Light speed communications has been a part of humanity since the early days of the Second Sphere. But even at light speed, messages could take years to arrive between the disparate aspects of humanity. This problem was Solved with the advent of Skip technology.
Invented by a man named Dariel Long, Skip technology is - in layman's terms - devices that can use quantum mechanics to cause two parts of the universe to temporarily occupy the same space. This allows for almost anything to be sent any distance instantaneously, however there are some caveats. All skip transfers need both a sender and a receiver. These can vary from as small as the one at a neighborhood postal office, to ones large enough to send entire vehicles, and all the way to the massive skip gates in orbit around major population centers. Additionally, there are frequent complications involved when organics are sent by skip technology.
There are 4 levels of sender and receiver. Domestic ones are used for small packages, and are sometimes found in the houses of the rich and powerful. Community ones are those that most people would find themselves familiar with, as they are frequently located in communities to receive intergalactic deliveries. From there, Industrial ones are the second largest. These can be the size of entire warehouses, sending and receiving things on the scale of large businesses and manufacturing. The largest are Skip-Gates, which are used for travel by every level of humanity.
Dariel Long created the first senders and receivers within his home on the planet of Aurum. He tested these basically at first, sending materials from one side of his planet to the other. When he was ready, he used lightspeed communications to transfer the plans for senders and receivers to other scientific minds around the galaxy. This was at the tail end of the Third Sphere, so humanity only had a few dozen worlds. The success of these tests lead to a powerful new unity of humanity. Over the first hundred years of the Fourth Sphere, Dariel Long and his partners around the galaxy worked to refine and improve the technology from its infancy.
It was in these days that the flaw in skip technology was discovered - sending a biocomputer or any other organic matter using it would cause total cell death. This obstacle proved almost insurmountable for quite some time. After a period of testing, the solution was discovered by an engineer in a system known as Varah, named Kamalani Southgate. She found that both copper and graphene had a shielding effect on the organics - while it did not solve the problem, it delayed the reaction. After much experimentation, Kamalani was able to create a unique mesh of interlaced copper nanofibers and graphene. This mesh seemed to protect organic matter from the stresses of the Skip Technology. This solution is used all the way to today, and any spaceship or shipment has Kamalani’s Cuprophene mesh.
Once the problem of cell death had been solved, the galaxy’s minds came together and developed Skip Gates - orbital shipyards that could transport a space shuttle across the galaxy to any other Skip Gate. Dariel Long sadly died with this as his final gift in Skiptech, but his invention had united humanity into a single whole. And despite the unity of the Fourth Sphere failing, the technology still makes up the backbone of intergalactic trade.
Once the fourth sphere came to a close, Generation arcs were brought back into service. Rather than hosting settlers, this time, the arcs were loaded with automatic drones, which would deploy and construct a skip-gate in the target system. Using this method, humanity expanded from mere dozens to nearly two hundred worlds. This massive increase in settlers helped many worlds dealing with overpopulation, and while it still took decades for the near-light generation arcs to deploy their gates, the failures were a fraction of those experienced during the second sphere.
Scientist kept working on Skip technology, but it was always necessary for a receiver to exist. It was theoretically possible to use the technology without a receiver, but this proved far too risky to use. The complicated mathematics required to set the destination was simply too much for biocomputers to solve. They would frequently burn out, and the deliveries would arrive off target, sometimes dangerously so.
The development of quantum computers solved this problem and began the sixth sphere. A quantum computer was able to do the calculations with enough accuracy to send objects into areas of space. In major hub systems, these new quantum Skip-gates were erected in major galactic hubs, and new systems would be selected. The process would take a human and place them in a ship capable of near light speed, with all the equipment necessary to erect a skip gate. These brave men and women would then be sent to their target system. This trip was one way, they would have to travel close enough to a planetary system for the skip gate to draw power to return. The risk was high, and despite humanity expanding to near thousands of new worlds, as many as half the men and women who took this risk never returned. Those who did and returned were considered pioneers and heroes.
These quantum computers have been developed alongside skip technology, and now on the bleeding edge of science, ships exist that can send themselves anywhere in the galaxy. Few of these exist, and those that do are worth as much as entire systems.
