The moan of Lisa is so fucking small
I'm literally shaking as I write this
President Sebastiån Piñera just declared Chile at "state of emergency" over the riots that are taking place in Santiago.
This means that the police, military and special forces are no longer subject to our constitution's laws; they can legally violate our human rights without getting any punishment.
Guys, I'm scared. They're torturing people and a student is already missing. They're throwing tear gas grenades directly at people, shooting teens and college students, hitting and hurting anyone who happens to be on the streets. They apparently killed two college students already.
Please, please don't let this get swept under the rug.
Like how bout you mind your business okay
I can only hope that you hit a tree instead of a person.
as long as youâre on the road with me, putting my life in danger, it sure as hell IS my business. donât look at your fucking phone while your car is moving. youâre going to kill someone.
I did a report on actual studies of this for college. It is part of a category of behaviors referred to as âdistracted driving,â a category which includes driving while under the influence of alcohol or other drugs.
The reason drunk driving is bad is you have inhibited judgment and a depressed nerve response. If you are drunk driving, and thereâs something you need to avoid or react to, you are more likely to make bad reactive decisions, and make them much slower than a sober person would. (I do not recall offhand the name for the type of distraction this represents neurologically.)
Looking at your phone is something called a COGNITIVE distraction, which means your focus, in that moment, is entirely on a separate task, because contrary to popular belief, âmultitaskingâ is not a thing that actually exists neurologically. It is possible to switch between multiple tasks in such a way that you make progress towards both at nearly the same time, but within the same INSTANT, your brain CANNOT, by design, perform two cognitive tasks at the same time without greatly impairing your performance at both of them. Even talking on the phone while driving, keeping your eyes fully on the road at all times, is a cognitive distraction that makes it much harder for you to pay attention to your driving and to the people around you, and even people who claimed to be proficient multitaskers, when tested, proved to be highly prone to accidents while talking on the phone AND far less effective at responding to the conversations they were having, because it is not possible for the human brain to do both things at the same time. Talking on the phone while driving was found to be approximately as bad as drunk driving.
But it gets worse. Â
If you are traveling at highway speeds, and you look down at your phone for just six seconds, you will have traveled roughly the distance of an American football field while your eyes were completely away from the road.
This, obviously, is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS.
A person under the influence of alcohol will have a DELAYED reaction. A person whose eyes are not on the road because they are texting will have NO reaction. In the event of an accident, this means full speed collision head on with no actions taken to mitigate the damage.
What every study ever done on the subject showed, unambiguously and by a CLEAR margin, was that TEXTING WHILE DRIVING IS SIGNIFICANTLY MORE DANGEROUS TO YOURSELF AND OTHER MOTORISTS THAN DRUNK DRIVING. You are both more likely to be INVOLVED in an accident and less likely to REACT to it in time to save your life and the lives of other people on the road.
Drunk driving is punished HEAVILY by law, and rightly so, because it is a reckless endangerment of public safety.
If you text while driving or check facebook while driving or do anything else on your phone instead of keeping your eyes on the road, YOU ARE MORE DANGEROUS TO YOURSELF AND OTHER DRIVERS THAN A PERSON WHO IS SEVERELY DRUNK, YOU ARE A THREAT TO PUBLIC SAFETY AND YOU SHOULD BE STOPPED. Other people on the road have every right to hate you for it and to hope someday the law catches up on this issue.
If youâre driving on the same road as me, YOU TEXTING IS MY FUCKING BUSINESS, because you are putting MY LIFE in danger.
If you want to text while in transit, you shouldnât be in the driverâs seat.
Looking at this I get to the bit about moving at highway speeds and looking at your phone for six seconds means going a football field without seeing the road. And I think âPeople look away for that long?!?!?â But of course they do, this is the same species where someone put on the cruise control in their RV/camper and went in the back to make coffee.
