One week left until we can read a new Cosmere novel! Felt like sharing this Mistborn illustration here. One of my dream gigs was making an interior illustration for the Spanish illustrated edition of The Well of Ascension by Brandon Sanderson, published by Nova (Penguin Random House) in 2021. This piece was commissioned by Dragonsteel, and it was simply amazing to work with them, and even get feedback from Sanderson himself! I still find it hard to believe it happened, sometimes...

And here are the preliminary sketches I did for the scene:

i'm thinking about that scene in woa when vin thoughtlessly scratched tensoon's ear and that it might have been the first time that a human, moreover, a master, had touched him gently.

like, he says, "i'm… not certain what i think of this experience, mistress" and it might be because he actually can't imagine being touched without cruelty or need (like vin picking him up to move).

and since it seems that kandras don't really interact physically with each other, vin might have been the first creature to touch tensoon gently at all

What TenSoon did to help Vin in the final fight with Zane shows a very important aspect of the concept of beliefs. TenSoon completely believed that he had to follow his Contract, and that he had to keep the secret of how Allomancers could control kandra a secret. That belief might be right or wrong; that is irrelevant. But when Vin was in danger, he sacrificed his beliefs to help her. Just like Kelsier genuinely believed all noblemen deserved to suffer for how they had treated the skaa for a thousand years; yet, when he saw Elend in danger of being killed by the Inquisitor, he chose to sacrifice his beliefs and save Elend because his death would cause Vin pain.

It is never too late to change your beliefs. But the easiest way to do it is when the life or happiness of someone you love is at stake.

The funniest love triangle in fiction happened in The Well of Ascension, the second Mistborn book, where Zane was like "[insert evil laugh here] I'm gonna torture my half-brother by making his girlfriend fall in love with me and force her to choose between us". Meanwhile Vin is just living her life and dealing with plot stuff and never gives any indication of harboring the barest romantic or even platonic feeling towards Zane, and when he finally makes his offer she's like "what the fuck dude of course I'm not picking you". The third point of the non-existent triangle, Elend, remains blissfully unaware of any of these events (including that he has a half-brother) because he's too busy dealing with other plot stuff. Anyway, kudos to Zane for inventing clowns in Scadrial

ive invented (note: dubious claim) something i call the bear diet which is mostly fruits and vegetables with fish as the main protein source and something like once a month you eat a few hyperprocessed foods of your liking because that is when you, the bear, raid a dumpster in the suburbs

If you dig down into the depths of my Instagram feed, you'll find that Mistborn was one of my very first papercraft inspirations, and it was lovely to have a chance to revisit it with this new rendition. But then to find out that they commissioned three different papercraft artists for this starter pack? 😱 How cool to be part of a little papercraft tribe for this project! 🙌 They're all so wonderful!

mistborn is so great cause u think this heist is gonna take like three books and then suddenly it’s not a heist and they’re overthrowing the government and ur like ok that’s what’s gonna last three books and then ur reading it and it’s moving way too fast and then the lord ruler is dead in the first book and u just resign urself to not be able to predict anything the rest of the series
