DPxDC Deathstroke

Ugh Now I'm stuck on the idea of like Slade(Deathstroke) Constantly trying to get back at Dick through Danny. Like Danny is Dick's son in this, maybe even for a later story in Phoenix Down universe. But basically Deathstroke tests Nightwing's new protege.. having seen this one sticking around. Danny doesn't understand how even with his powers this guy is hard to fight- and getting his ass kicked a fair amount by him. Nightwing jumping in at the right time to help Danny and telling Deathstroke off. Slade realizes Danny is Dick's kid.. and kind of as pay back for Nightwing getting his kid into heroism... Slade takes great interest in Danny. Even finding out how to control him, using a red stone much like Freakshow. Training him as his own sidekick-

By the time Bats and Nightwing catch him- Danny is sent to fight them. Using same name Nightwing did undercover. Danny's trying to fight it. But Slade had enhanced the stone after noticing Danny's resistance. Dick is fighting Slade alone as the rest are trying to contain Danny. Dick doing his best to get the stone back, ENRAGED that Slade messed with his kid. While Slade is cutting Dick deep with his words. Poking at all the right spots. Maybe Jason yelling to get Dick's head in the game. Its only after Slade tells Danny to finish them does Danny knock everyone onto the ground. He starts powering up an attack. Dick tries to go and stop him, only to manage to get held down by Slade. Except Danny doesn't hit them. He changes his shot to a piercing blow, firing at Slade. Danny begging for Dick to help. Dick taking the opportunity to snatch the stone from Slade and crushing it. Slade gets beat up by a furious nightwing before getting away. Slade just chuckling impressed. Saying something like he suppose Danny really is his brood. Just as stubborn too. Nightwing wants to go after him- but Danny calls him while passing out. So Dick catches him, cradling his son in his arms. Just so relieved he's ok... but still fuming that this happened. That he LET it happened. Takes some venting on exercise equipment before Dick can fully calm down. While danny's resting. Rest of the bats trying to help Dick deal with his emotions.

The portal activates and for a moment Danny sees a green void filled with billions of stars and planets. For a moment he sees the universe in its full glory and it’s beautiful. Mesmerizing. And then the void collides with him, tearing him apart. It is the worst pain he’s ever experienced, molecule by molecule of his body, his essence, being destroyed and then put back together. Yet, even as it destroys him the void twirls around him, soothing him, seeping into him. Danny dies with the universe in his lungs, drowning in it. And for a moment he and the universe is one.

Except, he didn’t die. Not really. Not fully.

The portal spits him out, right into the waiting arms of his crying and screaming friends. They fuss over him and in a moment Danny will turn to them, feeling guilty for scaring them so, and grateful to have them by his side, to have returned to them. But for now, his green eyes glittering with thousands of stars are fixed on the portal. On the space between two worlds. Both. Neither. On the space he, for just a fraction of a second, felt at home in. Felt like one with.

And the green void glittering with stars stares back. Ancient. Patient. Waiting.

Chapter 1

The Apple Doesn't Fall Far From The Tree

Maddie Fenton was a lot of things. A scientist and a genius. A mother and a wife. A Fenton, and an Al Ghul. Not that that fact was public knowledge. Escaping the League was nearly impossible. She had to create a whole new identity to get away, and still needed help from the outside. She was lucky that she met Jack when she did. The man was easy to love and didn't judge her for her past.

Needless to say, Maddie lived every day looking over her shoulder, waiting for the time when her past would catch up with her. When she noticed a shadow following her as she drove Jazz to school one Wednesday, she knew her luck had run out.

After she dropped Jasmine off at school she headed to a local park. There were a few families with young children on the playground, but most of the park was empty, the ominous storm clouds driving most people inside. Maddie started on the walking trail before turning onto a lesser-used hiking trail. It didn't take long for the shadows to catch up with her. The trail curved around a bend deep in the woods, far enough from the main trail that no one could see. No witnesses. No one to stumble across the coming confrontation. Exactly how she had always done it.

The dagger thrown at her heart was expected, so she was able to quickly duck out of the way of it. The eight-year-old that knocked her legs out from under her and put a blade to her throat was a surprise.