Skip technology has proven to be entirely unique to humans. While we live alongside other intelligent races hailing from other systems, these aliens had no similar technology until joining humanity. As we expand further, and find more species of intelligent aliens, we may find another who has developed as humans have.
A minor but important use of skip technology is using its greatest flaw as a strength. The cell death caused is seen in sterile environments for the cleaning of tools and equipment. Hospitals and food production use this flaw to ensure any and all pathogens and contaminants are sterilized before they can risk the general public.
------------------------------------------
So here is Skip Technology, coupled with a Heroforge Mini of Dariel, the creator of Skiptech. This tech is kind of the backbone my whole setting is built on - the universe would not exist without it. In-universe, Dariel might be the most important and influential human who ever lived.
So I've decided to write an original Sci-fi setting for the random things i make that aren't for Specific Games. It's currently unnamed, but here's the first oultines : the evolution of humanity. It's related to my last post of Aria Lanier - she is the first character of this setting. Retroactively, The planet of Arkese and the Quillhound from a much earlier post will also fall into this.
In this present day, The ages of humanity are named by the so called “Spheres of expansion.” The spheres are bookmarked by technological leaps - interplanetary craft, generational craft, interstellar craft, terraforming, and most recently the skip gates that allow us to travel between our systems.
The first of these, which happened thousands of years ago, was restricted to the birth home of our people - The planet Terra. Humanity in this age was living in what we called Nations. Sphere zero, the original age of expansion, was simply humans moving to other continents on their homeworld. They settled lands in ships made simply of woods, resins and cloth materials. These ships carried small groups of people, only hundreds at a time. They went on journeys considered at the time to be perilous, and settled in lands far away. In these times, communication was restricted to a level we cannot conceive of - People in one nation could not simply call or message those of another, instead, hand delivered items were sailed across the seas to their destinations.
The First Sphere of expansion was the colonizing of other planetary bodies within Terra’s home system, which we now call Sol. Biodome colonies were established on the planet of Mars, while others found themselves on what we knew of as the Moons of Saturn and Jupiter. Biodome colonies were on the Moons of Europa,Tethys, Io and Titan. As time progressed, humanity moved from Nation focused societies to planetary ones. This also led to whats known now as the first planetary wars. When water began to disappear on Terra, they began to demand more from the other worlds within sol, and due to a breakdown in negotiations, the first combat spacecraft were deployed. These were shockingly simple compared to those we know today, but it was a hallmark event that brought the First Sphere to an end.
The first truly self supporting Generational spacecraft left Tethys, marking the beginning of the Second Sphere. Skip travel was not yet a concept being explored outside of the very fringes of science, and it was widely considered that faster than light travel would forever be impossible - Generational craft were the solution to this quandary. The craft would launch with a sustainable population, and they would live in a state of permanent travel until they reach their destination, which could take multiple generations of people on the craft. The most notable of these crafts landed in the closest system to Sol - Proxima Centauri. Like with most generational craft, they quickly set about establishing biodomes and colonies, however Proxima Centauri had a unique feature that would go on to define humanities progress. An earth-like, livable atmosphere on a planet, but more than that - A planet with life. Centurion, as it came to be known, was a miracle for those on the generational ship. They sent messages back to Sol, of the Miracle planet with an ecosystem. They also set about colonising more planets in Proxima Centauri. However, the Biodomes proved to be too much of an obstacle. Resentment brewed within those living in the biodomes and those they saw as living on humanity’s birthright paradise. The resultant Centauri wars ended with a loss of life unseen in history, even in the darkest days of the first sphere - a superweapon wiped out Centurion as well as multiple biodome settlements. The last, crippled settlement on a moon had sent word of the war back to Sol. This ended the Second sphere.
