R.I.P Harry Anderson
Magician/actor/comic Harry Anderson has passed away. He was best known as the eccentric, magic-loving Judge Harry Stone on Night Court. Anderson started his showbiz career as a street magician, which eventually led to him performing his tricks on variety TV series like The Mike Douglas Show, The Late Show With David Letterman, and Saturday Night Live. His prestidigitation landed him a role on Cheers as lovable conman Harry “The Hat” Gittes, which in turn got him the Night Court lead that would make him a household name. Anderson’s quirky humor and mastery of magic shine in almost all of his performances. Anderson also had a few macabre achievements to his name. His version of “Needle Through Arm” is still the go-to trick for any magician who wants to add something ghastly to their act. He also had a prominent role in the the original IT miniseries as the adult Richie Tozier. Harry would also go on to work on two different Tales From the Crypt episodes, one as an actor and the other as a screenwriter. The episode he wrote showcases his fascination with cons and deception. Harry Anderson was a favorite of this site. We are deeply saddened by his passing and our hearts go out to his family. Thank you for all the magic moments, Mr. Anderson.

I share this because I dreamed about Harry Anderson last night, and it made me miss him so much.
I wish we could quit the self blaming language around mental illness. I’m constantly seeing “positivity” posts saying “don’t let your mental illness stop you”, “don’t let your mental illness consume you”, “don’t let your mental illness limit you”, etc, and I hate it because it places blame on the mentally ill person for being affected by their mental illness. Truth is, if your mental illness is currently stopping you, consuming you and limiting you that’s not on you. You’re doing your best and that’s okay no matter what your best currently looks like. You’re not a failure if your mental illness is affecting your life/ability to function - that’s actually one of the requirements for being diagnosed with a mental illness. It’s not your fault. It’s not on you. I promise.

why is it always the woman who has to see past the beast in the man? [x]
Stop reducing native issues to “they had their land taken”.
Our sisters are still murdered and missing. Our children go hungry and cold. Our elders can’t afford health care. Our parents suffer from untreated mental illness and have addictions because they self medicate.
And thats not even on the reservations. Thats just in farming communities of the Lumbee. And we are doing well by comparison to other groups.
Stop reducing us to stolen land and erasing our real struggles.
Natives have the highest suicide rates. Natives have the most unsafe school conditions. 75% of sex trafficking victims in Canada are First Nations. Natives are the most likely to be shot by police according to some studies and just as likely to be shot as black brothers and sisters according to others. Half of the homes on reservations in the US are legally deemed “uninhabitable” despite families and children living in them. Non native people can still commit crimes against us and not even be tried under native law, usually meaning not at all. Reservations flood often, they are stricken with drought. Most urban native kids carry the weight of being the only native their classmates and other townspeople will ever know. There are no college classes for us or about us. We are struggling, y'all. We have had our land, languages, and family ripped from us, it’s more than just history, it’s 500+ years of ongoing genocide.
Straight men are fucking babies, pass it on.
Has anyone ever taken a pad or tampon out into the light of day only to have boys and grown men back five feet away? This shit is tip of the stigma iceberg that women experience for simply menstruating. How many of those products in the image can cause toxic shock or infections? How expensive are those products? How often do they need to be bought/replaced? These are real issues that affect our health, finances, and social/internalized perceptions of ourselves. Men absolutely REFUSE to acknowledge us for our biology when it’s not sexually appealing to them. They refuse to consider our mental and physiological health, and mock and silence us when we try to talk about it.
Not to mention the own stigma women have against it. My own mother dropped a tampon in a parking lot and nearly had a panic attack because she was worried someone had seen it. My mom, who has been married 20 years, raised me to be a feminist, escaped an abusive relationship and a life of drugs, who has raised two children while working a full time job, is embarrassed about having a period. If that isn’t fucked up then I don’t know what is. Men have literally made women hate themselves because of something so amazing. Our bodies are incredible and just because men don’t find it sexually attractive, means that it must be scorned. Never be embarrassed about your period because it only proves their ignorance.

As per tradition, I share this song on the first day of spring, and I shall, always.
ALWAYS.
I’m a grown-ass woman, and my crush on Stephen Colbert continues.

nice job.
I really don’t know what ‘I love you’ means
I think it means ‘don’t leave me here alone.’
