Yknow, after seeing Project Hail Mary I was fully expecting this website to be all over shipping Grace and Rocky, so to instead find that everyone has agreed that Grace is an aroace icon and he and Rocky are platonic soulmates is a real fun change of pace that is still oh so very tumblr
On the flipside there's the group of fans who are shipping him with Simon from Iron Lung, called the ship BloodyMary, and had them adopt Laika the space dog and call them "The Patron Saints of One-Way Trips" which is so unbelievably tumblr you just have to smile
I cant believe this movie made me cry over a scene where Ryan Gosling was wearing a t-shirt with the periodic table on it that said "I wear this shirt periodically". I cried. I cried while he was in that stupid shirt.
(These are heavily traced from stock images of them. Except for Rise Donnie because there are no dynamic stock images of his movie design. I used a screenshot instead)(ironically, for the styles I wanted to go for I used rottmnt the movie, and tottmnt despite them originally being a show and a movie respectively)
Swapping the style of each iteration was so cool! My personal favorite to do was 12 in tot/mm because the references I used aligned with facial expression making it much easier :) + it’s a very pretty style!
I struggled the most with rise in 12 for… obvious reasons…
I had to decide whether or not a specific feature was a stylistic choice by the iteration or distinct attribute of its turtles. For example, the 12 turtles have very distinctly shaped limbs. So when drawing 12donnie and 18donnie I considered 12’s canon crossovers. They drew the limbs differently, so I drew the limbs differently.
This is based off of a scraped au of these four swapping universes. All of them are post-(current in mm’s case) canon. Also I consider tot canon in this because I like the character development and you can’t stop me.
Here’s explanations for each of them:
03donnie gets sent to rise
- he has many parallels with the rise boys. Ie: being haunted by a future that he blames himself for, turning into a monster, and being kind :) Also he has a decent amount of multiverse experience, and 18donnie has gotten information from the multiverse. They should cover each other’s weak points despite not directly working together.
(Can you tell that he is my favorite turtle and that this is my favorite universe?)
12donnie gets sent to mm
- he is the most directly experienced with dimensional travel, so putting him in the universe with the least amount of multiverse shit makes sense. Also the turtles of this universe are similar to younger versions of 12 (especially Leo) so that would be angst potential :)
23donnie gets sent to 2003
- Youngest version gets sent to the oldest version, so a nice dynamic forms there. He wouldn’t like the technology ether being too simple because of the time, or too advanced due to the aliens. 03 has the most support for multiverse travel, so he can get help from different sources. Utroms, Renet and Lord Simultaneous, and the Daimyo.
18donnie gets sent to 2012
- Like with 23donnie, he gets help from the Utroms and 12donnie’s previous work. I know rise x 12 is done a lot, but I do love the speculated dynamics between the two. (They also have similar losses, Karai and Splinter respectively)
Trying to write fanfics these days is actually so hard, because on one hand you have all the “oh my god?!?! Why would you write this?!?!? Isn’t he happily married to a WOMAN in canon?!?!?! What this is so disgusting, stop fetishising gay people” people (who definitely don’t know what fetishising gay people actually is) but on the other hand you have people who will refuse to read anything that’s under 10,000 words and if it is, it’s always the “you’re the reason why fandom culture is dying!!”
Like, dude, I’m an artist. Not a writer. But god forbid it I actually try to make something fun for you to read so I can actively participate in something I like.
