Mission 1: Recruitment
Skye let Molly take it all in, giving her some time just to think over what had been said. It was a rush of information to get in one go - but Skye thought that was her best way to get through to Molly. Be up front, get the main points in the open first of all and then go into specifics. Molly was smart, of that the Agent was sure. She’d ask good questions and get to the route of the matter. And Skye knew it was therefore going to be wise on her part to answer truthfully, giving whatever details she could give out without Molly yet being a part of the S.H.I.E.L.D. team. She smiled over at Molly as she looked back across at her.
The questions came in a rush, which wasn’t surprising. But it did mean Skye had to take a moment to think over what had actually been asked. “Right, let’s see… First of all, let me just say this: I’ve read what little information S.H.I.E.L.D. has on you. They’ve always liked to keep track of mutants, any one with powers. So far… No one has wanted to come and approach you. Other things have been going on. I know about your past. Your origin story, so to speak.” Skye grinned, then cleared her throat and continued. “Anyway, I get it. I get why you wouldn’t trust authority figures. I’ve been there myself.” She sat back in her seat, running a hand through her hair. “Ugh. And that’s something everyone says, isn’t it? What I mean is… I was an orphan. Still am, in a way - but that’s complicated, I don’t need to get into that now. I know how it feels to be without your parents and travelling a lot. I also know what it’s like to have evil parents - I found that out about my parents not that long ago. For years I was so distrustful of everyone. Foster parents, school teachers - anyone who had the power to tell me what to do. I resented it and channelled my anger in the wrong direction. Not everyone with authority is evil. What the news says about S.H.I.E.L.D.? Sure, it’s not all wrong - but most is.”
“Do you know what S.H.I.E.L.D.’s purpose is? It’s to protect. Everyone - people with powers and those without. Which is why someone put in way too much effort to make the initials spell shield.” She rolled her eyes, then grinned. The grin faded a little, becoming a soft smile as she continued. “Molly, I know you won’t trust the agency quickly. But they won’t hurt you. That’s my promise to you. This group is a sub-section of S.H.I.E.L.D.. I’m an agent after all, and in a way you would be too. But we’re going to have a lot of independence. We’ll be running ourselves, calling the shots, deciding what missions to go on. We’ll be seeking out other gifted people - telling them about their powers, training them. If they want to leave after that? Sure. We’ll have a few files on them - but we’re not going to be tagging them or anything like that.”
She smiled bright now. “And I think you’d be an awesome member of your team. Dude, you could beat up the Hulk. And man, I laughed for ages when I heard you’ve punched Wolverine. Twice. You have a lot of power, and by now you probably know how to use it. Let me help hone that. I can give you.. well, a home. A place to be. A team to be a part of.”
Molly listened carefully, narrowing her eyebrows as Skye spoke. She knew more than Molly had bargained for, but at least she wasn’t judging her or getting her to talk about her past experiences. Not just yet. And it was intriguing to hear that the brunette had had somewhat similar experiences as her. What she was saying was a little confusing though. “I get it. People think I don’t, but I know that not every adult is evil. Most are, however. From my experiences at least. Maybe I just have really bad luck. My parents... They were just the start of it.” She sighed, taking of her hat and placing it on the table in front of her. She ran a hand through her hair, looking at Skye as she continued. “Travelling was always interesting. I loved that part. But... Being on the run is tiring.”
Taking in a deep breath, she shook her head at Skyes question. S.H.I.E.L.D.’s purpose was beyond her. She nodded at the answer though. “Protecting people. Great. That sounds good. But wasn’t it all filled up with hydro-stuff. What is that, like water freaks? I don’t even-- I dunno, I wasn’t paying attention to be honest. But it was evil people. Which kind of proves my point in a way.” She shrugged, taking another drink of her lemonade. “I’d be an agent?” That caught her of guard. “Seriously?” Now that would be cool. And it’d be super awesome to be part of a team once again. She missed that. She needed that. But still, S.H.I.E.L.D. was an unknown variable in her life. A variable that had evil people in it. Or had at one point. “I guess... I mean, that does sound good. I want to help people.”
“When we first ran away. Thats what we wanted to do. Protect people, rescue them - make up for our families misdeeds. My friends ad I tried to do good. And I think we did, now and then.” Finding others with powers and being able to help them was actually really good. It was a nice plan, and now more than ever it was needed. With the registration act coming up, people with powers needed all the friends and allies they could get.
Molly laughed at Skyes assessment, grinning brightly for the first time in their conversation. “Oh, I could so take on the Hulk. Never tried that yet, but I think I could manage that. Mhm. Wolverine was easy to take out - he keeps forgetting who I am, and I guess he doesn’t think much of my powers at times. It’s pretty fun.” She sighed, her grin fading - but only slightly. “I guess.... What you’re offering does sound good. It’s interesting at the very least.”