Do people forget cars are thousands of pounds of metal? Your in control of a shit ton of metal in a public area, and you arenât paying attention to it
That's because we cant even use them to recoup. We've gotta use them to do laundry and dishes and grocery shop and get the house cleaned up and carve out some time for friends and family who we haven't seen all week long because we've been at work. We don't get to recover. We just have a never ending list of stuff that needs doing
other highlights from this account so far:
Letâs talk about Instagram âinfluencerâ culture.Â
My younger brother and his girlfriend are Instagram influencers. They arenât household names with a million fans apiece, but they each have a decent following. Theyâve been featured in various lists and roundups of people whose lives and relationships are #goals, and they both earn a steady income from Instagram. Not enough to make a full-time living, but enough to make pouring hundreds of hours into their Instagram careers worth their while.Â
Despite being so close to an Instagram influencer - several of the most popular photos on my brotherâs account were taken by me - I have some serious qualms about Instragram âinfluencerâ culture as a whole. I studied the impact of platforms like Instagram in graduate school - I have a masterâs degree in clinical psychology, and I spent part of my time in grad school working with a professor who studies the impact of social media on mental health. A recent study found that out of all social media platforms, Instagram is the worst for your mental health. Iâve also had the chance to see firsthand what a life lived on Instagram has meant for my brother, and the toll it continues to take on him.Â
So what makes Instagram influencer culture so toxic for both the people who create it and the people influenced by it? For starters: Itâs faker than you think. Instagram stars intentionally market themselves as âauthenticâ and ârealâ - you are led to believe that you are getting an unfiltered glimpse into someoneâs daily life as you follow along with their pictures and their daily stories. In reality, however, a huge amount of time, effort and money goes into the images you see. My brother and his girlfriend take hundreds of photos in order to get one or two shots worthy of posting. Outings are often little more than photoshoots; a âhikeâ is often just a short walk to a scenic location, followed by hours of photos. Ditto for ice skating, beach days and photos from music festivals. They donât get to enjoy many of the activities they are depicted doing with big smiles on Instagram, because the focus is on capturing the perfect photo. Photos are often planned weeks in advance, vacations are booked based on which locations will make the best backdrops, and the fancy food in their pictures often goes cold while they get the perfect shot. The fact that they want to create beautiful images is not an issue - after all, the pictures in many mainstream ads are stunning. The issue is that theyâre specifically pretending not to be models or advertisers; they are intentionally leading you to believe that what youâre seeing is candid daily life. Which leads me toâŠ
It presents unattainable ideals as everyday life. Instagram influencers roll out of bed in perfect and tastefully-decorated apartments, eat nutritious and visually stunning meals, and lead full, active lives of glamour and adventure. Their skin is never flawed, their hair never out of place, and their outfits never tacky. Again, this isnât a problem if you are creating an advertisement or a TV show - something that your viewers know is manufactured to look perfect - but Instagram stars hinge their success on pretending that that level of non-stop perfect is their average, daily life. In reality, my brotherâs girlfriend piles dirty laundry and books in her bathtub so that her bedroom looks âminimalistâ in her photos, and the two of them post weeks-old starry-eyed couple photos with gushy captions even when they are on the verge of breaking up. Influencers themselves tend to be young, attractive, white, thin, able-bodied, middle-class cis people - an ideal that is already unattainable for most people - and yet they present themselves as totally average people. When flaws and problems are revealed, itâs often in a very controlled way, and generally tied in with some kind of pithy advice or mantra. Which brings us toâŠ
It encourages people with no credentials to hand out âexpertâ advice. This is probably one of the most damaging aspects of influencer culture. 22-year-olds with absolutely no formal training in nutrition, mental health, medicine, dermatology or fitness are handing out âexpertâ wellness advice - or even designing diets, skincare routines, and workout regimens for others - and feeling increasingly comfortable doing it. Vulnerable people who may have very serious issues lap this advice up, regardless of how unsound or untested it may be; after all, these influencers appear to have perfect lives, and itâs easy to assume that they must know the secrets of health, happiness and clear skin. There are a couple of huge problems with this. For one, many people arenât actually aware of why they are successful - if a conventionally attractive cis white woman whose parents financially support her tells you that the secret to avoiding stress is meditation and mud masks, you should be skeptical of that advice. People in positions