Currently watching: nothing in particular (as in, like, something I’m watching in full) but I have been rewatching the “Comprehensive Roast of Total Drama” videos by switch1e

Current obsession: the Rockafire explosion. They’re an animatronic band of animals from the 80s and I love them. Dook is obviously my favorite but I love everyone else too. I’m currently making about 2 or so fics with them (and theyre both beachdook. Or beok. Or like whatever their ship name is the fandom hasn’t fully decided). They don’t have an official comic or series, but they have lots of showtapes to listen to, and in the case of the cyberstar ones, watch. I love the rockafire so much, and I hope I can go to Billy Bob’s wonderland or the Volo Museum to see them one day. Also they have connections to chuck e cheese. This guy Sully on youtube has many a video on both the RAE and CEC if anyone’s curious!

Currently reading: does AO3 count? I’m not sure if it does but I’m gonna put it anyway. I haven’t found any RAE stuff thats rlly long and finished, but I do know that the ppl writing those fics are gonna update in the future to fingers crossed! I should probably pick up an actual book at some point but, uh, for now I’m reading AO3

Currently working on: a beach bear/dook fic, like I said earlier. It’s a human au where Beach Bear is a hockey player, and Dook is an ice skater along with Mitzi (they’re skating partners). I’m on the third chapter currently but my plan is to get 5 chapters done, edit them and all that, and then post them one week after another while working on chapters too. I’ve become very particular about my fics and how I write them, and hopefully I ease up on myself.

I’m genuinely so confused rn so with Sofia the Forst Royal Magic I watched all 8 episodes that are on Disney+ but now I’m listening to the soundtrack and there are songs I didn’t hear and I’m seeing ppl talk about Eden Espinosa’s character and a duet between Rapunzel and Elena and I’m like when did that happen are there more episodes available elsewhere is it stuff from promo??? Oh god time to rant about my main gripe about stfrm: the songs

Okay for some reason the show decided to abandon the usual broadway-esque direction of their songs to for a more modern pop style and I'm not a very big fan of it 💔

STF'S usual style in lyricism is simple yet tells so much about the events in an episode and the characters' stories and motivations. I say simple cuz they don't rly use too much flowery words and metaphors, and instead going for a more straightfoward style in it's lyrics which pairs well with the classical/Broadway style of the instrumental music

Here's my main issue with the pop style of stfrm's songs. I'm not saying that the instrumentals alone sounds bad they sound pretty decent on their own BUTTT when it pairs with the straightforward, storytelling style of lyrics, the songs just end up sounding rly corny in a rly bad way 😭 they just don't fit well together AT ALL.

It's also like. Really jarring to hear the characters singing a song with a modern pop beat when the story is set in a fantasy world with magic and no modern technology ykwim?

Stfrm's songs are mid at best I TRIED SO HARD TO LIKE THEM BELIEVE ME but I just. Don't 💔 bring back the old song composers please 🥀🥀

P.S. Elena's song that was recently released in Spotify is single handedly the worst song in the series by far it was so bad it made me write this whole rant post 😭 holy crap oh my girl Elena you deserve so much better 💔💔

FINALLY SOMEONE SAYS IT I’ve only heard people talk about how much they love it which like you can have an opinion but I just don’t like it. And it’s not cuz I’m no longer the target age group I just have issues with everything from music to animation to writing

I really dislike Pepper the Puppercorn so far. I really wanted to like him. Because I knew he was going to get hate for being the cute character that's there to sell toys. So I tried to have an open mind about him, but so far in the episodes I have seen, he has been nothing but a selfish, annoying jerk.

In real life puppies do behave similarly, but we can forgive them because they don't know that they're doing anything wrong. But in Disney land, animals are more sapient and aware than in real life. Sofia's ability to speak to them makes that abundantly clear. So Pepper is a lot more aware of his actions than real dogs.

A part that really annoyed me was when Sofia asked him nicely if she and her friends could get past, and Pepper was just like, "No! Play!" And I understand he was probably told to keep the students from getting past, but they were meant to get past with magic, Sofia used magic to speak to him, so he should have let her pass. Then they still allow Pepper to accompany him, and he continues to cause problems by tearing up their map. Even his one moment of redemption, his peptalk to Sofia was all about him. "You got past me, so you can do anything."

And he ends up being chosen as their castle pet. I knew this was going to happen since I'd seen the meet Pepper short before this, but it felt entirely unearned. Sofia was the only one he'd interacted with, and not even that positively, and none of the other kids had a chance to get to know him. They just agreed right away despite having no way of knowing what the unicorn was like, after having wanted the unicorn for so long.

The other episodes he appears in aren't much better. Pepper continues going on about how cute he is and making a nuisance of himself. I really hope he improves in later episodes.

I can’t help but compare him to Clover in the sense that Clover in the early days did annoying/selfish stuff but he learned from it. He wasn’t just a cute side character who caused chaos, he was a character the kids in the audience could learn from. Meanwhile Pepper is just the annoying side character meant to create problems and sell toys. I hope in future episodes he gets some development, but right now I’m not too hopeful. There’s a reason the episodes without Pepper in them I enjoyed much more than the ones where he was present.

headcanon that both Kai and Wyldfyre are terrified of getting sick.

Kai because when he and Nya were little, if either of them got sick they could barely afford to pay for medicine, and it both of them were near-death sick at some point, so Kai grew to fear germs/sickness in general.

Wyldfyre because she grew up fearing quick-spreading diseases like the Wasting Sickness that took so many Dragons from her tribe

headcanon that, despite her best efforts to convince herself she didn’t need/even like them that much, Wyldfyre felt extremely lonely when Arin and Sora both left the team at the end of Season 3 part 1. Even though she currently had Frak (I believe??? I need to rewatch DR), she felt closest to Arin and Sora in a way that made her uncomfortable.

I think that despite not wanting to, Wyldfyre and Frak quickly became close in that short amount of time where they were the only young ninja training at the Monastery. I like to think there’s always a short period of time before the next season (or part) starts, so let’s say there was like, a few weeks to a month before the start of Season 3 part 2.

During this time, Wyldfyre and Frak became like brother and sister. They trained together, ate together, I even headcanon that they both need another person in the room to sleep soundly, so they slept back to back in a pile of pillows and blankets they made for that period of time.

I just cannot believe in good consciousness that they DIDN’T become close while they were the only young ninja in training. (And also their dads are gay for each other so y’know)
