Beginnings are exciting, here is what's happened so far:
- Saturday (January 3rd): Left the US at 6:30PM on a Delta Flight. It was really nice! I was sitting behind a Notre Dame alumni, so I talked to her a bit. After busy packing and saying goodbye for days, it was nice to just have time to relax and watch movies (The Fault in Our Stars in French, Julie and Julia, and 4 episodes of Once Upon a Time) and have people deliver me food! Unfortunately, I didn't get any sleep.
- Sunday (January 4th): My flight arrived an hour early and I waited for my friend Michael's plane to land. Once it did, we took the RER together to the Fondation des Etats Unis. There was a bit of mix up when we got there and for ten scary minutes, we were very worried that we were going to be homeless. Luckily, we got temporary rooms! I took a 4 hour nap and woke up. Around 6pm, we decided to go get dinner. We started walking around, but it was hard to find a restaurant that looked good, so we ended walking to Monparnasse before we found anything we liked. We ended up eating at this cute little restaurant. After, I wanted a glimpse of the Tour Eiffel. It didn't take long to find it, but it looked way closer than it was, so we decided to walk to it- which ended up taking another hour. After watching it light up, we walked along the Seine, till we got to les Invalids, then we ended up walking back. In total we walked for 12 miles and it look 6 hours.
- Monday (January 5th): My other friend Jessica arrived this morning. We got coffee, metro passes, cite u student cards, and lunch. Then we had to change rooms into our new permanent ones. Mine is really big and has BARELY a view of the Eiffel Tower, but also a park and the Tour Monparnasse. We went in the evening to go visit where the university we are attending is and we got dinner there. On the way back, we stopped and saw Notre Dame, got crepes, and went to Shakespeare and Company.
- Tuesday (January 6th): We went back to the Eiffel Tower in the morning, because Jessica has never seen it. Then we met up with some other Notre Dame students studying in Rome, but visiting in Paris, at the Rue Mouffetard to get crepes. Then we found this little book shop and got French copies of American books to read on the metro. I got Harry Potter! Then we went to our university to pay for social security and go to a meeting for foreign exchange students. It was fun to meet other students who will also be studying with us, but it was surprising to find out we are the only new Americans semester. After we stopped off to do some shopping, then we cooked our first dinner together- pasta with olive oil, jambon, and mushrooms with salad, bread, and wine- delicious! We also made more friends by hanging out in the kitchen. After we watched The Hunchback of Notre Dame together.
Basically, life in Paris the coolest thing ever!
