Incredibly excited to reveal my project for my first ever @steddiebbang

Slaying Dragons in the Dark is a hurt/comfort fix-it fic that follows Steve and Eddie as they hide away and heal in House Harrington after the events of Season 4. It's part fix-it fic, part "make these characters confront their trauma" fic, and I'm very excited to get to talk about it now!

Eddie Munson died. Heart stopped, bled crimson on the ashen ground of the Upside Down until he was ripped through the bony fingers of the Reaper, gasping for breath and writhing in pain. These new friends, new acquaintances, had adopted him as one of their own, and they refused to let him go gently into that good night. But when wounds get patched, and reunions occur, how do you move on when that same hell is still threatening to burst forth around you? When nightmares of teeth and tails and terror still haunt your sleep? When half of the town thinks you're Satan himself and most of them think you're dead? When the terror whose minions you died to and who your allies failed to kill is still lurking in the dark, growing stronger every day? When you are healing alongside a man that, quite literally, snatched you from death's clutches, dragged you out of hell, and made you the best damn cup of coffee you've ever had?

1986 may not be the year Eddie graduates, but it's sure as hell going to be the year he stops running, the year he grows, the year he survives. If not for himself, then for others. Because he has a whole new network of support, and they're hauling him kicking and screaming, hiding him away in the Harrington house as he heals from wounds both physical and mental. Maybe, in the middle of all this madness, he can find time to heal his heart, too. Or maybe, he just goes insane looking at the same handful of boring rooms every day with only Steve Harrington for regular company.

"You…you're all…you," Eddie starts, sad, wet eyes glancing up at him, head still drooped, "And I…I can't even sleep without being scared. How are you not scared?"

Steve stilled for a moment, brow furrowing in thought as he contemplated Eddie's question.

"I'm not scared," Steve started, Eddie huffing out a bitter laugh before Steve continued, "I'm fucking terrified."

At Steve's admission, Eddie lifted his eyes to meet Steve's, searching for an answer in his green-brown hazel eyes, "Every time, I think it's going to be over finally, and it keeps coming back. And at this point, I feel like Penhurst would have a field day with my brain."

Eddie grinned at his admission, lopsided where the gauze and tape limited movement, before it fell from his face, looking at Steve with such sadness, "Each time it's more of the same, but also each time it's different. It always builds and builds, and you'll have some weird fucking fears."

Eddie tilts his head in confusion, brows knitting together, "You aren't doing much to reassure me there, Harrington."

"You know the Byers can't put lights on their Christmas tree anymore?" Steve asked Eddie, who shook his head no before Steve continued, "Joyce…she used them to communicate with Will when he was in the Upside Down the first year, back in '83—had 'em all over her house. I saw it when Nancy and Jonathan set a trap for one of those monsters, kids call it a demogorgon. She had some ouiji board type shit on the wall with the alphabet, and strings of lights all along the ceilings."

Steve let out a shaky breath before continuing, "They…the lights flicker when those things are nearby. When Nancy pulled a gun on me to chase me off from the Byers' house…I was standing at my open car door, about to haul ass out of there. When I looked back…it was like a strobe light was going off. I could hear Nancy and Jonathan yelling, and some awful sound. I was fucking terrified. But I couldn't…knew I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I had just left them, you know?"

Eddie flinched at that, looking away, "Yeah, well, I did run, Harrington. After Chrissy…I fucking ran."

"The thing is…I did too," Steve rasped, voice dripping with disdain for himself, "Before Nancy could scare me off by pointing that gun at me, that thing…it dropped out of the ceiling and cornered us in Jonathan's bedroom. When it disappeared, Nancy yelled at me to leave again, telling me it was going to come back, and I fucking ran."

Steve looked up, eyes focused and piercing as he met Eddie's gaze, "Yeah, we both ran. But think about what you saw, what I saw? That's some horror movie bullshit that neither of us prepared for, that neither of us could do anything about. But after that, neither of us ran."