"You've lost your edge, Adeline," Talia said, stepping out of the shadow of a large oak tree. She looked her up and down, like an entomologist studying an interesting bug. "It's good to see you, sister."

"I wish I could say the same, Talia." Maddie ground out. "And it's not Adeline anymore."

"Yes, it's Madeline now, isn't it? You never were good at crafting identities." Talia said. "You seem to be doing well for yourself, since betraying Father. Married an idiot and lost your sense of fashion. Your daughter is cute, though."

Maddie wanted to strangle her sister, but the child assassin still had a knife held firm against her windpipe. "Don't touch Jazz."

Talia crouched in front of Maddie and looked into her eyes. "What would you do to keep your child safe, Addy? Would you betray everyone you love?"

The question took her off guard, but the answer was easy "Without hesitation."

"Then know, sister, that I would do the same for mine. Danyal, release her." Talia said with a wave of her hand.

The boy, Danyal, hesitated for just a moment before complying, disappearing the knife into the folds of his black assassin garb. He took a step back, towards Talia, and stood much more still than a boy his age should. He observed her with intelligent ice blue eyes. It was more than a little unnerving.

"This is my son, Danyal Al Ghul Ibn Al Xu'ffasch. I need you to take care of him." Talia rested a hand on the boy's shoulder, but he didn't relax his stance at all. If anything the contact caused him to tense further.

"Ibn Al Xu'ffasch? The detective?! You slept with the detective?" Maddie asked in disbelief as she stood and brushed dirt from her jumpsuit.

"I nearly married the detective; sister. Will you take him?"

Maddie sighed and looked over at the boy. He hadn't so much as spoke since he appeared. Maddie wondered if that was something trained into him. "What will happen if I say no?"

"Father will take care of him." There was something in Talia's voice as she spoke. Maddie knew exactly how Ra's Al Ghul would take care of the boy.

"Okay. I will take him." Maddie said. She didn't have much of a choice, she couldn't allow the boy to die, and Talia always got her way in the end.

Talia didn't smile or show any outward sign of relief beyond relaxing her stance a little. She nodded and crouched down in front of the child and spoke quickly and quietly in Arabic. The boy nodded once, face grave before Talia stood again. "I won't forget what you have done for me, sister." And with those parting words, she was gone, disappeared into the woods.

Maddie watched as the boy, as Danyal, picked at his soft pretzel. Talia had dropped the boy off with nothing. He didn't have a change of clothes, or a blanket or anything, so their first stop had been the mall. Danyal followed her around, a few steps behind and a little to the left as she shopped. She hadn't even been able to get him to pick anything for himself. He just nodded or shrugged at every option. It had been hours since Talia had left, and he still hadn't said a word.

Maddie knew the kind of training Danyal had likely been out through. She had grown up under her Father's thumb, she knew the expectations he had for his children. It was hard to imagine such a quiet, almost meek boy was a killer, but she saw it in the way his eyes flicked around the room, in the set of his shoulders, and the steel in his eyes.

"Danyal." Blue eyes, harder than any child's ought to be snapped to her, alert and cautious. "I have to go get my daughter from school. Are you okay meeting her, or would you like me to drop you off with Jack?" Danyal searched her face for a few moments, for what she couldn't fathom before he shrugged and dropped his gaze back to the untouched pretzel. She didn't sigh, but it was a close thing. "Okay. We will go to the school together."

Danyal lay back on the bed. He had been given his own room, his own bed. He had his own bed before, but he always ended up in Damian's bed, anyway. He pulled the blanket up over his shoulder and longed for the warmth that his twin put out. His brother was like a furnace, creating enough warmth for the both of them. The nights in the desert were always so cold.

He didn't understand why he was still alive. He failed Grandfather's test. Mother had promised to "take care of it". Everyone knew what that meant. But she had brought him here, to her sister. He had expected Madeline to kill him. He could understand Mother not wanting to kill her son, so someone else would have to do it. But Madeline hadn't killed him. She had bought him western clothes and fed him, even let him meet her daughter and husband. If she was going to kill him, surely she would have done it in the woods. Right?

Danyal heard footsteps coming up the stairs and listened closely. Light, small steps. Jasmine. Jazz. She wants to be called Jazz. The footsteps hesitated for a moment outside of his door before continuing down the hall. He didn't relax until he heard Jazz's door open and shut again.

