New handy easy-reference resources page
This blog now has a handy page that can be accessed from the sidebar at all times, with all the basic information you need to very strongly support your case for having a nonbinary gender/no gender and an inclusive title/no title in any records in the UK.
Hereās whatās on it so far, so itās easy to heart/reblog:
The Data Protection Act 1998 states that information kept about you by companies and organisations must be both accurate and relevant. That means a title that matches your gender, and a right to have no title recorded. [source]
The Equality Act 2010 states that someone who has or intends to transition (socially or medically) should be given the same rights and treatment as those who donāt. So you should be able to change your title as easily as a woman whoās just got married and wants to be Mrs. You also have a right to access appropriate facilities that are usually gendered. [source]
There is no law against using a gendered restroom that doesnāt match your gender identity or presentation. (Though the Equality Act 2010 says you must have access to appropriate facilities for your gender.) [There is no source, because there is no law!]
Titles are not legally binding, and there is no law that says your title must match your gender identity or presentation. (Though the Equality Act 2010 says that you have the same right to an appropriate title as binary people.) [Again, no source, because there is no law.]
The Information Commissionerās Office, who are responsible for ensuring that the Data Protection Act 1998 is followed, have said āwe would encourage data controllers to implement (or have plans to work towards) flexibility in their systems to accommodate gender neutral titles.ā [source]
The Financial Conduct Authority, the governing body that sets the regulations to which banks operating from within the UK must comply, does not require banks and building societies to collect information on customersā genders for security or any other purpose: āI can confirm that we do not require banks and other firms to include gender as part of the criteria for establishing proof of identity when opening an account.ā [source]
Early Day Motion 47 āurges the Government and HM Passport Office to make non-gender-specific X passports available to those UK passport holders who do not identify with a particular gender.ā It has been signed by 68 MPs at the time this page was last updated. [source]
At least 0.4% of the UK population are nonbinary. Thatās 256,000 people as of 2013 and climbing. [source for 0.4%] [source for total UK population]
