It was your first day working in The Pitt. You had relocated from Philadelphia after your messy breakup. You needed a change of scenery without fully leaving the state that you called home. Luckily The Pitt needed more nurses so they didn't hesitate to hire you for the Emergency Department.
You were used to chaos so the loud and busy ER didn't phase you. You were on your way to the charge desk to introduce yourself to the other nurses when a familiar silhouette caught your eye. "Frank?" He turned around and widened his eyes in surprise. "Holy shit! What are you doing here? I haven't seen you in years!" Frank walked towards you, arms crossed over his chest. "I thought that was you! I just moved here from Philly." You couldn't help but stare at him. You were friends with him when you were teenagers, he was lanky and a loser back then. But now…
"You look good! How have you been?" You asked. He was taller, more fit, attractive. Were his eyes always this blue? Frank smiled. "Could be better. I have two kids now." He spoke matter-of-factly. He uncrossed his arms, quickly stuffing them in his pockets. You caught a glimpse of a gold ring on his finger. Married. But he didn't say that.
"Hello?! This isn't happy hour!" A blonde woman shouted from behind the desk. "You must be the new nurse they hired for my ER. I'm Dana. Nice to meet you. Now, I hear you have lots of experience so I need you to stop canoodling and get to work." You smiled at her and nodded. "Whitaker! There's a patient in Central 9 that needs blood work done. Go and take this new nurse here with you." She had a strong command. You already liked her.
You waved goodbye to Frank and headed in the direction of the man with sad eyes.
"So, you know Dr. Langdon?" He tried making conversation.
"Yeah. We knew each other when we were teens. Small world, huh?" Whitaker nodded. "I'm from Nebraska so I never run into people I used to know. Must be nice though. At least you already have a friend here." You smiled in response as you entered the patient's room and got to work.
As your shift continued, you found yourself constantly spotting Frank amidst the busy ER. You watched him interact with the other residents. He seemed close with one doctor in particular; a blonde woman with a braid and glasses who had introduced herself to you as soon as she spotted you. "I'm Dr. Melissa King but everyone calls me Mel." She's nice, you could see why Frank was friends with her. You saw the tension between Frank and two doctors, one being the attending and the other was a resident who decided nicknamed you "Bunny Rabbit" after watching you munch down on baby carrots as a snack. Dr. Santos. She did not like Frank, and the topic seemed too touchy to ask why.
After a couple of hours, Frank pulled you to work with him in Triage. You were looking forward to watching him in his element, and you were finally going to have time to catch up with him after so many years.
"So… Two kids huh? Who's the unlucky woman that had to bear your children, Frank?" You teased him lightheartedly, slipping into the friendly bullying you always directed at him when you were kids. He chuckled in response, not answering the question as he worked on his patient. Trouble in paradise. Taking the hint, you decided on pivoting the conversation. "You know what's really funny? One of our mutual friends told me that you used to have a crush on me back in the day. Can you believe that?" Frank shifted uncomfortably. "I did." He spoke without looking at you. You smiled, partly because he was really hot now, but mostly because you now had new material to tease him with.
"You did?"
Frank finished up on the patient, giving aftercare instructions, and ignoring the cunning smile on your face. "It was a long time ago so why don't we just drop it?" But you weren't going to drop it. Negging was your love language.
As you kept working on patients with Frank you continued to tease him.
"What was it about me that captivated you?"
"For how long did you like me?"
"Did you tell your parents about your undying love for me?"
"Was it because I'm really funny and smart? Was it because I'm just so irresistible?"
You were getting on his nerves and you knew it. You wanted to see him angry. Frank would just sigh in exasperation. Once it had slowed down enough, Frank glared at you. There it is.
"Can I talk to you for a second?"
Before you could answer, he grabbed you by the arm firmly. Not too hard that you couldn't get out of his grip. He dragged you into exam room 1 in Triage. Dana had explained that it was one of the most private rooms in the ED.
Frank pushed you in and closed the door behind him.
"I want to be nice because it's your first day and I haven't seen you in a long time but what is your problem?" He was quiet but his voice had a hint of frustration.
"What did I do?" You feigned innocence.
Frank looked into your eyes. He didn't say a word. You suddenly realized just how close he was standing. His arms were crossed, and it made his biceps look good. You heard your heart pounding in your ears, you were nervous and you didn't want to think about why. Suddenly, his lips crashed into yours. You kissed him back without thinking and then you pushed him away.
"Aren't you married?"
Frank's eyes traveled from yours down to your lips. He was breathing heavily.
"I won't tell if you don't." He whispered before his mouth was on you again. You let him kiss you against your better judgment. Between your ex and the move, you could use the distraction.
