Nintendo Power #51, August 1993 - Top 20 games for the month.
I miss the era of magazines and Nintendo Power was my favorite of them all. I love seeing this stuff.
In 2015, Nintendo collaborated with a number of restaurants in Japan to offer a variety of Mario-themed dishes for a limited time for the Super Mario Bros. 30th Anniversary celebration. One of them was this “Piranha Plant Soda” using a strawberry decorated like a Piranha Plant, exclusive to the Tower Records café in Shibuya, Tokyo.

Charles Martinet Steps Down as Voice of Super Mario
We have reached the end of an era. Charles Martinet, the voice of Super Mario in games going back to Super Mario 64, is stepping down from the job.
Martinet is not leaving Super Mario behind, however. He will continue to “travel the world sharing the joy of Mario” (whatever that means).
Nintendo of America on X:
As stated above, there will be a special video message from Shigeru Miyamoto and Charles Martinet in the future.
I am sad about this news though change is not always a bad thing. Super Mario, like many animated characters before him, is something of an immortal. The voice actor may change but Super Mario will still be Super Mario.
I see a lot of responses to this news from people who grew up with Martinet as the voice of Super Mario. That’s not the story with me, though. Super Mario had no voice when I first discovered him but did shortly after when Lou Albano voiced him for The Super Mario Bros Super Show. Martinet was not the voice of my childhood but when I think of the character it is Martinet’s voice I hear in my head.
Thanks to Charles Martinet for so many years of joy as the voice of the greatest video game character of all time.

NES games. Are they still good? I think I might've answered that question over the course of this stream, but I've also found myself taking on the dark task of ranking every NES game released in the United States. Oops.
I also drank a spicy mango drink in this stream and somehow lived to tell the tale.

This keyboard from 8BitDo looks awfully familiar. 🤔

Great game that has seemingly been lost somewhat in time.
I’d love to see this release on Switch, either as an NSO release or a remaster.
Famicom 40 Year Anniversary
I missed this when it happened but I don’t think there was much fanfare about it.
Nintendo released the Famicom in Japan July 15, 1983, effectively rebooting the video game industry. We have come a long way in forty years and yet the love for this console (NES elsewhere in the world) is still going strong.
The western release of the Famicom, the iconic Nintendo Entertainment System, did not see a release until late 1985 with a larger rollout in 1986. I bet we will see a celebration for the NES in 2025.
Happy Anniversary, Famicom!