Jazz was not what he had been expecting from Adeline's daughter. She was bright, observant, but also kind. She had spent the entire time from when they had picked her up from school until he had left to go to bed bouncing between asking him questions and telling her parents stories about her day. He had watched, fascinated as Jazz told a story about correcting a teacher on some small fact, and Adeline smiled and asked questions. Mother never allowed conversations without purpose, and Grandfather never permitted them to speak without being spoken to first.

Danyal sat up in bed and put his feet on the cold floor. He wasn't sure what the rules were for leaving your quarters after lights out, but he wasn't told not to. He had to get out of this room. The bed was too soft, and he was too cold. Maybe Adeline had some tea he could make. He crept out the bedroom door and down the stairs silently but stopped just outside the kitchen. There were voices.

"I don't know what we are going to do, Jack. Do you think it's safe for him to be here?"

"Mads, we're Fentons. There isn't anything we can't handle." Jack said, voice full of fool's confidence.

"Assassins, Jack. We can't handle assassins." Madeline said, "If he wanted to take us out, there isn't anything that would stop him."

Danyal felt his heart drop into his stomach. He wanted to deny the accusation, but he knew. He had a body count. He took his first life at four. If he wanted to, he could take out the Fentons, easy. Part of him had been cataloging weaknesses all day, planning.

He slowly backed away from the kitchen and up the stairs on silent feet. Back in his room he pulled the blanket off the bed but didn't lay down. Instead, he lay on the floor under the window. If he lay just right he could see the stars. Not as many as back home, but the ones he could see were familiar. He picked out Algol from the Perseus constellation. It had always been his favorite. Grandfather disapproved of stargazing, but he had taught them how to navigate by the stars. Mother was a little more lenient. She would tell them stories about the stars. Damian was never that interested in them, but Danyal had always been fascinated.

And the Fentons? He wasn't sure, but they seemed to let Jazz pursue her own interests. Maybe, if he's good. If he shows them he isn't a threat to them. Maybe they will let him look at the stars. Maybe if he's good he won't be sent back to Grandfather.

With one final look at Algol, Danyal made a decision. He was going to be on his best behavior. He'd keep up with his training, plus whatever additional training the Fentons asked him to do, and he'd do it without complaint. He'd show them that he wasn't a threat to them. As long as he got to look at the stars sometimes, he could make it work here.

Maddie woke up early the next morning. Jazz was already up brushing her teeth in the bathroom. "Good morning, Jazz. How did you sleep?"

"Better than Daniel. He's been up since three." She said just a little bit irritated. "I could hear him moving around in his room all morning."

"I'll check on him." She said, leaving the bathroom and heading across the hall to Danyal's room. She knocked once before opening the door and was met with the sight of her nephew running through a sword routine. He was good, but she was surprised by his choice of weapon.

"Is that your primary weapon?" She asked.

Danyal didn't jump or react to the question in any way, just swiftly moved to the next form. After a moment he let out a quiet "Yes, Aunt Madeline."

"It's unusual to see a wakizashi without its katana." Danyal's grip on the blade tightened but he didn't say anything. "I don't think I've seen anyone use one as a primary weapon."

Danyal sheathed the short sword and turned to face her. "It belonged to Grandfather. He gave it to me after my first mission."

Her heart broke. She knew what kind of 'mission' her father was likely to send a child on. She hated to see another child go through what she had. "Can I see it?" Danyal nodded and held the weapon out, flat on his plans for her to take. She examined the sheath, a glossy black wood with black rope bindings and a silver guard and collar. She pulled the weapon out of its sheath and glanced down the length of the blade. "I remember this weapon." She said, "Father used to carry it and the matching katana around everywhere when I was small. I'm surprised to see him part with it." She held the weapon out to Danyal, who took it with thanks.

"May I take a shower?" He asked quietly.

"Of course, you may." Danyal nodded and brushed past her to the bathroom and she headed downstairs. Jazz was already in the kitchen, a pot of fresh coffee brewing and pancake batter ready to go. Maddie took over cooking breakfast for her daughter and Jazz took a seat at the table.