It took many years, but Sol had set about developing the most important technologies for the expansions. Terraforming - the backbone of the Third sphere. Using test planets of Venus and Mercury as a test bed (which had not yet descended into the corona of the star,) they developed the ability to build ecosystems. The technologies where sent to the same paths of those generational ships before, and many of the Second sphere received the technology and set about creating earth like environments to live in. DNA synthesis, 3d printed elements, and other technologies we take for granted today allowed those old generational ships to turn their home systems into livable planets. Even today, some of the unique eccentric flora and fauna developed by the scientists of these years are still around. The Third sphere had another important feature, as it marks the first expansion where no war was had - with the abilities granted by terraforming, trade between planets became less necessary, as resource shortages could be solved by terraformer technology.
A genius by the name of Dariel Long in the system known as Hauhet discovered Skip technology - in layman’s terms, he discovered a way to fold two pieces of space together, temporarily making them occupy the same space. This development was rapidly sent out to other systems, and the Fourth Sphere began. Skip technology at the time needed both a sender and receiver, and they allowed for humanity to finally reunite. Over time, the various disparate systems of humanity were able to unite under skip technology. While the fourth sphere saw no new settlements, it reunited humanity as peoples. Once again, a sphere was marked by a notable lack of conflict.
Eventually, Dariel Long invented Skip gates, ushering in the Fifth Sphere. Humanity was able to launch skip gates on generational ships, having them automatically unfold and begin operation once reaching their destination. Once deployed, those gates allowed settlers to jump into those systems and begin terraforming and settling immediately. However, conflict arose again - small scale battles for systems began, eventually erupting into the Inter-systems war. This war lead to massive jumps in technology and warfare, and this caused the unity of the Fourth Sphere to break down. Humanity once again began to separate themselves according to their homes, be it systems or planets.
The Sixth Sphere began with a breakthrough that meant Skip-gates no longer needed a target. We were able to set a skip gate’s target using complex maths on quantum computers, and send ships to explore those systems. Once a skip has been done, a new gate could be assembled at the destination, allowing travel without for others. This was an age of explorers, and those who would be willing to use their ships to discover new systems to settle became the most important of society. The families of those explorers are still able to call upon vast power their status allows, despite being several generations removed.
This brings us to today - since the invention of skip gates over a thousand years ago, we are at the next great development. The Seventh sphere has been marked by the invention of Skip ships. A space ship that carries it’s own Skip engine, allowing it to travel across the galaxy in moments, without the need for a gate. These ships are currently only reserved for those with generational riches. Exploration and smuggling is now a vital part of society, and we do not know what we will now find out in the furthest reaches of our galaxy, since all of creation is open to us.
My first character model for Alien Zoology! I made about 3 different Zoology teams in Heroforge to get as STLs. And here is the expedition leader for the first team, Aria Lanier.
----------------------------------
Aria Lanier comes from old money - her grandfather made his fortune as a incredibly renowned Skip-gate scout during the Sixth Sphere of Expansion. He traveled deployed skip gates in nearly 150 systems by the time he retired in his old age. He left his fortune to his granddaughter Aria, who he always claimed that she was the only family member who had his spirit.
Now, in Aria's Middle age, the Seventh Sphere of Expansion has begun - and she has spent a large degree of her fortune on one of the bleeding edge Skip-ships, the first ships that do not require a skip gate to travel, and has set about making her own fortune by finding new alien species to fill the menageries of those people in the galaxy richer than herself.
For herself, she has laid claim to a planet in one of the currently-fringe systems. She has dedicated it to being a menagerie planet - something vastly superior to the simple continents owned by her clients.
She has filled her crew with those family members she trusts - her youngest grandchild and assistant, her son - a ranger with a love for animals, and her brother, an old world hunter.
Aria Lanier has no interest in finding new worlds like her grandfather did - like her son, she finds the myriad of alien species and animals on those rare, earth-like planets, to be endlessly fascinating, and has dedicated this second half on her life to finding as many as she can.

If you read this, and the Quillhound post, i encourage you to take a look at Alien Zoology.
Alien Zoology is a game about hunting Alien creatures you make by toybashing, and is available here.
Alien Zoology (english Open Beta) - ALIEN ZOOLOGY is here!
I'm super happy to announce that the english Open Beta of my 28mm indie (mainly)
Paracelsus was found by the Pilgrimage at a crossroads, standing near a destroyed carriage and the bodies of a crusader, highwayman, and a holy woman. She seemed to be the only survivor of an attack by a group of heretics.
