Despite the profound establishment he made for himself in Rome, there are times he felt emptiness. A loneliness that he cannot shake. With many a letter coming from both Rebekah and Hope, he wondered if his role in the family still remain the same. Nevertheless, he would often set off back to the States, back to Mystic Falls, and watch in silence over his little niece; the one person that he could see both Niklaus and Hayley at the same time.

She folded her arms over her chest as she pressed her lips together while standing there looking at him. Her right leg was bent forward at the knee as she licked her lower lip gently. She would burn things down if she was pushed enough and he was pushing her buttons which made her angry. She tilted her head looking at him…”Yeah we are always busy”…she mumbled turning and looking around from one side to the other watching people moving around the room preparing to make sure everything was good for people getting ready to come in. She let her hands come to rest at her sides before resting on the counter as she stood there staring at him with a deep frown on her face. She looked like she wanted to grab his head and smash it against the counter a few times just to my make it known she shouldn’t be undermined. She was very respectful of others without resorting to violence but he brought that side of her out. She let her head fall to the right as she sighed..”I was about to write it down before you waltzed in.”…she mumbled. Her eyes were barely opened..”Would it kill you to say please?”…she growled. She made a face as she moved carefully making various flavors of coffee, a cappuccino, a latte and a espresso as she had the cups out but didn’t set to pour everything keeping it hot as she made sure that everything was perfect so that he wouldn’t have any reason to complain because she wouldn’t want to hear it from him of all people. She was over his attitude and how he seemed to look down on her when she looked at him with plenty of respect. @noblestcg 

               it didn’t take long , although he was half hoping it would. no matter how much he dragged it out , the grocery list was still being ticked off at a remarkable pace. it wasn’t because he wanted to return early , to her. it was more because he had a little bit of time to himself ---- to reflect on the things of the past. he didn’t want to dwell on it for too long. after all , he only touched base with his two sisters twice a month , only so they wouldn’t come check on him when he would go eerily silent. it pained him every time his mind would dwell to the past , of the time he had failed as a brother. he checked in with his niece from time to time , though he did try his very best not to do it so often. in a way , he wasn’t certain whether or not she would resent him of the events that led up to her father’s death. 

               a heavy sigh emitted from his lips , hand wiping off the guilt that was slowly building up. he left new orleans behind for a reason. he started up a new life in rome for the same reason. despite running away from his past , it still caught up to him in ways that he was expecting it too. after all , his past really did catch up to him if the siphon witch standing behind his bar counter was anything to go by. for a short moment , he stood outside & watched her. despite the dark magic coursing through her veins , she hadn’t made an attempt to be stupid. would it be strange to bring up his niece ? after all , they did go to the same school & she wasn’t that little girl that helped out his family per their mother’s request. would it bother her ----would be more of a concerning question. he was already damned , why not continuing to be damned ? 

               the eldest of the originals finally walked in , after all of that time just looking at the younger witch with only two questions ping-ponging in his mind. silent as he was , he joined her behind the counter despite the customers were filling in after him. the bag of grocery was placed on the counter , in front of the girl. ❝ i will be tasting your creation before you would serve it to our customers. while i do that , please put these away without scaring the humans , could you , please ? ❞ & without missing a beat , he took one sip of the coffee laid out perfectly for him before moving to another. with a blank expression , one by one , he poured the rest of the content down the drain. that was also when a customer stepped up with an order. ❝ here. ❞ the order , written neatly on a small piece of paper , was handed over. ❝ before i change my mind. ❞

Josie looked at him with her arms folded over her chest as she stood there looking a mixture of amused and not amused at the same time. She didn’t like being underestimated because of what she was and she didn’t like being compared to people, it just made her mad. She was her own person and trying to make it known that she wasn’t someone else. She leaned her head with a frown on her face waiting for him to talk since he thought it was so funny where as she just wanted to do something other then deal with making coffee and dealing with people who thought they could talk down to her. Her chest was rising and falling slowly, calmly even as she waited for him to speak.

