My notes are full of tags from diaspora folks talking about how they gave up learning their heritage language after being shamed for their accents by their own parents or other relatives. The same thing happened to me, and I know how awful it feels
For parents who live in a country where the dominant language is different from your native language: I would like you to please keep in mind that shaming your child for their accent doesn't always look like overtly making fun of them. Sometimes it look like telling them not to speak in public at all when visiting the motherland in order to not get charged tourist prices (This one happened to me, and now that I'm an adult, I've realized just how fucking insane it was. Like what do you mean my mother told me to not speak Spanish in public in Mexico just because she didn't want to pay an extra fucking dollar???????)
I've also seen a couple of tags mentioning phonemes, so I want to add something that should've been fucking obvious but apparently not: Children often cannot pronounce many of the phonemes that adults can. For example in English, children often cannot pronounce their L's and R's, often substituting them with W's. (Or Y's in the case of L) instead. Making fun of your child for not being able to correctly certain phonemes is loser behavior. And even if your child is at an age where they should be able to pronounce said phonemes correctly, they still won't know how if nobody ever fucking taught them!
Analyzing the politics of a work that's meant to be apolitical is actually a really interesting exercise because it asks you to critically examine what the creator considers to be "political" in the first place. Which ideas are just How Things Are, and which ones are Political, and how is that influenced by the creator's beliefs?
Angrily lashing out at the suggestion that it's possible to do basic media analysis was foundational to the ragebait ecosystem of the 2010s, from which we got basically the entire culture of modern far right politics, btw.
I went outside and got an education, that's where I learned that you can obtain knowledge and insight through analytical methods, then noticed that some people who sit on the internet yelling at strangers get really mad about that constantly.
So actually if you really wanted to use your analysis skills you'd realize that what people are annoyed about is the implication that there's never a story or creative work they can create that can escape people like you attempting to assign political meaning to it when they just don't want that. That in fact people's presumptions about life are not, in fact, political (at best they are cultural, which is not an inherently facet of politics). And that by you people arrogantly pushing this idea you are intruding on the fact that a lot of people use fiction as escapism from politics and insisting that "urm no actually your favourite cartoon actually has politics cause no human being is 100% unbiased" is in fact, supremely fucking annoying

Just watched Adam Conover (of Adam Ruins Everything) make such a solid point that I think we should spread far and wide. Yes, having AI write your emails is lazy, sure, but people love being lazy. We need to really emphasize that sending AI emails (or using AI responses on social media, or publishing AI flyers, or or or) is rude.
It's rude. You're making someone take their time to read something you couldn't bother to write. You're telling them they were so unimportant you couldn't be bothered to actually take the time to say something yourself. And frankly, you're lying about it while you're at it.
Look I don't really care for AI. I'm scared about the increasing over-reliance on tools like chatgpt and Ai assist that repeatedly give flawed or false information, I reject the promise of AI writers and actors that might infect mainstream art. But like...y'all need to change the way you look at this stuff for real. So much popular anti-AI language is so abstracted from any material reality and human truth, making up slurs for Ai bots like that's a normal thing to do, wantonly accusing artists of using Ai like a witch hunt, and talking about the human element of art supplanted by AI in very Christian terms, calling it "sacred" or coming from the soul. You don't have to like AI, but I really encourage you to examine how you feel about it and what it's been making you say. Cause it's apparently making you say ethnic slurs