She explained that they had been traveling, and something had gone wrong - they found themselves off course after passing through a thick fog bank, and were accosted by the heretics. She opted to join in as a medic with the Pilgrimage. She is largely atheist, and almost seems disdainful towards the pilgrimage. But she has opted to stay with them as she "has nothing better to do."
Despite her abrasive personality she is highly regarded in the Pilgrimage. Her skill as a medic and Physician is unmatched, and she has taken to making tinctures and "potions" as she calls them, which have proved incredibly vital, particularly when the Pilgrimage comes across those of The Black Grail.
Paracelsus seems fascinated by the European front. She seems especially interested by the legions of hell, and any daemonic beings. The Prophet of Joan has allowed her the unprecedented privilege of dissecting enemies of the legions of heaven, to better understand and defeat them.
for now, Paracelsus is traveling with the Pilgrimage of Saint Joan - The last survivor of her original party. Perhaps she will stay, or perhaps she will move on.
Witchburner general Victor has been at war for a very long time. His orders holy vestments reduced to rags and scrap adorning his frame. Those of the Pilgrimage of Saint Joan don't know how long he has been on the front lines, but he's joined them and leads them in battle now.
His noble, dignified office remains, however. He refuses to speak of his past, but with his knowledge of battle and unflappable nature in battle, his experience is obvious. He leads from the front, though he walks the battle slow and steady, facing threats as they come. His staff of office is long gone, along with many of his vestments, replaced by a heretics trench club with an integrated shock-prod.
The only thing on his person that hasn't seen decades of war is the golden mask he wears - Those of importance in Saint Joan's pilgrimages wear helmets that mimic the faces of the saints. Victor was granted one for his assistance, and still wears it to this day.
The only thing that Victor truly speaks of is that he will replace vestments when his duty is done. He was granted them when he started the war, and he will bear new vestments when the last heretic on the European front falls to his club.
Hachi and Margrete have become fast brother and sister in arms, two people from disparate parts of the world who stand united in their pilgrimage.
Hachi comes from the east. Nobody truly knows how he made it past the hellscape between his homeland and the European front. Regardless of how, Hachi now fights with the Pilgrimage of Saint Joan towards New Antioch in the middle east, traveling back in the direction of his homeland through the fires of war. When he first arrived in Europe, he had little knowledge of the war and the religion of the Pilgrimage. After much time with the pastors, Hachi was a convert and joined up with the pilgrimage. He follows a code he has called "Bushido," an unfamiliar word to those in the pilgrimage, yet his personality, fervent zeal and firm honour have led him to become a somewhat popular member of the pilgrimage.
Margrete hails from France, and met the pilgrimage there. As they moved through the country, Margrete joined up with the intention of becoming a stigmatic sister. She was found wanting, and not allowed to join the Stigmatic Sisterhood of d'Arc. During the next battle, she took the weapon and shield off a dead man and raced into the fight herself. It was in this battle she met and became fast friends with Hachi. Few can stand to the pair of them with their shields and trench guns, and Margrete's pious nature is seen as second only to the Sisterhood of d'Arc, and the fury she fights with on the battlefield is second only to the Witchburners.
I've been away a while, but regular posts should be happening soon.
And so begins my Trench crusade!
The McMillan Brothers
Arden and Maxwell McMillian come from the farmlands in the midlands of England, far away from the frontlines in New Antioch. They joined the Pilgrimage of Saint Joan, in an effort to atone for their sins.
Arden, the older brother of the two, was known in the small community as a incessant liar. Nothing he said could be trusted. He was always looking for the words to gain something on the others.
The younger Maxwell was quick, alert and stealthy. He never stole much, but oftentimes he would steal something from the general store or a pie from the neighbors window sill. While he never set out to cause harm, or stole anything of high value, he was eventually caught.
Maxwell was taken to the preacher, who told him of the war in Europe. New Antioch and the legions of hell. Many knew of the war, but with how far they were it seldom touched their lives. The preacher informed them of The Pilgrimage of Saint Joan, and Maxwell convinced Arden to join the pilgrimage as his repentance.