Frank placed his hand in the back of your neck. You could feel the wedding band's cold metal on your skin. He pressed himself against you, forcing you to sit on the hospital bed behind you. He pushed you up further on the bed, climbing up on top of you. "What if someone walks in?" You managed to say breathlessly in between kisses, his hands wandering your body, "Guess we better be fast." He smiled, trailing his lips to your neck.
Frank's teeth nibbled at your skin, leaving a soft fire behind. You bit your lip to contain a moan. He reached his hand under your scrubs, touching your bare skin. His hands were soft, gentle. A complete contrast with the lustful kisses he planted along your neck and jaw. You ran your hands through his soft brown hair, massaging his scalp with your fingers. Frank moaned quietly into your skin, his hot breath making your arousal grow. Every thought running through your head told you this was a horrible idea. Sleeping with a married senior resident on your first day at your new job was a terrible lapse in judgment. Yet your body reacted positively. Your skin buzzed and your chest felt tight whenever his fingers traced every inch of your body.
Frank slipped his hand under the waistband of your pants, grazing your clit lightly making you gasp in response. He chuckled under his breath. "God, I love the little noises you make." He applied more pressure to your clit causing you to buck your hips into his hand. You reached your hand towards his growing erection. You felt him twitch in your hand as you began palming him through his pants. "fuck" he whispered. Meeting your lips with his once again. Frank pulled the fabric separating his fingers from your wet slit, inserting a finger inside of you. A moan escaped your lips feeling him pump slowly before inserting another finger. Your hand drifted under his pants to grab a hold of his hard dick.
Frank moaned into your mouth as he felt your soft and warm hand wrap around him. His tip weeping precum, you wiped it with your thumb and teasing him with friction. Frank thrust into your hand, allowing more moans to escape him. He pumped his fingers into you faster, listening to the way your body responded and finding a rhythm that satisfied you. You matched his pace, stroking him to his satisfaction. You closed your eyes, focusing on every touch, every sensation, every breath. You felt yourself getting close, and you could tell Frank was too. The way his breathing grew heavy, his body fighting to find more friction, his fingers pumping messily into you. You let yourself get lost in the waves of pleasure washing over your body as you reached your climax. You felt him release hot sticky cum all over your hand, panting in an attempt to catch his breath.
He rolled off of you, letting your high subside as he came down from his own.
After a couple of seconds he sighed. "I'm gonna go get new scrubs. Do you want me to get some for you or…?" He asked, turning over to face you. You laughed. "I'll do it myself." You looked up at the ceiling, trying to process everything that happened. Your day isn't even over yet, you still had two hours left and already you did so many things that could get you in trouble. You closed your eyes, trying to regulate your anxiety.
"Relax. We've been missing for 10 minutes tops. Nobody will notice. Half the ER isn't even talking to me anyway." He brushed a piece of hair off your face. "I'll go out first. And I promise I won't bother you for the rest of the shift… But-"
You opened your eyes to look at him. "If you have time after. There's plenty of room in my car." He winked and smiled at you. You scoffed, rolling your eyes at his indecent proposal. Frank walked briskly out of the exam room, looking around to make sure the coast was clear before he slipped out of your view.
You sat up on the bed, shaking your head in disbelief. Quietly vowing to yourself that you will never allow your body to get in the way of making good decisions. Promising to not get involved with him again. You straightened yourself and walked out.
Langdon’s head snapped toward Danna, who was already looking at him over the rim of her glasses like she’d been waiting for him to say something stupid.
For a second, he considered telling her the truth—that his head felt like it might actually split open, that coming back on a shift like this had been a spectacularly bad decision. The kind you only make when you’re not thinking clearly or maybe trying not to think at all.
But Danna didn’t do sympathy. She barely did conversation.
So instead, he just looked back at her, jaw tight, like this was all completely manageable and not, in fact, the worst possible reintroduction to work he could have picked.
"Got a minute?” she asked, brow furrowing.
There were too many cases that still needed reassessing. The Pitt roared with overlapping conversations, chaos bleeding into every corner. Frank caught the ends of his stethoscope, rolling them between his fingers—a habit he’d picked up somewhere along the way and never dropped. He glanced over his shoulder, half-expecting Robby to be there.
He wasn’t.
Frank drifted toward the nurses’ station anyway, not entirely convinced this wasn’t about to become his problem.
“Depends," he said.
“If you got time to wander my ER like a lost puppy, you got a minute.”
“Yeah," he said, then. Slightly scared of her. "Sure.”
Danna held his gaze a second longer than necessary, like she was still deciding if this was worth it. He only held the look, resisting the urge to fill the silence. That never went well with her.
“Check on Mel," she said, finally. "See if she needs a breather.”
