me explaining why giant room-sized supercomputers are hot: it’s like, the power of having such an advanced brain combined with the vulnerability of having your innards and controls on display and accessible to the trusted people who are allowed to work with you. plus the inherent pathos of being so large and complex but unable to move.
my job interviewer: okay, that’s all fascinating, but do you have any programming experience?
Boston moment
Obi and kimono by Gofukuyasan
met a guy from saudi arabia last night at a bar, he came here with his sister so she could have surgery. he told me “i love your country for healing my sister. there are many wonderful things here, but there’s one thing you do not have. mercy” and then he asked if that was a boston thing or an overall american quality
The [CONNECTED] Marketeers
some people think writers are so eloquent and good with words, but the reality is that we can sit there with our fingers on the keyboard going, “what’s the word for non-sunlight lighting? Like, fake lighting?” and for ten minutes, all our brain will supply is “unofficial”, and we know that’s not the right word, but it’s the only word we can come up with…until finally it’s like our face got smashed into a brick wall and we remember the word we want is “artificial”.
I couldn't remember the word "doorknob" ten minutes ago.
ok but the onelook thesaurus will save your life, i literally could not live without this website
y’all want some cool, muslim-made, modest fashion ideas for your hijabi characters?
absolutely nobody asked but here, have them anyway (all via the Islamic Fashion Institute):
oberon is everything. he’s your emo boyfriend. he’s your fairytale prince. he’s your damsel in distress. he’s your manic pixie dream boy. he’s your older cousin who teaches you how to pick locks with the knife he gave you for your birthday. he’s your heist partner. he’s your poor little meow meow. he’s your anon hater. he’s the international man of sex. he’s unfuckable. he’s whatever gender you personally want to project on him. he’s your co-star in your upcoming standup comedy routine. he’s the simple farmboy who offers you a swig of his whiskey that you drink a little too slowly as if it weren’t the wiskey you’re trying to savor. he’s fresh snow. he’s a rotting corpse. he’s a weakling who can’t protect anything. he’s a conceptual abyss that destroys everything in existence. he’s your ultimate and final enemy. he is your friend.
Life seems mostly about being bombarded with disturbing or intense experiences in such a way that it forces you to constantly improve or re-invent the self. Not too pleased to report this, I like being comfy and safe. It seems like a key component of dealing with this effectively is making bad art
(teleports to 13th century europe) Nobody on their phones. What a beautiful sight :) (peasant beside me cherishes his last gasp of amazement at my clean ass jordans as he dies of common fever)