Arden's status as a liar has led to him taking a vow of silence, which he shows by gagging himself before battle. Not even Maxwell has heard him speak since they crossed the boundary of their home.
Maxwell, for his part, has taken a scouting role. As the pilgrimage moves through the war soaked lands, he stays in front, using his talents to look out for ambushes.
Perhaps once they reach New Antioch, their self-penitence will be done.
Once a little boy went to school.
One morning
The teacher said:
“Today we are going to make a picture.”
“Good!” thought the little boy.
He liked to make all kinds;
Lions and tigers,
Chickens and cows,
Trains and boats;
And he took out his box of crayons
And began to draw.
But the teacher said, “Wait!”
“It is not time to begin!”
And she waited until everyone looked ready.
“Now,” said the teacher,
“We are going to make flowers.”
“Good!” thought the little boy,
He liked to make beautiful ones
With his pink and orange and blue crayons.
But the teacher said “Wait!”
“And I will show you how.”
And it was red, with a green stem.
“There,” said the teacher,
“Now you may begin.”
The little boy looked at his teacher’s flower
Then he looked at his own flower.
He liked his flower better than the teacher’s
But he did not say this.
He just turned his paper over,
And made a flower like the teacher’s.
It was red, with a green stem.
On another day
The teacher said:
“Today we are going to make something with clay.”
“Good!” thought the little boy;
He liked clay.
He could make all kinds of things with clay:
Snakes and snowmen,
Elephants and mice,
Cars and trucks
And he began to pull and pinch
His ball of clay.
But the teacher said, “Wait!”
“It is not time to begin!”
And she waited until everyone looked ready.
“Now,” said the teacher,
“We are going to make a dish.”
“Good!” thought the little boy,
He liked to make dishes.
And he began to make some
That were all shapes and sizes.
But the teacher said “Wait!”
“And I will show you how.”
And she showed everyone how to make
One deep dish.
“There,” said the teacher,
“Now you may begin.”
The little boy looked at the teacher’s dish;
Then he looked at his own.
He liked his better than the teacher’s
But he did not say this.
He just rolled his clay into a big ball again
And made a dish like the teacher’s.
It was a deep dish.
And pretty soon
The little boy learned to wait,
And to watch
And to make things just like the teacher.
And pretty soon
He didn’t make things of his own anymore.
Then it happened
That the little boy and his family
Moved to another house,
In another city,
And the little boy
Had to go to another school.
The teacher said:
“Today we are going to make a picture.”
“Good!” thought the little boy.
And he waited for the teacher
To tell what to do.
But the teacher didn’t say anything.
She just walked around the room.
When she came to the little boy
She asked, “Don’t you want to make a picture?”
“Yes,” said the little boy.
“What are we going to make?”
“I don’t know until you make it,” said the teacher.
“How shall I make it?” asked the little boy.
“Why, anyway you like,” said the teacher.
“And any color?” asked the little boy.
“Any color,” said the teacher.
And he began to make a red flower with a green stem.
When I was young, around 10-11, I was a pretty prolific creative writer. I would write poetry and so much more. all the time.
I also had an English teacher. She somehow had beef with me. I don't know why, I was a fucking 10 year old. She humiliated me in front of my class and bullies for my attempts at creative writing and my English in general. So. I was 10 years old. And because of how much she gave me grief about my creative writing, I stopped. I will never forget her name.
I remember one prompt, I had interpreted as a Black And White style hand of a god moving a person from one house to another, better house. And she had issue with that because apparently it was meant to be about a bird or some such thing. A hand taking a bird out of a cage. Or at least, that's what she told people. I admit my memory is fuzzy. Still, little 10 year old Noir was pretty proud of that story. She thought it was wrong.
I failed English every year until i hit 18. All because one woman decided a 10 year old wasnt writing their stories properly. I had gone through about 5 therapists, a creative writing teacher. A lot of work was put into making me able to be a writer. None of it worked.