Frank’s grip tightened slightly on his stethoscope.
So that’s what this was.
He knew Mel had had a hard day, but for Danna to notice it… That wasn’t nothing. And he didn’t like where his mind was going with it.
“Is this because of Becca?” he asked. “Her sister. Or the deposition?”
She paused again, assessing him. It was unsettling how Danna could do two things at once—stapling papers, swapping clipboards into the right stacks—while people kept dropping more in front of her. Like she had an extra set of hands.
He could’ve used one of those himself.
“Somehow…” Danna sighed, pausing just long enough to give him an unimpressed look. “You’re the only one she seems to listen to.”
Frank shifted his weight, fingers still worrying the ends of his stethoscope. That didn’t feel like a compliment.
“I don’t care why,” she added, already reaching for the next clipboard someone dropped in front of her. “I just need two hours to wrap this up.”
Frank glanced past her at the floor—busy, loud, no room for anything extra—and then back. People moved in and out of rooms without pause. He didn’t have time to think about what she might’ve meant by that. Mel was his resident. That was reason enough.
“So you’re looking the other way.”
That got her attention. Danna’s eyes flicked up, sharp over the rim of her glasses.
“This time,” she said. A beat, just long enough. “Next time—”
He raised a hand slightly, cutting it off. He didn’t need the reminder—about boundaries, about residents, about the way Danna was looking at him like she’d already put it together.
“Yeah. Got it.”
She held his gaze another second, like she was checking if that was actually true.
“Good,” she said, already turning back to her paperwork. “Now, go.”
Langdon nodded once and turned away, slipping back into the chaos of the floor. There wasn’t much room to think out there, which was probably for the best.
He went in search of Mel.
It wasn’t easy. Frank checked nearly every spare room on the floor, up the stairs, even the bathrooms. He found her in one of the back rooms—the ones they only used when things got out of hand.
Apparently, they weren’t there yet.
Yet.
The lights were off, but through the small glass window, he could see the familiar line of her blonde braid. She was facing the monitor, back to the door, completely absorbed. He stepped inside carefully, easing the door shut behind him, trying not to make a sound.
She didn’t turn.
The monitor was on, its soft glow steady in the dark—enough to hold her attention, enough that she didn’t notice him come in.
“Dr. King,” he said.
She startled, a small, sharp movement. Then she saw it was him, and her shoulders dropped just enough to notice.
He caught it. It meant more than it should have.
“Dr. Langdon,” Mel said, letting out a sigh.
Then he noticed the monitor was connected to her index finger. Not a full cardiac setup. Just a pulse ox. Still.
He frowned slightly.
“Everything okay?”
For a beat, Mel looked visibly embarrassed. He immediately regretted it—he hadn’t meant to put her on the spot, just to make sure she wasn’t feeling sick.
She shifted on her feet, glancing down at the pulse ox. Her fingers moved like she was about to take it off, then stilled. She left it where it was. As if he had changed her mind.
“Yeah. Yeah, I just—” she frowned, the frustration he’d seen all day flickering back into place. “I just needed a minute.”
Carefully, Frank watched her avert her eyes, glancing back at the monitor. It seemed easier for her—looking at the screen instead of at him.
So he did the same.
The waveform moved steadily across the display, climbing and falling in a familiar rhythm. Eighty beats per minute. Nothing alarming. He focused on that, giving her the space she seemed to need.
“Yeah. Me too.” He nodded toward the screen. “So what are we looking for—PVCs?”
Premature ventricular contractions. Early beats from the ventricles, out of sync with everything else. Nothing dramatic. Well, until they were. But she knew that already.
“I hope not. Are there?”
He leaned in slightly, studying the trace for a second longer than necessary.
“No. You’re good. Textbook sinus.”
Mel had always had trouble picking up his sarcasm, but that never really stopped him from using it anyway. Frank smiled, hoping it might ease the tension, but her attention had already drifted back to the monitor, following her own heartbeat across the screen.
“I like watching it. The monitor.”
“Yeah?” He turned his attention back to it.
“It’s… I don’t know. It’s steady. You can just... follow it. Know there’s another beat coming.” Mel paused, then added, “Usually.”
That got a laugh out of him. At least it wasn’t a code blue.
“Happy that’s still the case."
It somehow made sense—how she would turn to patterns like this to soothe herself. It was quiet, constant, and real. He wondered if it had anything to do with watching her own body function, being aware of it alive as everything else unfolded around them.
"Do you do this a lot?”
“No.” She shook her head slightly. “I used to. When I was a student. ICU rotation—sepsis case and…” She trailed off, shaking her head again, as if the memory wasn’t something she wanted to finish. Cases did that more often than they should. “I haven’t done it in a while.”
