Currently having Sad Thoughts about Nice and Smile, because after seeing how much Smile low-key coddles X (carrying him to the bed, tucking him in under the blanket, pausing to smile fondly at him before closing the door), someone who is CLEARLY older than Nice...

... Just. This man is a Father. He is a Dad. He is full of paternal hormones and doesn't get to spend them on his daughter, so he just adopts everyone around him. He is the one imprinting on literally anyone slightly younger than him, not the other day around.

So imagine this man seeing this absolute BABY of a hero, smiling awkwardly at the photoshoot, like a kid on their first day of school, all big blue eyes and shiny new clothes.

When I tell you his parental instincts must have TRIGGERED. That is a Young Man in need of Advice and Support at his New Job and it's Smile's Duty, as his Senior, to provide it.

What I mean to say is that, seeing that very same awkward young man - who smiled at him so full of hope, clutching a strange device in his hands and with those big blue eyes wide open, looking absolutely TERRIFIED - I don't think he would feel betrayed. I don't think he would feel hurt, or angry.

I think he would see that young man again, so unsure of himself and helpless in this unfair world, and would want to protect him and give him hope. Because that's a kid, and Smile is a Dad, and no parent wants to see a child hurt.