When I was 17, I decided i didn't want to focus on science, and wanted to look at English and English Literature as my high level subjects. The English teacher at that school was strict, and she personally vetted every single student who tried to enroll. I don't know what she saw in me, but she took me on. I bombed HARD. I did so poorly in her classes i'm shocked she even saw anything in me. She set me up with a tutor, and I did a little better. Then she decided to tutor me herself. I went to private lessons under her, and now, well, i am a changed person. I wasnt her star student by any means, but my English marks were the best on my report that final year. And now i pen little bits of things, all the lore on my page, and stuff like that. All thanks to a woman who took a chance on a broken student. and I will never forget her name.
What that is to say. Make a difference. You always can. Just give the hand out to those who need it. you never know how much you can heal someone, just by giving them a hand up.
So I've decided to start doing a game called "Alien Zoology" which is a single player open-beta tabletop game that i heartily recommend.
The basic premise is hunting alien creatures to breed and keep in your zoo. You can find it here:
https://www.wargamevault.com/product/482988
This is my first alien. A little guy called a Quillhound. Expect some of my expedition team and maybe more aliens over time.
----------
Reminiscent of a particularly large earth Mongoose, the Quillhound is an interesting predator. They're far from the largest predators on the Arkesien plains, and are in fact prey to certain other, larger predators. They're lithe and flexible, adapted to chase their prey into burrows and drag them out like hunting hounds - giving them their name. The quills on their back are used as a defens. They plug the ends of a burrow with the quills, discouraging other predators from following them in and getting their meal. They show something of a canny intelligence, And have developed a defensive strategy of pulling their own quills out with their flexible necks and spitting them at their target. The leading theory is that this adaption is why the quills start so far down their long torsos. The strategy is far from effective, the quills cant effectively harm their target, but it proves enough of a deterrent that most predators think twice when hit in the face with the projectile.
------------
So I have a minor love of Speculative Evolution, and while i'm hardly good at it, i tried to think about how this creature would exist.
I'm still relatively new to painting overall, so forgive the sloppiness. I think this is the first model i've painted in 2 years, and there was a 6 or so year gap between that model and the one before. So i will get there with some practice.
As with my other Inquisition models so far - Stane is rather old, and built by me and painted by a friend
---------
Stane began his youth as a ganger in the Apis Alvius underhive. While working for the gang, he posed as a PDF officer and snuck into the upper hive. In a twist of fate, he ended up being drafted into the Apis 15th guardsman regiment.
Stane was quite successful in the regiment - never quite making the command company, but he was well respected overall. He had taken the drafting as an opportunity to turn his life around.
He never quite lost his old habits - during one campaign, he found himself receiving Amasec rations for the officers and comissars. He snuck out a bottle for himself. It would have gone fine, except for one of the men he shared the stole alcohol with confessed. The commander wanted death for Stane, but he fled during the night, escaping offworld on a farmer's delivery.
Back in the underhive, he was given an advance in rank in his gang and took on trainer duties for the new Juvies. During an operation, the gang found an archeodome, and broke in while the Officials around the dome were performing their shift change. Stane was the only member who found anything - a silk lined box containing a pair of ancient bolt pistols. He knew how to use them, thanks to his training.
Their leader had other ideas - Stane was forced to sell the pistols to a black market trader, making the gang rich but making him extremely angry. Stane broke into the trader, stole the Pistols back, and fled.
News of the sale and break in spread rapidly in the underhive - it wasnt every day paired archeotech was sold and then went missing. Borislav, one of Orion's acolytes, went hunting for these pistols during the Inquisitor's operations on Apis Alvius. Borislav eventually found Stane, and over some alcohol, convinced the now old ganger to join up with Orion's inquisition.
Stane welcomed the change - seeing it as a chance of reliving his glory days in the guard. He is skilled at the nature of orks in particular, and often is near on hand to Orion during operations against them.
Stane still carries his two pistols with him at all times - Even sleeping with them in his bunk. For some reason, he has become obsessed with them, going as far as to name them "Herald" and "Crier."