Frank watched the waveform climb and fall.
“Probably a good sign.”
“Yeah.”
The small room was silent but for the low beat of her heartbeat filling the space.
“So,” he said after a moment, nodding faintly toward the screen, “why are we doing this now?”
In the dim light, he caught the reflection of her pale hair shifting—and the worry in her eyes. Her brow furrowed again, and Frank had to bite back the urge to fix whatever was frustrating her.
This wasn’t something he could solve for her.
So he waited.
“Becca was discharged,” Mel said, keeping her gaze forward. A beat. “She took the antibiotics and left for Middle Hill.”
“That’s good,” he said, still watching the steady rhythm on the screen.
“She also… dismissed me.”
That made him glance over.
“How?” He frowned. He knew how close they were, and how hard it had been for Mel to adjust to her sister’s independence. Even so, it was hard to believe she’d just ditch her like that.
She didn’t look back at him, eyes fixed on the monitor.
“I thought we were watching the fireworks.” Her eyes stayed on the screen. A pause. “It’s the Fourth of July. We always go. There are swings in the park. We sit there and look at the sky and—” Mel stopped, shaking her head slightly. “That’s what we do. That's what we've always done. Why would she hide that she had a boyfriend from me?”
Frank turned his gaze back on the monitor, giving her space.
“Maybe she wanted that part of her life to be hers.”
“But that doesn’t make sense.” Her voice tightened, just slightly. “She told me they were going to the park. For fireworks. The same park.” A beat. “Why would she choose him over me for fireworks?”
The waveform climbed, fell. Climbed again.
“We have a system—” Mel faltered. “—we had a system, and…”
He could feel her breaking down beside him. But Frank was unsure if she needed space to say whatever she needed to figure things out in her head, or for him to put it plainly: people did strange things about what mattered most.
The beating increased its rhythm, going to a hundred per minute, and Langdon glanced at the screen, more out of habit than concern.
“Hm. Tachycardia. Sinus. Still benign.”
She didn’t react to that.
“What if she chooses him over me from now on?” Mel's voice was thinner now, less controlled.
“That’s not going to happen,” he said, turning toward her, trying to reassure her.
But she was too deep in her head, eyes unfocused, glossing over. Her voice was strained now, her lower lip trembling.
“What if it does? What if she gets all the good things in life and I’m left stranded at work for whole days? What if she abandons me, then?”
“Mel. She won’t.”
“I don’t want to be alone, Dr. Langdon.” A small, uneven breath.
"Frank," he corrected her.
Then she turned to him, desperate.
“I don’t want to be on the swings alone.”
“Hey—”
He’d never seen this much emotion from her all at once, and Frank was more shaken by it than he wanted to admit. He didn’t know what to do with it—whether to treat her like any other colleague, or like Mel, who always seemed a little like a deer in the woods, experiencing everything for the first time.
She shook her head quickly, like she could stop it, but it was already slipping.
“I don’t—” Her voice broke, frustration collapsing into something else. “I don’t understand.”
For a second, he hesitated—just long enough to think about it.
Then he didn’t.
He stepped closer, one hand coming up, tentative at first, before settling at her shoulder.
“Hey,” he said again, quieter now.
That was enough.
She folded into him, sudden and shaking, like whatever she’d been holding in finally gave way. Her hands caught at his scrubs, and he steadied her, one arm wrapping around her without thinking.
“It’s okay,” Frank murmured, not sure if it was, but saying it anyway.
His cheek grazed her temple, and his fingers brushed the ends of her braid, as if she could feel it as reassurance.
She didn’t answer, just held on, shoulders shaking as the monitor kept its rhythm beside them. It hovered around a hundred, and he glanced at it, searching for something—anything—that might help her feel better.
“Hey—hey.” Frank's voice softened, one hand steady at her shoulder. “You’re not alone. She went to the fireworks with someone. That’s not the same as leaving you.”
“It feels like it,” Mel said into his shirt, her grip tightening slightly.
“Yeah.” He nodded once, even though she couldn’t see it. “Doesn’t mean it is.”
Those were words he wished he could’ve heard a lot more often. But even if no one had ever said them to him, the least he could do was make sure she knew.
You're not alone.
Frank kept his eyes on the monitor over her shoulder, watching as Mel’s heartbeat slowly returned to a normal rhythm. It took a while, but he didn’t move, just held her, his fingers idly tracing the ends of her braid.
Like the stethoscope, he was always picking up new habits without meaning to.
He just wished this wasn't a new one.
After a while, she said, “Okay.” And her voice was small, but steadier.
He eased back just enough to look at her, not letting go completely.