“You do realize that I have bar-tended before coming here.”..she did and learned a lot at the places she did work at but also spent most of her time in her place teaching herself how to make various drinks just to pass time when she was bored which was quite often. She looked at him quietly and looked at the coffee cup..“So I have to learn how to deal with uppity snots who want their soy latte with no foam?”…she pressed her lips together as her teeth were audibly grinding..“Fine you have a deal.”…she muttered, it wasn’t like she had a choice to agree since she wasn’t in the mood to go look for another job. She was more then capable of doing the night shift but she had to follow rules, something she didn’t like doing.

               it wasn’t the fact that he wanted to win ---- or to annoy the younger witch. the fact remained ; that he wanted to see her patience. he could feel the darkness inside her. the kind that he had felt before with his niece under the influence of black magic. however , it didn’t look as though the young witch wanted to burn his rome down. while he didn’t know why she would come to rome , he knew he was the best choice to keep her at bay. death meant nothing to him , when he could never die. ❝ we will be busy today. ❞ he commented , moving pass the point where she had reluctantly agreed to his terms. he also dismissed her own merit of obtaining bar-tending skills. she’d do what he’d ask , even if it meant the both of them to fall into disagreements.

               he turned his back on her , dark irises quickly scanning the coffee machine & the inventory. she may have had noted down the stuff that needed to be refilled , though he wanted to double check for his own sanity. after all , it had only been him maintaining this establishment. to have another share the management with him , it was as if he had let another one in. he didn’t want to do that again. ❝ you’ve missed a couple of things. ❞ he stated , hand moving over to the list he had placed down to pick it up , quickly grabbing a pen as he went. ❝ fresh whole beans coffee & serviettes. i will go pick these items up. as for you , i want you to start making me coffee so i know where you are at with your barista skill. ❞ & he was gone , without waiting for her to respond to him. after all , he’d mostly take an hour just so he could be strolling on the street of rome. well , he could ask her to come along , though he’d feel it’d be inappropriate when they were getting along ----a little.

𝐒𝐔𝐌𝐌𝐄𝐑.     lanterns lit around a campfire.   seeing the sunrise like it’s the first time again and again.   melting ice cream.   the warmth of sun rays upon skin.   fireworks.   the feeling of never wanting something to end.   beach days.   the lone blow up floaty left in the pool.   drifting with the warm nights breeze and nothing else.   music blasting at 3am.   loud and proud.   palms trees on sunset boulevard.   longer days and shorter nights.   wanderlust.   nights spent staring at the stars. sand castles.  road trips.   blood orange sunsets.   leaving the laundry to hang outside.   flowers in bloom.   sneaking out of your room late at night.   pure contentment.   barefoot in the sand.   the street lights coming on.   the sound of the ocean in a seashell.   freshly squeezed lemonade.   loose clothing.   a cannonball into the pool.  sunflowers.   the hazy pink before dusk.   relaxation.

She carefully takes his face into her hands. Oh, Elijah. She loved this vampire, more than she had loved anyone else. As a teenager, the thought of first love sprung to mind, it was always Finn who popped into her head then. But Finn never made her heart race the way Elijah did. Sam never touched her as gently as Elijah did. Tyler never made her heart skip a beat. And Puck… He would have been the last one on her mind. Her teenage lovers and held no candle to the man who stuffed his hands inside his dress trousers and called her his beloved. “You could never disappoint me.” She let her hands fall from his face and run over his chest gently. “You saying that honestly makes me feel better for some reason. I never had someone put me first you know? In truth, I’m happy that you do.” She pressed her mouth to his jawline before stepping away. “I don’t have much news to tell you, I’ve kept busy with teaching the kids magic. Trying to adhere to Alaric’s standards. No combat spells, such bullshit really.” She turned her back to him, moving her hair away from her neck as she ran her fingers threw the drying strands. “I’ve missed you, Rome… How was it?”

               instinctively , he leaned against the softer touch. it wasn’t much of a crave , as he had been alive for far too long to indulge himself in it. it was the love that radiated from a simple touch that he found himself lacking these past centuries. to have found it with her , truly a blessing , one that he didn’t want to lose. a flicker of a smile graced his lips at her admission. that even when he had chosen her first , she’d still love him regardless. or perhaps it was the manipulation that his younger siblings had gotten to his past lovers. the lies & the betrayals , all led him to believe that he should always choose them. now , they left him to his own devices & only inform him of what he’d need to hear. he wouldn’t so hurry himself back here if he didn’t know the dire need of his presence in mystic falls. ❝ rome is the same , other than a few screws loose that my workers couldn’t take care of in my absence. ❞ despite adorning a stoic look , the corner of his right eye still twitched irritably at the mention of his so-called workers. therefore , he made haste to change the subject , of where it piqued his interest. ❝ without offensive spells , how are the young witches learn to defend themselves ? ❞

