Hey so if you think the problem with the GLP-1 conversation is fat people trying to point out that we’ve been forcibly pushed back to early 2000s level diet culture and all of the very real consequences that has on our daily lives, rather than the absolutely inescapable marketing campaign we’ve all been subjected to the last few years that explicitly has as a central message, “HOORAY NO MORE FAT PEOPLE” – that’s actually fatphobic as hell!
Literally no one is out here being actively anti-GLP-1s for all of the things it helps with that aren’t primary weight loss. GLP-1s are incredible and absolutely life-changing for many many people. The only reason that aspect isn’t the central argument we’re all hearing about them is because the absolute ghouls making money off these drugs don’t give a shit about helping people.
Griping about fat people trying to raise our hands and say, “hey we’d appreciate if there maybe wasn’t a very loud and pervasive marketing campaign essentially calling for our eradication” instead of joining us in pushing back against the very messaging that is causing stigmatization and otherwise standing in the way of people accessing life-changing medication is, once again, fatphobic as hell!