Frank braced himself for Mel’s eyes to be teary, but it would be a lie to say he wasn’t affected by how bright they looked, this close to his face, even in the dark.
He swallowed, hesitating, then stepped back.
Mel didn’t seem to register the shift in him.
Maybe that was for the best.
Frank let out a quiet breath, forcing his attention back to something safer—something he could actually do something about. Using her own tactic, he glanced back at the monitor, at the steady rhythm moving across the screen, and grounded himself in it.
“Maybe you should give her some space," he said. "And maybe let yourself do things with other people, too.”
Out of his embrace, Mel seemed to be watching him, but at his words, she shook her head faintly and dropped her gaze again.
“I don’t know how to do that,” she said. “I’m always at work.”
And wasn’t that an understatement? Ten hours into a single shift, and Frank already felt at least a week older.
“Yeah.” He let out a quiet breath. “Honestly, I feel the same.” And it felt good to share it with someone who understood, for a change.
He watched her then, the shift of her weight, the hand rubbing her elbow as her eyes returned to the monitor. She was obviously affected by what had happened, but somehow, in his eyes, it made her more human. Flawed, and, against his better judgment, beautiful, like the person he had met months ago.
“For what it’s worth, I think you’ll figure it out.”
Mel met his eyes, shy. She nodded once, barely there.
“Thank you," she said.
And then she smiled, softly.
He couldn’t help but smile back.
Frank dipped his head, telling himself his job here was done, wishing things could be simpler for her. He gave her the space she seemed to need, stepping toward the door.
But instead, he found himself hesitating—wanting to stay, to do more, to fix what he could.
To fix everything.
“Hey, Mel?” Frank said, already shifting back a step, his hand brushing the edge of the door. “You still going to the swings?”
She looked at him the way she did, so surprised someone was directing a question to her, and shook her head faintly, eyes dropping again.
“I don’t know," she said quietly. “I don’t know where else to go.”
He didn't give her a moment to decide.
“Then go there.” He nodded once, like that settled it. “I’ll meet you." Frank smiled at her. "I don’t really feel like watching the fireworks alone this year.”
He could see her blushing. Mel's eyes were so wide, he was sure he could see her cheeks turning red, even in the dark.
“But… your family?”
“I had plans. I changed them." He shrugged. As if it was enough explanation. "Consider me trying things with other people.” A beat. “With you.”
He could see it land—watch her try to make sense of what he meant.
And then the monitor chimed.
Frank glanced over. Her heart rate had jumped—one twenty, climbing. The waveform quickened, the rhythm still regular, just faster.
Mel noticed it too, scrambling to pull the pulse ox off her finger, like that might undo it.
Too late.
Frank smiled.
“Right.” She blinked, still processing. Breathing quickly, she smoothed her hair and pressed the mute button on the alarm, shutting it down. It died quickly, though not silently.
He gave her a small, almost reassuring nod, already reaching for the handle.
“Eight? At the park?”
Her doe eyes stayed wide, but she nodded anyway.
“Yeah.” Mel took a breath, trying to recompose herself. “Yeah, sure.”
“Good.”
He lingered just a moment longer, like he might say something else, then didn’t. Instead, he pulled the door open and stepped back into the noise of the ER, letting it swallow him up again.
Crossing his fingers that Danna wouldn't find out.

You struggled. Your arms attempting to break free from the rope around your wrists but to no avail. You couldn't see anything with the bag over your head. Only the scent of the ocean, the sway of the ship beneath your feet as you were being walked, and the sound of your kidnappers were the only things that could reach your senses. You felt them put you down on your feet and tie your hands above your head. You found secure footing as they took the bag off your head.
Your eyes took a minute to adjust, taking note of your surroundings. You were on a ship, you knew that. But you were specifically on a pirate ship at. And it looked like a room full of circus supplies. The pirates who kidnapped were surely the Buggy Pirates. There was no other clown pirate to your knowledge, and since they looked like circus performers it was your best guess. And you were right.
Into the room walked one Buggy the Clown. You had seen his wanted poster in the newspaper before. He was somehow scarier in person. Alluring almost. He was laughing, cackling. His bright blue hair was in a ponytail, sans the hat. He had a butterfly knife in his hand, and was doing little tricks as he approached you. "Freaks, clear the room. I need to have a little conversation with our lovely friend here." The knife swung impressively in his hand. "I have a question for you." He pointed the knife at your neck. "What's a pretty thing like you doing following a bunch of pirates around?" Shit.