 Josie was usually easy to interact with whether she be the dark version of herself or the light happy version of herself. She tilted her head slightly not looking amused at what he said..“If I was going to run away, you wouldn’t know.”…she mumbled with a slight smirk knowing he was probably teasing her. She licked her dark painted lip while standing there with her hands on her hips when she had felt him take the papers from her. Her eyes were focused on his watching him like she would many others as she was always on alert in case she needed to defend herself. She didn’t really mind running around to pick things up, it kept her busy and her mind off of the home she had left behind. She was constantly being called by her father or mother but she never answered them as they would just try to pull her back in with false hope and false promises.

She felt her lips twitch as she had been asking him for weeks to teach her something new but it would never happen so she had stopped asking. Her hands which were still on her hips moved to rest on the bar top..“You know I’m not for acting like a Upper Class Version of a Starbucks Snob.”…she murmured with a smirk. She would of much rather dealt with the night crowd serving alcohol and dealing with people that were actually fun. She loved Rome and all that it had to offer, no one knew who she was and the things she had done, the things she could do. Her eyes were twinkling as she looked genuinely happy which was something not many people rarely saw of her since she was a walking time bomb loaded with dark magic and dark thoughts to go with it.

               He couldn’t help but let out a full blown smirk. The eldest of the original knew exactly what the girl wanted. It certainly wasn’t what he was about to put her up in. He wasn’t one to be soft around teenagers , much least witches unless he’d need something from them. He didn’t need anything from her , which would make this quite entertaining. He understood that she was one of the siphon witches from the Gemini Coven. He also knew how strong she was , though compare to his niece ----not as much. With a few spells that she learned here & there , the girl wouldn’t be able to defeat him. & even if she could kill him , he’d come back & resume this waltz once more. He turned , shifting his back so that it was now leaning against the edge of the counter behind him. This would make quite an intriguing conversation.

                     ❝ that i understand --HOWEVER , fake ids you can easily obtain , to fool others of your actual age. it would help me & certainly you. yet , it is not as easy. you see , ❞ he took a small pause , analysing her before continuing on with the smirk still adorned his features. ❝ to be able to serve a more intoxicated beverage , you’d need to learn from the ground up. you need to serve. ❞ An arm extending , reaching & grabbing a hold of a coffee cup before he gracefully presented it before the girl. ❝ the demands during the day might not be as high as the evening. you’d need to be able to master the day shift , before i could even let you be on night shift handling my expensive drinks. do we have a deal ? ❞

      Quinn’s lips curled up into a soft smile. Oh, to hear him call her his beloved again. It felt as though she could never get enough of that. As he kissed her forehead, she pressed her fingers against his suit. She knew what he spoke of, his mother. She was alive and searching for ways to hurt her sons. A petty thing to hurt those you gave life to. Quinn shook her head before she spoke, “No, magically speaking I have not been harmed. I’ve done what I can to keep myself safe. Wards on the doors, charms with my daughter should she ever visit me, and kept mostly out of sight unless I need to go to the store. Have you seen your family since your return or did you come to me first?” It endeared her to him, even though she knew that he would do either or, she wanted him to see his family as well. Family. That was the most important thing to her. He knew that.

                hesitantly , he let go off of her & taken a small step back. in response to what she had questioned , his head bop low as him to hide his shame. he should’ve had checking in with his family. as long as he heard the news about the mother witch , he couldn’t help but rush to her side. family above all ----it didn’t seem too important to him at that point. he spent aeon with his family , it didn’t matter if he was to be away from them for a little more time. a few days , at the least. just so he could check in with his beloved. ❝ sadly to say ... i haven’t. ❞ he confessed , hands digging at the inside of his trousers’ pockets. ❝ you’re the most important to me & i cannot bear to see you hurt , even if rebekah had confirmed that you were fine over the phone. i had to see it for myself. ❞ a pause , though short before he continued with his head still bowed. ❝ i am sorry if i have disappointed you. ❞