"What did you mean?" She asked after several minutes of silence.

"What did I mean by what?"

"About Danyal's weapon being an unusual choice."

Maddie paused for a second. She hadn't been aware that Jazz was listening to the conversation. "Danyal's weapon is called a wakizashi. It was a backup weapon used by Samurai with the katana. They usually are used as a pair, but if someone had to choose one or the other, they'd usually go for the katana. It's longer, so you can keep a better distance while fighting. The wakizashi is for more close combat, which most people try to avoid." Maddie placed a plate of pancakes in the center of the table while Jazz thought over that information.

"You said the katana and the wakizashi come in sets?" She asked, putting a pancake on her plate.

"Yes, it's called daisho, big and little."

"Who has the katana, then?" Jazz wondered out loud.

Maddie wondered as well. She heard the water shut off upstairs, but no footsteps. That wasn't surprising. No one trained by Ra's Al Ghul made noise unless they wanted to be heard. It wasn't long before Danyal joined them in the kitchen, dressed in the new jeans and one of the t-shirts she had gotten him the day before. The short sword was looking out of place hanging from his belt.

"Good morning," Jazz greeted him brightly. "Pancakes?"

"Yes, thank you." He said, seating himself at the table.

Jack came down soon after, loud and boisterous as always. "Morning, Maddie, Jazzy, Danny. How'd you sleep?"

Danyal seemed surprised, whether it was because of the nickname, or because of the direct question, it was hard to say, but he managed a quiet "Very well, thank you." Before returning to his breakfast.

The meal passed with energetic conversation. Maddie tried to involve Danyal, but only managed to get a few words out of him. After breakfast, Jack drove Jazz to school and she and Danyal cleared up the dishes. She washed, and he dried. They worked in silence for a while. As she was passing him the skillet she caught sight of his hands and had to stop herself from gasping. The tip of his left pinkie finger had been amputated at the last joint.

"Danyal, what happened to your finger?"

The boy curled his left hand into a fist, effectively hiding the digit. How had she not noticed that before?

"I…questioned Grandfather's authority when I was small." He said haltingly. "Grandfather required penance."

"Penance? He cut off your finger for penance?"

"No. Penance means nothing if it is taken. It must be given." He said it as if it were a fact. Like being made to remove body parts in payment for failure was a normal thing. The thought made her sick to her stomach. Somehow the years away had made her forget her Father's cruelty.

"Danyal. That isn't okay." He looked at her with that surprise again. The same look he had given Jack when he asked how he'd slept. No one had asked this child how he'd slept. No one had told this child it wasn't okay to be forced to remove body parts for any reason. Madeline came to two conclusions at that moment: one, Danyal Al Ghul was her son now. And two, any assassins Ra's Al Ghul would send would meet her full wrath.

My Dad is from Mars

Okay so when j’onn met danny he was John jones. He was doing some grocery shopping when a young teen with a limp bumped into him, stealing his wallet.

John grabbed the teens arm to stop him and retrieve his wallet when his hand went through through the boys arm. John saw the scared look on the child as he took off, John pursued the child running through walls and watched in concern as the child appeared to be a Martian like himself. He stopped an alley where he witnessed the teen fall to the ground and simply vanish.

John then said how he was impressed at his camouflage skill considering how young he is and that he has no intention of hurting him he just wants to help him get home to which the child was NOT HAPPY screaming how he can’t go back there he won’t. The child is barely able to stand when his camouflage drops, j’onn sees the green and red blood coating his shirt where his jacket opens.

He looks to make sure no one is looking before shifting back into his Martian form and kneeling in front of the child. In the Martian language he tells the boy that he is only here to help if he will let him

He replies in perfect Martian you’re not a hunter, j’onn freezes at the knowledge that a Martian child is being hunted and is filled with icy rage. He calmly replies that no he’s not he’s a friend. The child reaches for him before fully passing out. J’onn takes him back to his apartment where he tends to his wounds. He is further infuriated when he sees the y shaped incision on his chest. He vows that this child is under his protection.

