Hiiiii look at me, writing something, and on time, I think. This is for @pedroscurls writing challenge! I surprised myself tbh and actually wrote over the minimum, which is what I originally figured I'd write. Thank you so much for setting this challenge up, it was nice to be able to write something short and simple 💕

You had been having a good day. The gods had smiled on you, it seemed, as your love had finally returned from his trip. You wandered through the market, searching for the perfect fruit to bring him at the palace. Once you had found what you were looking for, your pace quickened as you headed north. The guards at the gates recognized you, nodding slightly as you passed through. You made your way up to his rooms, trying and failing to hide a giddy grin as you approached the doors. As you pushed them open, you stilled as you heard a giggle coming from inside.
Frowning, you crept into the room quietly, peering around the corner towards the bed. What you saw made your blood run cold. Oberyn Martell was seated on the edge of the bed, a young woman in barely there clothing clinging to him. A rakish smile came over his face as he looked at her, hands coming to rest on her hips as she straddled him, pushing him down onto the bed. You watched in horror as she kissed him, but the horror turned to anger as you watched him reciprocate the kiss.
"What the fuck is going on?", you shouted, stepping fully into the space. Oberyn turned his head, looking at you with lust as he didn't move from his position. "There you are, my love. Come, join us.", he murmured, a smirk spreading across his face as he held out a hand to you. Shaking in rage, you flew forward, grabbing the woman's hair and yanking her off him. In the next moment, you had drawn your dagger and was pressing it against her throat. The woman screamed, hands coming up to clutch at your own as you pulled her head back, baring her neck further.
Oberyn rose in one smooth motion, surprise crossing his face briefly before his grin returned. "Come now, this is hardly the way to greet your Prince on his return, is it? She is a gift, for both of us to share.", he said, stalking closer. You backed away, pointing the dagger at him briefly before returning it to the woman's neck. "You….why would you think I want to share? When you left, you said you loved me. And now you want me to share you?", you cried out, yanking on the woman's hair, causing her to cry out again.
"What I said was true, my love. Come, put the dagger down and let us talk. All this anger and hate, it's not good for you.", Oberyn murmured, walking towards you, hands raised slightly. "Stay back, Oberyn. I swear to all the gods that I'll slit her throat right here.", you hissed, pushing your dagger harshly against the woman's throat. A bead of blood runs down her neck as she gasps, hands tightening on yours in her hair.
As he continued to step closer, you cut into her throat, a line of dark blood forming on her skin. Oberyn stopped, hands raised in a placating gesture. "Alright, why don't you tell me what it is you hope to gain from this little….standoff?", he sneered, pacing back and forth slowly. "I hope to gain nothing, if you love me you will dismiss this….whore immediately.", you returned, a tear running down your cheek. Oberyn shook his head slightly, rolling his eyes so quickly you almost missed it.
A rage overcame you at his obvious contempt in your actions. With a pained yell, you dug your dagger into the woman's throat and yanked, hard. Pushing her away from you, you watched in satisfaction as she crumpled to the floor, gurgling and choking on her own blood as it flowed freely from her throat. Oberyn stood, eyes widening briefly before regaining his passive expression. After a brief moment, the noises stopped; the woman stilled, eyes staring up at the ceiling as a crimson pool spread on the floor.
He chuckled, crossing his arms as he stared down at you. "Do you feel better, my love?", he asked, eyes narrowing slightly. "Actually, I don't. I think I need a bit more….retribution.", you murmured, stalking towards him with the dagger raised. Oberyn stumbled backwards, confused by your behavior. As he fell onto the bed, you straddled him and held the weapon to his throat. "If I can't have you, no one will.", you whispered. And then, you struck.
Im listening to a podcast ep about AI usage and the guest is saying he completely understands why people refuse to use it out of fear because he shares the same fears, and it's just so weird to me that it's never ever acknowledged that some people don't use it not because they're afraid but because it just holds no appeal. There are things I'm sure learning models are very useful for but none of them have anything to do with me. Yes I'm a bit of a ludite but I completely failed to resist the lure of the phone, or social media, I've never used chatgpt because I have just never wanted to. I feel like the entire debate is instantly reframed once you acknowledge that it's not a necessary service that people either work to resist or avoid out of fear. For most people it's just an online tool, and for me and I know for lots of others too it's just not that important.
It's not that interesting or useful to me, it's holds no appeal, I am resisting nothing. I could already do everything I wanted I don't need a new tool. It really is that simple and I would feel this way even if it wasn't worrying and evil in various ways. We HAVE to resist this narrative that AI is everywhere because people want it, because it's necessary, because it's an improvement, because people can't live without it. AI is everywhere because tech CEOs and investors want to make something from their massive investments. It is incredibly resistable to me. Just don't have an interest in it. This needs to be part of the AI conversation if we have any hope of saving ourselves from the data mining clutches of big tech (AI specifics aside)