You thought you were being stealthy. You had never seen pirates before in your island and you were a bit curious. You knew it was dangerous but you were tired of living in fear so you followed them around against your better judgment. You were so busy watching them that you didn't notice the other members of the crew watching you. You looked at the clown in front of you. His makeup was the perfect amount of messy, smudged, dirty. You felt a mixture of fear and excitement pooling in your stomach. You were afraid for your life, there was a wanted criminal pointing a knife in your direction. And yet there was a wanted criminal pointing a knife in your direction. "I was just-" You couldn't think straight enough to formulate an answer. Buggy wore an intimidating smile on his face as he walked closer to you, you felt the fabric of his coat graze your arm. "I asked you a question." He pressed the cool metal of the blade against your neck. You sucked in air through your teeth, feeling the sharp edge of the knife press lightly into your skin. The ship swayed, resulting in a small shallow cut on the side of your neck. You had expected as much, what you weren't ready for was the borderline-erotic groan that escaped your lips.
You looked at Buggy, whose eyes no longer said murder. They now showed an expression of intrigue. He smiled as if he had figured something out but wasn't sure. And you bet he was going to test his theory.
He knelt down in front of you. You gasped, feeling his gloved hand take a hold of your leg. He gently raised it to his eye level and pressed the knife against your thigh. He looked up at you, scanning your every expression. You bit your lip, you hadn't noticed what pretty eyes the clown pirate had. The knife glided over your thigh, creating another shallow cut. You hissed in pain, although it didn't hurt as much. You felt good. You watched as Buggy pressed his tongue onto your thigh. Warm, soft, and wet. He licked the beaded blood on your skin. You shivered. Oh no.
"I see. This is why you were following my crew around." Buggy stated. He got up, still holding on to your leg as he leaned in close to you. His eyes were fixated on your lips. "Wanted to know what it was like to get fucked by a pirate as famous as me, huh?" You felt his breath on your lips. You didn't want to admit it but you were very turned on. You whimpered, unable to respond to his lewd comment. He brought his lips to your ear and whispered. "I'm right aren't I?"
He chuckled to himself, caressing the leg he was holding. The ship swayed once again, making the clown fall into you. The knife cut your skin again. There was a soft burn emanating from the previous two, and you liked it. Buggy placed his hands on your waist, allowing you to put your leg down. His face was inches away from yours. Your breathing was heavy, you felt as if you had no control of your body. The excitement you felt earlier had completely overpowered the fear. This was exhilarating. You felt your panties dampen beneath you.
Buggy leaned in closer. "I'm right." He whispered before kissing you. He tasted of lipstick and sweet liquor. His kiss was full of want. His tongue explored your mouth. You wanted to touch him, you hated having your hands tied. But for once you were letting go of control and it felt so amazing. Buggy's hands roamed your body. He trailed his finger up and down your stomach, teasing you before sliding his hand under your shorts. You gasped against his mouth. Your skin has never felt so sensitive. He pressed a finger against your aching clit, earning a soft moan from you. "Was it the knife? Did the pain excite you?" His voice was dark. You bit your lip to prevent a louder moan from escaping you. The way he spoke to you made you feel feverish. You didn't know yourself anymore.
Buggy moved his finger slowly. Letting your body respond to his movements. He smiled when you started grinding against his hand in search for more friction. His other hand was lightly trailing the knife on your cheek. "Don't worry, I won't cut that pretty face of yours." Buggy looked in your eyes as your hips moved more violent, chasing your high. "Untie me." You managed to say. You were out of breath, drunk with pleasure. Buggy smiled, placing a small cut on your arm. "Tsk. Tsk. Where are your manners. Say please."
"Please." You exhaled.
Buggy retracted his hand, a whimper of disappointment left your lips. He took off his glove, which was now soaked. Buggy took the knife and cut the rope that was tying your hands together. You kissed him passionately. Letting your hands touch him. Buggy grabbed your hand and guided it to his growing erection. He twitched under his pants. "Say you want it." Buggy tried to sound threatening but it came out like a plea. He wanted it as much as you. You slipped your hand under his pants and felt him bare in your hand. He hissed in response. "I want it." You whispered, kissing him again.
Buggy took his pants off, wearing no underwear underneath, he was exposed in front of you. He was bigger than you expected. You slid off your shorts and your panties. He licked his lips, his makeup was messier than before. His lips crashed into yours, you felt him against your thigh. You wanted him inside you. The ship swayed, making the two of you lose your balance. You fell on top of him.
Buggy's gaze intensified, you ached for friction. You skin buzzed with desire as you took Buggy in your hand and lined yourself up with him. You lowered yourself slowly, letting your body adjust to his size. He was big. And it hurt you deliciously. Buggy groaned as you sucked him into you. "Fuck you're so tight." His hands traveled up and down your thighs, grazing the small cut he had placed there earlier. You felt overwhelmed with sensation. Your eyes rolled as you began to ride him. Buggy cursed under his breath, his hands roaming all over you. Your moans became louder with every movement. One of his hands found its way to your throat and squeezed lightly. The room filled with lewd sounds as you both felt the pressure build. You bit your lip in an attempt to muffle your moans, but Buggy wouldn't have that.