However not everything is as it seemed. When Danny woke up he was in a bed and his wounds had been dressed. It hurt to move but much less so than before. When he heard movement he panicked until he turned and saw the coolest superhero to ever live

MARTIAN MANHUNTER who just so happens to be anACTUAL martian from MARS. Danny just stare at him in awe. He can barely speak and the hero brings him some water and begins to softly ask how he came to be so far from mars and at such a young age and Danny just stares at him for a second before he just says I’m from earth, I’m human- kinda

J’onn is clearly confused. And asks if he’s a meta when Danny says no, he asks if he would be willing to explain Danny made him swear not to tell anyone, because how could he say no to Martian manhunter. He explains that he’s half ghost and how his parents were ghost hunters and when they found out he was a ghost they turned on him. They took him to the GIW where they… and at this point he cuts himself off with a terrified look on his face. J’onn places a hand on his shoulder and tells him he is safe here for however long he wishes to stay. Danny doesn’t believe him at first until he explains that when he came to earth he was also hunted for being different.

Danny is incredibly grateful and accepts the offer with the intention of leaving as soon as he is healed . A month goes by and Danny is healed he is hesitant to leave. One month turns to two and two to three and before they knew it they were moving into a bigger apartment so Danny could have his own room when J’onn asked Danny if he would like to be his son Danny nearly cried as he said yes (Bruce took care of the paperwork, he knows it like the back of his hand) not long after though Danny got sick and it wasn’t until j’onn was visited by a ghost with a clock in his chest that they realized it was because his core was sick and so they both travel to the ghost zone where J’onn learns more about ghosts as well as learning that he is apparently a grandfather, that was fun. Danny also found out he was going to be king that was less fun

They set up a schedule of days Danny would spend in the zone with clockwork learning about ghost politics and when he was on earth he would be homeschooled by J’onn, Danny’s favorite part is when J’onn would talk about mars and traveling amoung the stars.

It’s just before his 15th birthday that J’onn announces that they were going to visit mars Danny almost exploded he was so excited the whole flight there and when he arrived he met his half white martian cousins M’gann and him got along like a house on fire. He was sad when they had to leave and there were many promises to visit. Unbeknownst to them they had a stowaway on the ship. Both Danny and J’onn scolded m’gonn fpr running away from home but he was still happy to have his cousin on earth. She trained with her uncle to be a hero she often questioned Danny about why he didn’t want to train as well, because after 1 unwanted advance from a human when he was near and it was clear he could fight. He would always make a joke out of it and dodge the question. Eventually she stopped asking.

One thing that was made abundantly clear after moving in was the fact that her cousin is terrifying. Absolutely bone chilling and not always on purpose sometimes he was just so …. Still, quiet, unnerving. She started getting used to it and her uncle is immune at this point but she will never fully be immune. And there was one indisputable rule she was not allowed to use telepathy on Danny no matter what.

When M’gann joins her team she texts Danny about them all the time, he is well aware of her crush on Conner and he feels secure in the knowledge he could crush him if he hurt her. she doesn’t really talk about Danny much because he’s pretty private.

The first time the team meets Danny it is a call to arms sent by M’gann. On the night of the Halloween party. M’gann decided to call in back up to help them get back at the kid who was trying to prank everyone as well as give everyone a good scare. Danny arrives though no one actually saw him arrive but he most definitely made an impact. Years later the school would be call it the best scare of the century.

When they head back to the base they find Danny already there he runs picks M’gann up and spins around and gives her a hug and just as she is about to introduce him the zeta tube activates announcing Martian Manhunter, he asks if anyone would like to explain why there was an emergency call from a student from their school reporting that the dead have risen and are coming to take their bloody revenge? Danny,who had hidden behind Conner peaked out and says yeah sorry about that, that was me. J’onn gives him a look and Danny shoots back c’mon dad it was all in good fun, no one was hurt, and the kid was only SLIGHTLY traumatized. J’onn is not amused. M’gann is trying to hide her laugh Conner is relieved that he’s not a rival and Wally, well Wally was in shock because when did the Martian manhunter get a son?!?

Okay I feel like this is a good stopping point for now cus I need sleep, I’m gonna add more later,

An observation.

