Fairy rings in moss, Iceland

How many years, decades, or centuries have the growth & die-off cycles of the moss re-created these particular circles, recycling and redepositing nutrients in the shape of itself? How much or how little has its configuration drifted over time? I watched the cracks in the road in front of my house be filled, ground-down, paved-over, and re-create themselves repeatedly for over twenty yesrs. They were, a lot of them, recognizably the same cracks. The faults creep deeper in the earth than the tires will ever know.
