Why are job interviews psychological warfare

Like genuinely what is the intention behind asking someone what their biggest weakness is. No one is actually gonna be honest in that situation so it’s like a weird game to see if they can give a clever answer

esp as an autistic person job interviews are a fucking nightmare

they ask you a bunch of really obscure questions that they don't actually want an honest answer to. they want you to lie and pretend to be enthusiastic about the company and really passionate about stocking shelves for minimum wage

the interviewer probably doesn't want to work there. the interviewee probably doesn't want to work there. but "i need to pay my rent" is not a valid answer to why you want the job. so the whole interview is two people pretending their life's dream is to work at mc donalds and get treated like shit. it's just a stupid pantomime where two people are both acting a certain way because the other person also expects them to be acting a certain way.

if the world made any fucking sense, job interviews would just be "do you have the relevent skills for this job? yes? cool, when can you start" instead of playing 20 questions with a million unspoken rules that nobody explains to you ever

Literally got asked two days ago, “why do you want to work in that department and not somewhere else?” I said, “I spoke to HR and they said that department is in need of workers and I am in need of work.” The interviewer, luckily, liked that answer.

Once had an I take day thi g at a school that wa sgoing really well. Then they sprang a surprise Interview at the end and were shocked that I suddenly 'fell apart' and layer told me that due to the autistic traits I then showed that I would be "unable to meet the changing needs of a child" despite having worked with children with special needs for years at the time....
