Noelle Duval ↴
Surprisingly, she didn’t flinch at the sudden presence of her brother. Her body sagged in on itself from the sheer exhaustion she felt. She didn’t—couldn’t—look him in the eye as she eased back against the cushions of the couch once more. Losing control wasn’t something she did. It showed a lack of discipline and strength. Two things she needed quite a bit of at the moment. “Merci,” Remington muttered, taking the offered cup of coffee. The heat of the cup was grounding and help suppress the shiver that threatened to run through her body. Fighting the urge to close her eyes again, the witch stared out one of the thankfully undamaged windows.
She needed rest, that most was apparent as his eyes looked her over and flickers of paper still swung around in the air. A few droplets of sweat pooled around her temple and he assumed she must have had a dream again, but wasn’t about to pressure her with questions. The two hadn’t talked much about that night since it happened, not really wanting to put her through those memories over and over. Instead, he decided that he would just keep talking despite her silence. “They might even let us buy the books out. Apparently Dad had them on the phone and managed to strike a deal to add them to either the Duval or Tallis library. Guess it took all this for them to even know they were out there,” the elder witch took a sip of his own hot drink and looking out at all the work Remi had been doing, “Oh, what’s this? Find a clue?”
