Emos & scene kids got this close to abolishing gender for real. I try not to think about it too much.
The idea of a popular teenage subculture where girl & boys pretty much all dress the same feels impossible now but for a while it was reality and it was beautiful.
Gift comm for @khaotiklly of their wonderful fic <3
YOU. GET MORE ANTI-SLAVERY NOW.
Californians voted not to abolish slavery in 2024 because itās ānot economically feasibleā
But also beyond that and prison abolition, unofficial (and in some cases official) slavery still exists both in the US and globally. Iāve met multiple Black people, myself included, who have been āfunctionallyā enslaved to specific individual whites even if there wasnāt a legal contract making us their property. In my case, she not only raped me, beat me in public and private, otherwise abused me, controlled my finances so I couldnāt escape fiscally, but also literally hunted me down when I tried to escape her on foot with nothing but my clothes and would use threats of police violence to coerce me into sex and other shit with her.
Itās not just prisons. Itās not just human trafficking. Itās not just capitalism. Itās not *just* colonialism/imperialism/white supremacy. Itās all interconnected and built off the backs of systems that enable slavery and genocide NOW and people simply wonāt care unless it makes them sad or affects someone they know personally.
people who are shocked that slavery is still common and widely supported also seem to have a very narrow idea of what being pro-slavery means. it isnāt just āslavery is good we should bring it back!!!ā although that sentiment is also WAY too common.
being pro-slavery is also when:
- people believe criminals do not ādeserveā to be paid for their labor or do not ādeserveā to be paid ENOUGH
- when multiple of my teachers throughout my education since i was very young taught that slavery was a ānecessary evilā because it was integral to the southern economy (in a school in a reliably blue state in the late 2010s! i am twenty and they were still teaching that shit)
- when people say we shouldnāt criticize sweatshops because then the employees will lose their jobs
- āthe civil war was about statesā rightsā
- white people getting angry that some black people mistrust, fear, or hate them because āit was so long ago!!!ā (no it wasnāt. my dad was born before black people could vote [they could vote on paper but voting restrictions practically banned black people from voting in many places]. once again i am twenty. even after slavery was abolished many people were not freed. people who experienced or remembered slavery in the united states did not die that long ago)
- glorifying historical figures that enslaved people
- elementary school (in a northern state circa like 2012-2016! !! my southern friends experienced much worse pro-slavery propaganda!) being taught that some people were nice to their slaves :) !!! (translation: āsome people didnāt torture the people they kidnapped and trafficked as badly as other people did!ā) i remember being told specifically that george washington enslaved people but it was okay because in his will he said to free them after he died
- calling the abuse of sally hemings (starting at FOURTEEN!) at the hands of third president of the united states, thomas jefferson, an āaffairā or āforbidden romanceā. in 8th grade (which i think was 2018) i went on a school trip to washington dc. on that trip we toured thomas jeffersonās house. somewhere along the tour we watched a short film glorifying the rape of a 14-year-old. literally the age of the 8th graders on the tour
- northerners refusing to take accountability for slavery and trying to pin it all on southerners as if most northerners were not willing to let slavery continue indefinitely because they didnāt want to cause trouble. the north abolished slavery faster because it was less useful to us. thatās the only reason. lincoln didnāt want to abolish slavery at the beginning of the civil war. when he did it, it was NOT because he loved black people
the same people who donāt understand how anyone justified it at the time wouldāve been the people who did not care. people in my community donāt want to acknowledge slavery because they feel guilty. thinking about what happened makes them uncomfortable. it isnāt their problem
found a bunch of erotica books to add to the gay scifi database today and realized there seems to be a significant spike in those starting in 1969. which confused me for a minute but then i remembered: moon landing
1969 is such a funny year to look at in the database. its like. gay erotica. gay erotica. gay erotica. timeless classic the left hand of darkness by ursula k. le guin. lesbian separatist novel. gay erotica
happy moon landing anniversary everybody
Letās tow the line of right and wrong together
will the owner of the goalpost out in the bailey please move it down the slippery slope towards the middle ground where a strawman is currently begging the question. we have a bandwagon waiting to help you, unless youre too much of an uneducated dipshit to handle any of that, in which case we can circle back to a true scotsman who will be able to appeal to our authority.
Remember when joining fandom as a younger person meant lurking for a bit and figuring out the vibe and etiquette instead of coming in on day one and calling people weirdos for liking weirdo shit in the weirdo factory.
everybody say i love you black trans women
Apparently some people still need to hear this so: using an 'ai checker' is still using ai. If you are feeding someone's fic to one of these checkers, you will still not be sure their fic is ai because they are not 100% accurate, but you can be 100% sure that you are using ai. For fic. Furthermore you are doing the work of an ai scraper for them. You are, personally, feeding the machine. There is no actual excuse for using an ai checker on fanfic as a hobby. YOU are the problem.
If you think a fic is ai, mute it and move on. That's it. That's all you do.
I miss when ads were a single click and then theyāre gone. Now every ad has a minimum of three phases where you watch a video, exit the still frame of fake gameplay, and then exit the app download. That doesnāt even touch on the ones that forcibly take you to another app after opening a tab in safari without you ever touching the screen.
I hate advertising. I hate that you canāt do anything without companies jumping down your throat with mostly bullshit ads. I hate that billboards exist. I hate that every company unanimously decided to make their ads longer and longer. I hate that ad blockers try to charge you money and there are in app purchases to remove ads. I hate that my attention has become commodified. I hate that thereās nothing I can do about it.
Edit: the title for this comic is āPuzzle Ratā this oneās a few days late due to having a lot of doctors appointments sorry itās Ā just 9 pages, and about some rats⦠itās more symbolic than anything really

generally speaking, the cooler and better your offline political activities are, the more important it becomes that you do not post about it on your personal social media acconts
as much as everyone loves "the power of love won't save us, we need the power of incredible violence" i'm sorry to rain on your parade but we've actually tried that about ten million times as a species, and you'll be shocked to hear the power of incredible violence, without the power of love behind it, is just brutality. the power of incredible violence has been ruling (various parts of, and then the entire) world for the past 5,000 years. ours is not that damn special.
like yes use that gun you found but WHY are you using it? on who are you using it? what would make you stop using it? is your goal to live in a world where every problem is solved by violence, or is your goal to do the violence necessary to live in a world where that necessity is unthinkable?
drew a comic of a scene from chapter 5 of drag path !! I love this fic š