I have to say, Stane is probably one of my favourite characters in Orion's Pride. He was the first i really made for the crew and i really enjoy the ups and downs i wrote for him. I hope everyone enjoys him too

I got some Votann Yaegirs, and in my mind i wanted them with Dome helmets. They don't quite fit and are slightly off center at best, but i think i like this look. Kind of Starcraft inspired, in a good way. Hopefully once painted i can fill in the gaps and minor issues for a more cohesive look. If you have any thoughts, feel free to share them!
I can not stop spamming how much I think this guy has been allowed to be misrepresented and maligned over the years. For me, he is the Warhammer 40.000:
Carter was built by me, but his Sabertooth Leopard is an old Heroclix. Both were painted by the same friend who painted Orion. Carter is going to simply be a deathworld veteran. His beastie, i'm not sure.
------------
Carter is a Catachan veteran who grew up taking a great interest in the beasts and monsters of his homeworld. He spent many years trying to understand and tame the monsters. He holds a deep reverence to animals and wild beasts.
For most of his life, he had the moniker of "The Beastmaster" for his tendency to have a small crew of tamed local beasts following him into battle. On a hive world during one of his deployments, Carter adopted a large hound, and the hound went with him everywhere from then on. During a night on guard duty, the hound helped itself to some officers rations, and the commissar executed it. In a fury, Carter went AWOL and abandoned his regiment, becoming a mercenary who would travel with anyone, as long as they paid and left his pets alone.
Carter found his niche in capturing and taming animals for various menageries belonging to Rogue Traders and planetary governers. Some jobs were simple, hunting down problematic beasts on agri-worlds, or other jobs were procuring some rare animal for a menagerie.
Carter has a deep love for animals and beasts, and as such never takes kindly to a beast with bionics - the only time he is willing to tolerate it is if the bionic is essential for the animals survival. He would rather the beast survive on it's own merits.
He earned the name "The Dragon Lord" whilst working as a mercenary for a Rogue Trader against a group of Eldar Exodites. Their coterie had captured one of the fierce lizards that the Eldar had used as mounts, and over the weeks of the campaign, Carter was able to bring the massive lizard to heel. Carter personally rode it into battle against the Eldar in the final battles of the campaign, and left the monstrous lizard with the Trader on his departure.
Most recently, Carter has fallen in with an Inquisitor named Orion, and has agreed to follow him. He has his sights set on Taming one of the massive Ice "Bears" that inhabit one of the icy moons of Tsardoma, Orion's home system.
With the release of the Imperial Agents codex, i figured it was time to post my old Inquisition team from the old fan game Inquisimunda. Here's hoping the have a new life with the new codex! I'll be posting them over the next couple days.
------------
Orion was built and converted by me, but painted by a friend who i sadly no longer am in contact with - I'll put a similar disclaimer on models I own but did not paint.
------------
Orion is a young, puritan Inquisitor of the Ordo Xenos, specializing in the Tau. Born on an Agri World in the Ultima sector, he made a name for himself as a guardsman, and managed to work his way up into the regimental command squad of the Tzardoma 9th regiment.
During a joint operation with Inquisitor Sigrid, she selected him personally to join her retinue, and after serving with her for a few decades, she promoted him to be an interrogator. Eventually, once Sigrid was granted the name of Lord Inquisitor, he was elevated to an inquisitor himself.
He a master when it comes to the Tau, and while they are not considered the greatest of threats to the Imperium, he prides himself on his libraries of knowledge on the various races that the Tau have allied themselves with.
As an Inquisitor, Orion takes a very personal, respectful stance towards his agents. He is known to join them for their dinners, or share bottles of his Amasec with them. Spending their time exchanging stories of their battles and lives before he recruited them.
He disregards the Schola Progenium largely - as much as they produce fine recruits for an inquisitorial group, He finds true veterancy to be prefered. His recruits stretch from noble born men like a pair of brothers known as The Twins, to underhive gangers who lived lives of crime and violence, such as the disgraced Stane.

So that's Orion. To be honest, I may remake his model. I'm not happy with how he's clearly a space marine (rather than a human in power armour.) I am already considering converting up an older, more radical Inquisitor Orion. Particularly aiming to have him be less space-marine-y.