Eddie scoffed at that, drawing an annoyed glare from Steve, "No, you don't get to downplay yourself like that, Munson. You could have stayed in that boat when the vines dragged me through the portal, but you jumped in after us."

"Yeah, cause I was too scared to stay there alone," Eddie spat, voice filled with self-loathing.

"And when you went through the gate? Saw those bats eating me alive. You didn't run. You fought them off, alongside Robin and Nancy, with a fucking oar. And you saw what they did to me, how terrifying that place was. And when we planned to go right back in there to fight the thing that killed Chrissy, Fred, and Patrick? You were the second one through that portal."

Steve looked to Eddie, who was staring a hole through a spot on the comforter, chewing the nail on his thumb. Steve leaned into his vision, hand going to Eddie's shoulder to push him back gently, forcing him to make eye contact.

"You saved Dustin, man," Steve asserted, admiration and appreciation clear in his voice. "He told me what happened, how the bats came through the vents. They would have poured through that portal, gotten both of you. It would have blocked the rest of us from getting out. So yeah, I guess if you're being technical, you ran then. But not because of fear, but purpose."

Struck by a rogue Tommie/Steddie/Stommy AU

Eddie and Tommy have been together A While, building a life together and things were fine for the most part, but recently Eddie feels like Tommy is getting a bit Distant in the bedroom, honestly in general too, and it's just not as satisfying to get fucked by him as it used to be.

Tommy starts talking about how he's been thinking about how good it'd be to see Eddie get fucked by another man, how he thinks he knows how to find a guy who might be up for it, who might satisfy both their needs, Eddie's through a thorough railing, Tommy's through this desire to Watch.

There's a bit of drama involved when Eddie wants to meet this guy and Tommy suggests they go on a date "what about you? Don't you want to meet this guy first?" "oh I met him the other night, I told you, remember?" Eddie was told about a sports thing with a friend, not a date with their bull. ("It's not like that, I found out he likes the same team as me, we had a beer and chatted, calm down.") The drama passes with a "be more clear with communication" vibe to the resolution, right.

Eddie meets Steve, he seems nice, he's not weird, he's not a serial killer, he seems like a guy who just wants to have a fun time, he's hot too, and of course Eddie just outright asks what he's packing, he wants to know what to be ready for (and holy shit he's not expecting quite the answer, he's got the bigger dick in his relationship but Steve outdoes him, Eddie isn't a size queen exactly but he's curious, so he's on board).

So with that first meeting out of the way, things are arranged, and literally a week later Eddie is fucked within an inch of his life (his words) and Tommy seems thrilled. Steve doesn't linger, he doesn't linger any of the following times either.

Tommy has to leave town for some business bullshit, gives Eddie Steve's number, which does make Eddie realise it was a bit weird that he never got to make the arrangements there but whatever, and gives him blanket permission to get fucked as long as he sets up a camera. Which fine, keeps everything above board.

Except Steve unintentionally starts to linger, and Eddie kind of likes it, he likes waking up in someone's arms, having someone bring him coffee and a bagel from the cafe down the street, Steve is funny and kind and makes Eddie feel good.

So naturally Eddie sends him away, spills his guts to Tommy on their call later.

"You're not with Steve?"

"I can't do it, babe, I... it feels like cheating," but Tommy insists it's fine, "It's not, the fucking was fine but... shit man I let him stay, it was fucking domestic."

"What about me?" Eddie had thought this was about Tommy, about not emotionally cheating on him.

"The watching? I... we can find another guy, it's fine, we can talk about it."

"No, it's... fuck Munson," Munson???? "it has to be him, it's fucking pointless if it isn't!" Eddie doesn't even get the chance to question it, Tommy calls him every name under the sun and hangs up on him.

It's not hard to understand, as Eddie thinks back on every time they've had Steve in their bed, every glance he shot at his partner, Tommy's eyes were never on him. Steve was the important part. Steve was who Tommy wanted.

He calls Steve, he's mad, asks who the fuck he is, how he met Tommy, how long they've been plotting this.

