@noabop
the sun had set on the era of all might.
In my class we have a worm day. If they promise to be gentle and not tug, they can hold one of those beautiful squiggly caretakers of dirt. The wonder they have for it is so real - and I say, did you know they have 5 hearts and love you with all of them. Then I say, “are you holding a boy worm or a girl worm” and they guess. They are all right, and they are all wrong, because worms are both. And I say that. I say, “they are just like people; sometimes not a boy or a girl but something in between, or sometimes they’re both on different days. And they still love you with all 5 hearts.” “Cool,” says one kid. “I don’t want to be a boy, I want to be a girl sometimes.” And I say okay. Children are taught fear. They are taught that the worms are gross. It isn’t until they’re a few years older than my class - up in 3rd or 4th grade - that they start shrieking at my little worm friends. They won’t play the silly games or sing the silly songs or even promise not to tug. A fourth grader hears my lesson about gender and says, “That’s so weird,” and suddenly I hear from the mouths of these beautiful children, “Yeah,” “this is weird,” “No, mine is a girl.” It is not the 4th grader I blame. It is the person in her life that saw something beautiful and ruined it for her. It is the “put that down, it’s gross,” “you don’t want to get dirty” “there’s us and there’s them.” I want to show her - without the humble little blind noses of worms, we are nothing. We need them. Did you know if they grow a belt they’re over a year old! Spent tunnelling through the secrets of roots. I want to show her: it’s okay if tomorrow you feel like a boy or maybe something neither, something different that is entirely you. But fear, once discovered, is not an easy stain to get out. We say, “What will we tell the children” and forget - the children already heard. They heard you snickering about the person down the street. They saw you talking to your friend about “those people”. And they internalize it, burrow it into them. We don’t tell the children, we model hatred until the children can’t hear you, can’t hear you declare, “do as I say, not as I do.” Later the 4th grader goes home. “Ugh,” her mother says with a shudder, seeing my box, “I hate worms.”

hypothesis: academia is a pyramid scheme
evidence: major in classics -> realize the only way to do classics after university is to continue to be involved with the uni -> become a lecturer/prof/PhD candidate/TA -> recruit new students -> profit?
sometimes im like…..what is the point of all this ??? and then i hang out with the people i love, and for a brief moment, i see
Morally it wouldn’t be wrong to kill pharmaceutical company executives
But also our elected officials have the ability to regulate this. The entire debate about drug costs neglects to discuss how it’s incredibly fix-able. They just won’t do it.
9/11 has been funny for a long time. the vast difference between the government telling you that you should cry about a couple thousand americans dying for 20 years as if it’s the biggest tragedy in human history and as if they actually care about human life and then proceeding to show a sociopathic disregard for human life at best and insatiable bloodthirst at worst cannot be squared away.
9/11 isn’t about human beings dying. the reason why the government shoves it in our face every single year and tells us to care is because of what they want it to represent, which is an attack on “america”, and they want to use that to justify wholesale slaughter of innocents overseas and perpetual imperial empire. 9/11 is a quasi-fascist myth about national trauma.
and now we live in a pandemic, where the same number of people who died on 9/11 die every single day because of the negligence and greed of the very same government who tells us to cry about it, and there is no reconciliation. no attempt made to explain this. there is an active movement to downplay it or to redirect blame to china, once again fueling our imperial ambitions.
so it is safe to say now that 9/11 is a fucking farce. I don’t even know how they’re going to be able to sell that narrative anymore because they’ve completely shown their ass. you officially have permission from the government to never ever have to give a shit about 9/11 ever again. enjoy.
Self Care Tips From Tumblr: When you feel like everyone hates you, sleep. When you feel like you hate everyone, eat. When you feel like you hate yourself, shower. Someone out there feels better because you exist.

“Run into a cave and break your ankle so that people have to come find you and they see you lying at the bottom of this beautiful cave and maybe there’s a waterfall and the light from the crystals makes you look really beautiful and they say “Are you okay?” and you say “I think so” and they say “oh my God have you been here alone this whole time with a broken ankle” and you say “it’s okay” and they say “you’re so brave” and you are brave and you look so beautiful surrounded by cave crystals and everyone stands over you and says “oh wow” and “you poor beautiful thing” and “I’m so sorry we let you run into the cave but I’m so glad we found you” and let them carry you home and promise to be your best friends forever and that everything’s their fault and also they named the cave after you and you’re prettier than all of your enemies and your enemies all died of jealousy while you were in the cave.”

The reason why any bisexual book from the last 50 years that you pick up will inevitably at some point rile against sexual and gender binaries is because binaries hurt bisexuals. Bisexuality is inherently liminal and one of the reasons why bisexual erasure is so prevalent is because its mere existence threatens a society based on heteronormativity and the gender binary.
A lot of these bisexual books also talk about the natural alliance between bisexuality and trans identities (including non-binary ones) because they both occupy the same liminal space and undermine the same binary frameworks.
To accuse bisexuality of being binary because of its prefix is to display a complete ignorance not only of bisexual history but of the nature of bisexuality itself. How and why would bisexuality reinforce binaries when binaries are the main reason bisexuality is so oppressed and invisible?
