I think I found my new favorite rabbit hole. This voice actor does Shakespeare scenes in a southern accent and I need to see the whole damn play. Absolutely beautiful
if you're not from the us american south, there's some amazing nuances to this you may have missed. i can't really describe all of them, because i've lived here my whole life and a lot of the body language is sort of a native tongue thing. the body language is its own language, and i am not so great at teaching language. i do know i instinctively sucked on my lower teeth at the same time as he did, and when he scratched the side of his face, i was ready to take up fucking arms with him.
but y'all. the way he said "brutus is an honourable man" - each and every time it changed just a little. it was the full condemnation Shakespeare wanted it to be. it started off slightly mock sincere. barely trying to cover the sarcasm. by the end...it wasn't a threat, it was a promise.
christ, he's good.
the eliding of “you all” to “y’all” while still maintaining 2 syllables is a deliberate and brilliant act of violence. “bear with me” said exactly like i’ve heard it at every funeral. the choices of breaking and re-establishing of eye contact. the balance of rehearsed and improvised tone. A+++ get this man a hollywood contract.
If you’re ever feeling down, just pull up google maps, zoom in on England and start looking at all the place names.
my personal recommendations:
and i oop-
Boost this. Malicious fucking compliance y'all. Tie up their legal system with tens of thousands of cases. Burn their state government’s cash on this issue. Force them to play by the Nth degree of this idiotic rule.
i love uncivil obedience. follow the letter of the law so close that it shows just how ridiculous and unfair the law is
Oh my gosh. I just found this website that walks you though creating a believable society. It breaks each facet down into individual questions and makes it so simple! It seems really helpful for worldbuilding!
Heads up that this is a very extensive questionnaire and might be daunting to a lot of writers (myself included). That being said, it is also an amazing questionnaire and I will definitely be using it (or at the very least, some of it).
Speaking nothing but facts for 37 seconds
HE......❤️
They weren't kidding, that noise was VERY cute.
um can we talk about the fact that stephen colbert asked penn badgley ‘what do you think it says about our society that people are attracted to this psychopath?’ and he replied ‘well, it says something about how much we are willing to be patient and forgive someone who inhabits a body that looks something like mine, the colour of my skin, my gender, these sorts of things, these sorts of privileges, and, you know, how much less willing to forgive people who don’t fit those boxes’
I saw the punchline and it still killed me
we stan Mrs. Sofolarin
Ciri's life in modern aus (and canon) is wild like her parents died when she was little so she was raised by her grandma but when her grandma dies her godfather who she's never met gets custody of her and she has to leave her home to move in with him and then because he gets custody of her his ex-wife comes back into the picture because the godfather needs the ex-wife's help with raising Ciri. Also now she has a lot of scary quasi-uncles and a quasi-grandpa who she sees occasionally. And then theres the godfather's ex-best friend who's a musician and the complete opposite of everyone in her godfather's family and somehow the ex-wife won him in the divorce
Something i really like about the Witcher is that the protagonist isn't the Chosen One TM
He's the Chosen One's dad
Legolas has no idea how old he is. None.
He has a general, ball park idea of his age, he can (usually) guess it within 20- 30 or so years. But that’s all.
He lost count somehwere in his first thousandth years of life and never bothered to figure it out again.
However, if you ask him his age he will tell you WILDLY different answers that seem to be randomly selected out of thin air.
Pippin: Legolas, how old are you?
Legolas: I am 8987 years.
Aragorn: Okay no, Ada isn’t even 8000 years old yet. Try again.
Legolas: I am 72 years old.
Aragorn: And you certainly arnt younger than me.
Legolas: I am 678 years old.
Aragorn: I also feel like that is incorrect.
Legolas: I am 3000 years old.
Aragorn: Much more plausible, but still, I think, incorrect.
Legolas: I am exactly 8 years old.
Aragorn: why are you the way that you are
Legolas: :)
Elves actually count time in a period called a yén iirc, equivalent to 144 of our years.
So it’s not that Legolas doesn’t know how old he is. He just wants to put things in measurements his friends can understand, but he’s very bad at math.
Me, googling this information frantically: Okay now you guys have GOT to be fucking with me, there’s NO way he could’ve actually–

She's right. Some of y'all are very dizzy bitches.
the devil wears prada voice oh i see you think this has nothing to do with you. you go to netflix and you select out, oh I don’t know, a marvel movie, for instance, because you’re trying to tell the world that you take yourself too seriously to care about what you watch. you’re blindly unaware that in 1999 the matrix came out and the fight scenes choreographed by yuen woo-ping were so iconic that all of action cinema started trying to replicate them and the wachowski sisters invented cgi techniques that have yet to be surpassed two decades later. then it filtered out to marvel movies which then trickled down to netflix where you, no doubt, picked out a movie to watch on a saturday night. those fight scenes you like so much in marvel movies represent millions of dollars and countless jobs and so it’s sort of comical how you think that you’ve made a choice that exempts you from good cinema when, in fact, you’re watching action put together by people who made it their life’s work