Concept that I feel hasn’t been tapped into with dp x dc:

John Constantine begrudgingly being pals with Danny Phantom. When Danny was just barley ghost king, John summons him in some way to loophole his way out of another deal with a different entity he’s made a contract with. Ya know, a good ol “I’ll sell my soul to multiple entities so they can’t claim my soul or else start a war fighting for it and instead make myself unable to die” for the nth time. Danny doesn’t accept because the concept of owning someone’s soul as unnerving and not morally correct but helps John in whatever situation is needed and John is just bamboozled because he didn’t need to con and loophole his way out of whatever situation he was in and this strange ghost boy is doing it willingly and only asks to stop for some fast food after the fight as payment.

This is the start of a whole bunch of wild circumstances that make John Constantine summon/meet up with phantom to fix some dark magic shenanigans because Danny is one hell of a powerful entity and he doesn’t worry about having to owe back Danny in favors or debts that are magically binding which is a really nice change of pace.

Personally I imagine the vibe that the fandom has decided John and Billy Batson dynamic is like: A Concerned and frankly pitiful attempt of a parental figure with a kid who’s powerful enough to end the world if they felt like it. Added onto that is John freaking out because ‘why did the universe give this freaking child so much power holy shit oh god this could end absolutely terribly what the hell do I do’

Just Constantine and Danny combatting and stopping demons and curses of the hellish variety and just slowly meeting the magic users of the Justice League before meeting everyone as a gradual set up of Constantine, Justice League member, & Danny, stopping smaller arcane based entities/artifacts from causing damage to the world. Ending in Danny meeting the entire Justice League and stopping an insane threat and letting everyone really know just how powerful he is.

DP x DC prompt where Danny winds up in Gotham and, after expressing that he’s all alone and just wandering the city aimlessly, he finds himself adopted by Bruce– as Phantom. 

Because if you’ve already adopted a bunch of kids, why not throw a ghost into the mix?

Danny just goes along with it, nervous but not really having any other options. If Bruce Wayne wants to adopt a ghost and feed him, why not humor the man? If they figure out he’s not actually a full ghost, he can always skip town and they’ll never see him again.

Only… Danny’s not sure how he keeps up the charade as long as he does. The moment he finds out he’s not only been adopted by Bruce Wayne, but the Batman, Danny’s just waiting for the inevitable. Surely, Batman will eventually find out who he is.

But it just… doesn’t happen. The family doesn’t really have any reason to assume that a ghost is somehow still alive. They assumed he might be a meta at first, but the kid literally has no pulse and doesn’t breathe. And sure, Danny disappears sometimes (to sleep) and it’s a little weird he eats– but he also speaks in tongues and can fly through the ceiling, so what do they know? Constantine’s been no help, claiming he “doesn’t want to touch this situation with a ten foot pole”, so they’re just sort of figuring out ghost brother shenanigans on the fly. 

They’re more curious who Danny was while living, but (due to a mixture of ghostly interference in Amity, Tucker purging files, the GIW fucking with Amity Park’s exposure to the outside world, and Danny giving them no answers), the bats haven’t been able to find jackshit about Phantom and it’s a bit of a sore spot where egos are concerned. There’s a secret race going on to find info on Phantom first. Danny is aware of it and thinks it’s very endearing and funny. He also desperately wants one of them to succeed already.

The longer it takes for them to (not) figure it out, Danny gets more and more annoyed. At the very start he wanted to keep his identity a secret– new place, new people, how was he supposed to know how they’d react?– but he quickly grew enamored with the family and now trusts them. Besides, they’ve already accepted him as a ghost so, really, what’s there to lose? He’s pretty sure one of his new brothers is like ¼ ghost anyway.

Now Danny’s just been waiting– begging– for them to figure it out. He could just tell them. It would be so easy, but god he’s so committed to this now. Why is this taking so long.

It really starts to come to a head once the family develops non-ghost related nicknames for Danny. Jason in particular likes to joke about how Danny has severely broken the “blue-eyed, black-haired” mold and gives him nicknames like “Wildcard”, “Dove”, and “Uno Reverse”. 

Danny is about ready to snap.

One day, a few of them are about to head out on a mission and Danny asks to tag along. Jason jokingly says, “Sorry Dove, black hair club only.”

Danny just transforms on the spot, keeping his face comically neutral (as much as he can while watching his new family have a collective breakdown.)