"Say my name when you cum. Ah fuck." Buggy grunted. He twitched inside you, feeling your walls tighten even more around him as you reached your climax. "Fuck Buggy." You felt him cum first, filling you up entirely. That sent you over the edge, completely letting go as a strong wave of pleasure washed over you. You shuddered. The two of you were panting, trying to catch your breath. You got off of him.
He laughed breathlessly as he sat up. "I think I'll keep you." He looked at you and smiled maliciously. "You have proved yourself useful, congratulations."
You thought about how boring your life had been until this point. You decided that if you had risked your life for some excitement then you might as well have fun now.

The chaotic nature of the ED was constantly overwhelming for Dr. Mel King. She found today especially stressful. Her and Becca had argued before she left for work in the morning. Becca wanted to spend the night at her boyfriend's again, and Mel was struggling with the idea that Becca no longer relied entirely on her. Mel understood that Becca was her own person, an adult, and yet she had gotten used to her role as caretaker. She didn't know how to live for herself anymore.
All that unresolved frustration unfortunately bled through her shift. She was distracted, zoning out at times, deep in her thoughts while attempting to treat her patients. And the constant chatter and beeping of the monitors made her feel irritable and anxious. Mel decided to take a small break. She made her way towards an empty and quiet staircase, taking out her lava lamp app on her phone for a couple of minutes. She just needed some time to calm down a bit. That was where Frank found her.
"You okay, Mel?" Frank spoke softly as he took a seat on the stairs next to her.
"Huh? Oh yeah. I'm fine just-"
"Just taking a break?"
"Yeah." Mel's voice broke a little. She looked at her phone's lava lamp again.
"How's everything with Becca?" Frank asked. He was looking at her, studying her facial expressions. She closed her eyes for a second and took a deep breath, opening her eyes on the exhale. "Becca's okay. She's uh- She's planning on sleeping over at her b-" Mel struggled to say the word boyfriend.
"Boyfriend's place?" Frank finished her sentence.
Mel looked at him. "Yeah." She replied, looking down at the stairs. "She wants to stay with her boyfriend."
"And that's a bad thing?" Frank questioned.
"No. It's just… I don't know." Mel sighed, pensive.
"Change is tough, I know." Frank crossed his arms, secretly fidgeting with the ring on his finger. "But maybe now you can do stuff you want to do. You can be your own person, Mel." She nodded. "Yeah. Yeah. I haven't gone to the movies in a while and there's this new period romance film out that I've wanted to watch but I haven't found the time so maybe-" She stopped at the sound of Frank chuckling softly. "Sorry." Mel apologized. "Guess I got a little excited."
"No, don't apologize. I just didn't peg you for the type to enjoy romance movies. I learn something new about you every day." He smiled at her.
"Are you making fun of me?" She asked, a small smile forming on her face?
"Oh I would never. I'm super nice. At least that's what Becca said." A light blush formed on Mel's face as Frank laughed softly.
"Dr. Langdon! I need you to sign off on this to discharge our patient. The child with acute bronchitis." Javadi's voice broke through and got both of them on their feet. Frank took the pen in his hand and glanced back at Mel. "Hang in there, Mel." He said, patting her shoulder softly before walking back to the ER with Javadi.
Mel stood quietly for a second. A warmth lingering on her shoulder, she smiled and fiddled with the stethoscope around her neck before straightening up and heading back to check on her patients. As soon as she entered the ER the chaotic noise flooded her senses, she made an attempt to tune out the noise in her head but to very little success. The beeping of the monitors was getting louder in her head. She picked at the skin on her thumbs subconsciously.
"Dr. King!" Mel heard Dr. Robby's voice cut through the noise. She snapped her head to look for him and made her way over to him. His arms were crossed and his brows were furrowed in frustration. "Where were you?" He was exasperated. "I was just-" He cut her off. "Your patient could've died. You didn't see the clot in her leg. It traveled to her lung and now she needs surgery." Mel bit the inside of her cheek. "What? But I ordered the CT." Her mind was scrambling to remember how she could've missed that. "You've been distracted this whole morning. What's going on with you?" He reprimanded her. Mel had her head down in her own disappointment. She could've been responsible for someone's death and all because she couldn't accept the fact that her sister had a boyfriend?