of relative privilege are often blind to the many advantages they have, and will attribute their success to their âwellness routinesâ or âpositive thinkingâ, rather than the social advantages that are not available to many of their followers. Also, influencers are often peddling advice that they themselves do not follow. My brotherâs girlfriend makes money by selling advice on how to make a full-time living while travelling the world, despite the fact that she isnât actually able to do that. Many influencers who promote extremely restrictive diets and health regimes have admitted that they themselves do not follow these diets. People who are feeling deeply insecure about their bodies, relationships, careers, lifestyles and productivity are turning to advice from people who arenât qualified to help. And why does every Instagram star suddenly seem to be offering themselves up as a âwellnessâ expert? Itâs becauseâŠ
It exists to sell you things, while pretending otherwise. As much as the influencer community presents itself as being all about âauthenticityâ, âexpressionâ, âempowermentâ, or âwellnessâ, at the end of the day, it is all about trying to sell you things, even if that means exploiting your deepest insecurities. A company that employs plus-sized models to represent their $90 leggings is still a company that, at the end of the day, is trying to sell you $90 leggings, and if they have to pay someone to convince you that these leggings are the only thing standing between you and finally loving your body and having the courage to chase your dreams, then thatâs exactly what they are going to do. It is an advertisement, dressed up as self-help and inspiration from an ordinary person who just wants you to succeed. If you find that you feel bad about yourself after a couple of minutes of scrolling through your instagram feed, thatâs the impact that the app is meant to have on you. People who are completely satisfied with themselves and their lives donât buy things they donât need - making you feel like your life should be better is the key to selling you a wide variety of products.Â
Does all this mean that Instagram is evil, or that influencers are bad people? Of course not. They are people trying to make money through self-expression, and many produce interesting and engaging content. Many of them are very young, and may not think about the impact that they might be having on their followers. I certainly donât think that any of them set out to deceive people. But it is important to think critically about the media we consume, the purpose of that media, and the message it carries. I have known many people, both personally and professionally, who find that they feel worse about themselves after spending an afternoon scrolling through social media, and I think itâs important for all of us to examine why that may be, and take steps to protect our own mental health.
I truly appreciate this post

Gender reveal parties, and big planned reveals, literally were not a thing ten, fifteen years ago. Donât let anyone pull that âitâs a tradition!â crap on you, youngsters. Theyâre LYING. People would either get the ultrasound or not to find out about the genitals, and tell people or not. That was that.
The fuss over ârevealingâ a babyâs gender in utero stinks of pushback against the shift toward a more nuanced understanding of gender. I mean yeah part of it is social media, and trends catching on, but donât think for a minute this isnât part of some regressive attitudes creeping into the mainstream with a cute (blue or pink) bow on it.
Even the woman who helped popularize gender reveal parties is likeâŠslow your roll, fam.
She only had a gender reveal party because it was her first pregnancy that made it to a gender pregnancy scan. All her others had been miscarriages. She was only celebrating a pregnancy milestone!
thatâŠ..is a super valid reason for a party.
Wow, i did not expect that to be the reason this all started. Im so happy for her.
how i sleep knowing i will pirate every single thing released on disney plus
how yâall gonna sleep after your computers are infected with a bazillion viruses and the feds gonâ bust your asses
how i sleep when I'm pirating disney with a vpn and anti-virus protection.
How I sleep after pirating everything from D+ while using an antivirus, VPN or proxy, and a cantenna to rip off the free wifi at Downtown Disney. If you canât get wifi directly from the house of mouse McDonaldâs will do.
How I sleep knowing Iâm pissing off all the Disney bootlickers by pirating:
Oh no! What a terrible thing to do, this information should't be spread by reblogging it, that's for sure.
Okay, I have to admit, using Disney's own wifi to pirate Disney Plus shows is a stroke of absolute GENIUS

âAw man I wish you could like go on ~platonic dates~ with friends and like sleep in the same bed as your friend and cudddle with your friends and have someone that you donât just hang out in groups with but like, have long deep conversations and share secretsâ
I donât know what the fuck happened to you guys younger than me in your formative years but literally everyyyything youâre describing is something that was included in the concept of âbest friendsâ as it was repeatedly presented to me as a child and teen.
SOmething happened along the way that got so many people thinking that âfriendâ is âanyone and everyone you repeatedly have âfriendlyâ contact withâ and thatâs NOT TRUE.
