ilya rozanov who’s known to boston as the mysterious fuckboy from russia who chirps like he’s getting paid for it and is crazy good at hockey. one day a teammate is absent from a few games in a row and turns back up to practice with a fucking newborn and they’re all in their hockey gear fawning over this tiny baby. then once everyone’s said hi before practice, the crowd parts and ilyas just stood by the doorway, a literal deer in headlights staring at the bundle of blankets in his teammates arms and-

“do you wanna hold him?”

ilya’s moving forward before he can process the words and everyone’s holding their breath as he gathers the newborn into his arms, pausing to take his gloves off first. it’s a few tense seconds before the baby babbles and shifts slightly before tucking his head into the crook of his arm and swiftly falling to sleep.

ilya looks up to see his whole team stifling grins, “i think we’ve found the new babysitter” and he bites back a chirp because he doesn’t want to wake the baby he’s holding so delicately to his chest.

he’s stuck on the sidelines for the whole practice while he rocks the baby through the slams against walls, waving its little arm towards its dad when it eventually wakes up.

and yeah pictures surface soon after of fucking rozanov staring down at the baby in his arms with the fucking softest eyes and twitter has a field day proving he’s a softie at heart

do you think about ilya romanticizing what his mother might have felt about his sexuality? she might not have been as accepting as he thinks.

As someone whose mother died before she could meet my wife, I feel like the answer is probably more nuanced than a straight forward yes or no. Ilya probably wants to remember only the best things about his mother, while also remembering and understanding that she had flaws. When he says that Irina would have loved Shane, I don’t think he’s fantasizing or exaggerating. When you lose people, you tend to imagine them existing in a perfect world. Ilya maybe even more so, given how he lost his mother. He is a grown man looking back in time through a twelve year old’s eyes and twelve year old boys love their mothers, they NEED their mothers. When he thinks of Irina he will ALWAYS be a twelve year old boy, even when he’s imaging her next to his husband. When he tells Shane that Irina would have loved him, he’s telling Shane that his mama would have liked the man he loves, and he truly believes that. He thinks of her as a person that now exists outside of fear and hate and anything that might make her unaccepting. He knows, of course, on an intellectual level that she was a woman raised in a conservative country with conservative religious beliefs. But she’s his mama and she lives in his heart, now. She would have loved Shane like Ilya loves Shane. They are both part of his heart.

So I had a heated rivalry thought. So we all agree that Shane is autistic and because typically when a child is autistic someone else in the family is also autistic. So anyways all this to say The Hollander's are an autistic family.

And it occurred to me today that because they're all autistic they probably do things that they consider normal that a neurotypical person in this case Ilya would be utterly confused by. So without further delay I present my head cannons for the Hollander household is autistic as fuck.

Yuna announcing that she's going to use the blender David going to get three pairs of headphones Shane reaching out for his absent-mindedly while sitting next to Iyla who is confused as to why the blender requires headphones.

One of every two blankets in that house is weighted.

They have many fidgets, ( they limit the bright colors when they can) David will often offer one to Shane while they're watching TV (And if I said David and Yuna's wedding rings were custom made fidget rings then what?)

SAFE FOODS FOR DINNER or like whenever. Family meetings when the recipe of a safe food is changed have 100% happened.

Non verbal time ( this one freaks Ilya out a lot at first, eventually someone explains and he's happy to be there)

The TV/radio volume buttons have never seen an uneven number in their lives.

Special interest yap sessions.

But also conversation scripting, typically used when talking to family members outside the home. Specifically David he struggles to talk to people that are not Yuna or Shane unless he has time to script something

Overstimulated/underestimated routine ( whoever notices it has to tell the other person the one not experiencing it obviously) BUT the times in which it happens to all of them at similar times oh boy.

The floors of that house are heated.

Shane had a crush on Ilya since their first meeting. FALSE.

Shane had a crush on Ilya before their first meeting, watching him play hockey. Basically the reason he approached him at all.

yeah a man bun is a fuckass hairstyle but Shane having longer hair because through the safety net of being loved by Ilya so completely he feels secure enough to start breaking away from the very rigid grip he had over himself to perform to the expectations of traditional hockey player masculinity at all times is important to me

Honestly, Rick Rolling is the best practical joke ever. Like, there’s nothing offensive or mean  spirited about it. It’s just like “Oops you thought there would be something else here but it’s ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’.” which isn’t even a bad song. It’s fairly enjoyable to listen to. There’s no jumpscares, no screaming, no ill will. Just Rick Astley telling you he’s never going to give you up. I think that’s great. “You fell into my trap! Here, listen to this completely benign song that will have no negative effect on you.”