Steve is clueless, he's known Tommy since high school, they bumped into each other a few months back (around the time things started to fizzle for Eddie), he thought Eddie knew that, he thought Eddie had suggested this whole thing because Tommy had thought it would be too weird for friends to do that.

Eddie falls deathly quiet and won't answer when Steve asks if he's okay, if he's still there. Eddie hangs up and tries to process this whole mess, how his boyfriend has probably spent every single session fantasizing he was in Eddie's place, under a guy he's been fawning over since high school but is too steeped in internalised homophobia to let fuck him (he never let Eddie top either, they were working on it, there was therapy involved).

He's shocked from his stupour when there's banging on the door, dragging himself to answer, surprised to find Steve stood looking genuinely worried about him. Steve fusses over him and Eddie eventually ends up curled into his side, voice flat as he explains everything, including how he doesn't want to stay here anymore.

He ends up at Steve's place and much to Tommy's utter dismay, after the break up and Eddie's recovery from a weird ass betrayal, Steddie becomes a whole thing and Tommy is left in the dust.

Further context: Durham city council (Reform UK) cut funding and support for Pride. The Durham Miner's Association and other trade unions raised enough money for Durham Pride 2026 to go ahead - a direct call back to when Lesbian and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM) raised money for mining communities when Margaret Thatcher seized union funding during the miner strikes of 1984-85.

At the 1985 Labour party meet, the motion to support LGBT rights as a party was passed due to a block vote from mining unions.

Stephen Guy, the chair of the Durham Miners’ Association, said that when it became apparent Durham Pride was under threat, he took it upon himself to “encourage the trade union movement to step up and do the right thing, and stand shoulder to shoulder with the LGBT+ community […] They not only raised funds for us, but came to our communities, uplifted our spirits when they were down, and showed their solidarity.”

Eddie has things to do.

He's busy.

There's a grocery list folded in his pocket waiting to get crossed off.

But all of that can wait, because there's a guy carrying his dog walking right in front of him.

The guy's wearing bright red running shorts, and the muscles in his legs flex with every step. In his arms sits a…Eddie actually has no clue what breed of dog it is, but whatever it is, it looks completely content with its life, tucked securely against this man's chest, watching the traffic go by.

Eddie has never wanted to be a dog more.

Which is saying something, because he doesn't even like dogs that much. He's more of a cat person.

So why is a guy carrying his dog the hottest thing Eddie has seen in months?

Why is he carrying the dog, anyway?

Maybe he's waiting until they reach the park so it doesn't run into traffic.

Maybe the dog just wanted to be carried.

Eddie can relate.

He, too, would like to be carried around by this guy.

He reaches his turn.

Eddie slows.

Thinks about it.

Then promptly ignores it.

Groceries have to wait, for now he's following a random hot stranger whose face he hasn't even seen yet.

Totally normal behavior.

Eddie's eyes drift down to those legs again, then slightly higher.

Yep.

Thank you, running shorts.

He misses another turn.

Suddenly the guy stops.

He crouches down and carefully sets the dog on the ground.

The dog immediately holds one paw slightly off the pavement.

Oh.

Great.

The dog's injured.

And now Eddie feels like an asshole.

Here he is thirsting over some guy who's been carrying his hurt dog around.

Then again…Why does that somehow make him even hotter?

Eddie desperately tries to think of a reason to approach.

Maybe the dog stepped on a bee.

Maybe there's glass.

Maybe…What exactly is Eddie supposed to do?

He's not a vet or something.

He has nothing to offer here.

Then the guy finally looks up.

And Eddie catches his first glimpse of his face.

Of course.

Of fucking course.

He's gorgeous.

Like insultingly gorgeous.

Eddie's so busy staring that he doesn't realize he's stopped walking, too.

Not until the guy's eyes meet his.

Eddie immediately jerks his gaze away. He glances around, pretends he's hopelessly lost, then spins on his heel and starts walking in the opposite direction.

His head hangs low.

His ears burn.

Eddie Munson is, at the end of the day, a very weak man.