We need to seriously bring back the word âacquaintanceâ. You need to familiarize yourself with it.
Because all of you complaining about having friend groups full of people who talk shit about you or exclude you? You donât have friends, those are acquaintances.
Those âfriendsâ who donât actually know much about you and arenât that concerned about you? Acquaintances.
Those âfriendsâ you know who wouldnât go one on one with you shopping, to lunch, to the movies? Acquaintances.
You are acquainted. You know each other. You are friendly towards each other. But thatâs it. Youâre not friends.
Somewhere along the way the term âfriendâ became âanyone you know and talk to in a positive mannerâ and thatâs fine but in that case we ALSO need to re-legitimize the term best friend.
Because to a one, every post whining about âplatonic matesâ and pining for âplatonic datesâ is literally just someone wishing they had a best friend.
All of them.
I blame facebook.
Honestly youâre not wrong. This has so much to do with social media and that shit all started with MySpace & Facebook.

So I posted these two images that I made in a post together just shy of a year ago, and the post got 10,000+ notes. Today I saw a meme with a text convo of someone sending one of them to a military recruiter (which is extremely funny) and I thought âoh I should find that post againâ
but when I went to find it, it had completely vanished. not just the original post, but even reblogs of it. I couldnât even find screenshots anyone had taken of the original post. it wasnât brought to my attention as a reported post, tumblr never even contacted me about deleting it, it just⊠disappeared
really gets the noggin joggin
so thatâs the line huh tumblr. that old post just went too far and you had to poof it.
Reblog to remember the post before it gets deleted again

Do you know how many dogs Iâve met that get scared or anxious around men because in their previous home men hit them? A lot, and they are very protective of the women who have adopted them now.
Men who are violent towards women are often violent towards animals as well. They think weâre all chattel. If a man wants you to choose between your dog or cat or him, dump the guy. Those animals will love you for the rest of your life, loyal and true.
Actually, I have something to add.
The other day I saw a story where a woman was asking why her dogs had suddenly started growling at her boyfriend whenever he was in the same room as her son.
And my immediate thought was âthat boyfriend has hurt the kid somehow.â
Spoilers: that was exactly the case.
Trust ur dogs when they say something is off.
The first time my sister came to visit, via plane, after I got my dog, pupper growled at her and wouldnât go near her for the first day. Next visit was by car (two day drive)and pupper LOVED my sister. They snuggled and played and none of us could figure out why the change. We thought maybe the scent of my sisters cat had lingered on her clothes, making that first visit a rough one. Whereas when she came by car, the scent had had time to wear off. Well that was partially trueâŠ
Fast forward about six months when I went north to visit my family. My sister walked into my parentsâ house and pupper ran to greet my sister. Stopped dead in her tracks and started growling and barking. Hackles raised, full protection mode. My sisters husband had just walked in behind her.
My precious puppy wanted NOTHING to do with him. She barked, growled, ran away, and sat between him and my sister. Y'all my dog had spent maybe a weekend a half around my sister but protected her like this was her flesh and blood.
Eventually, my sister filed for divorce on grounds of âExtreme and repeated mental, emotional, and sexual abuse.â Divorce was final in less than a month because her claims were substantiated.
Trust the dog, honey. They KNOW.
Iâve never owned dogs, but I used to work with horses (which are a lot like big dogs).
There was this one horse I worked with named Tonto. He was a doll. He followed me like a puppy, snuck treats out of my pocket, he was the sweetest thing. We were practically inseparable.
A guy I was considering dating came to visit me one day, and Tonto wanted NOTHING to do with him. Normally well behaved, he shoved himself between us and would NOT let this guy near me. He was stomping, acting really aggressive, and tried to bite the guy. This horse was practically dragging me back toward the barn. At that moment, despite being like, 17, I knew something was up, and ultimately things didnât pan out for guy and me.
A year later I found out he had lied about his age (he said he was 18 but he was actually 27) he was arrested for sexually assaulting an 11 year old girl.

The reply with the mastiff gets me every single time. Iâm not a dog person but my god, they are Good Animals.