Dr. Langdon was walking out of the bathroom when he saw Robby yelling at Mel. He watched as she walked off to the ambulance bay. He moved before thinking and ran out after her, glaring at Robby as he passed him by. He found her by some bushes nearby, she was looking at her lava lamp. "Mel? Are you okay?" Frank approached her carefully. "Robby's just having a bad day, he didn't mean to sound so-" "It's my fault. I let my problems with my sister affect my work. And the problems are so stupid. I'm stupid. Why am I so upset about my sister having a boyfriend? She's a grown woman. I know that." She vented. "Hey, it's fine. You're a human being, and we human beings worry about stupid shit all the time." Frank placed a hand on her back.
"I worry about stupid shit all the time. I keep wearing this ring on my finger because I worry people will treat me differently if they find out I'm getting divorced. Like bad different without it. Which is stupid but I can't help it." Frank was fidgeting with his wedding band again. Mel was no longer looking at her lava lamp. She was looking at him. "You're getting divorced?"
Frank met her gaze and bit his lip. "Yeah." His voice was barely a whisper. "It's fine. We tried to stay together for the kids but it wasn't working. We realized we're better apart." Mel was listening. She looked into his eyes, trying to show him she was there for him. A small smile formed on his face. "It sounds sadder than it is, I swear. Abby and I are still friends. Only I have to move out obviously. I can't live with my ex wife for much longer." He chucked. "Hey if you come across an apartment that will let me stay for free for a couple of months until I get back on my feet that would be… Nice."
"Move in with me."
Frank was startled at Mel's suggestion. She blushed as she realized what had come out of her mouth.
"I mean. My sister, or Becca, she probably wants to be with her boyfriend anyway. She already spends most of the week with him. You'd help me fill her room and you won't have to pay rent, I already pay for everything…" Mel elaborated. Frank just smiled as he listened to her ramble on. "… I mean eventually you could help out with groceries and stuff. And you would have to tell me ahead of time if you plan on having friends over. Or if your kids are coming. But mi casa es su casa." Mel noticed the smile on Frank's face, her face felt hot. "Why are you looking at me like that?"
Frank shook his head, still smiling. "I appreciate it, Mel. I just don't think I can do that." He looked down and bit his lip nervously. "Why?"
Frank sighed, his brain was going a million miles an hour. Every thought told him it was a bad idea to say anything else, but when he looked at Mel. Looked at how worried she was for him, how badly she wanted to help him, how excited she was at the thought of them being roommates, his words got ahead of his brain. "I'm not sure I'd be able to hold it together if we were living in the same place."
"What do you mean? Hold what together?" She analyzed his facial expressions, his body language, trying to make sense of his words. "Mel." His voice was deep, low, soft. His eyes looked into hers more intensely. He took a deep breath, hesitating slightly. He grabbed her hands impulsively. They felt soft and warm. He held them carefully, as if they could break in his own. His brain told him this was foolish, selfish, a bad idea. Mel's face was a deep shade of red, her eyes wide and her heartbeat quickened. She felt lightheaded. "I don't deserve your kindness, Mel. I'm an addict. I've lied to my family, to my friends and coworkers. I've lied to you." Frank squeezed her hands in his. "Dr. Langdon?"
"I've lied to myself. And I'm tired of lying, Mel. I'm tired of pretending like you're not the main reason I keep coming to work."
Mel couldn't say anything. She looked at Frank in surprise, a wide grin plastered on her face. Frank continued. "It's so easy to talk to you. You make it feel like sunshine even on the grimmest days in this ER. I don't know when it happened but I found myself thinking about you."
"Me too." Mel spoke. Now it was Frank's turn to look surprised.
"You too?" He couldn't believe what he was hearing. He felt that Mel someone deserved much better than him. Yet he felt elated.
She nodded. "I thought I was crazy but when you left, those ten months were the hardest for me here. Nobody really gets me. Not like you get me Dr. Langdon."
"Frank."
"What?"
"Call me Frank. Please."
"Frank." Mel's voice was soft. Nervous.
Frank's face lit up. "Say it again."
"Frank."
He bit his lip to hold himself back from kissing her right then and there. It wouldn't be the most appropriate thing to do. Not that any of the conversation was appropriate at this point. But he owed Mel more respect than this. "Good. It sounds good hearing you say my name."
Mel felt hot. She let out a breath she didn't know she was holding. She felt ten times lighter now. If this is how Becca felt with Adam, she understood why Becca wanted to be with him all the time. Mel beamed.
The ambulance siren in the distance made them aware of the fact that they were still on the clock, with a couple of hours left of their shift. Mel withdrew her hands from Frank's and grabbed onto her stethoscope. Frank crossed his arms and they awaited their newest patient. As the ambulance approached the bay Frank looked at Mel once more.
