yall i fucking understand your mom's maiden name is most likely your grandfather's and relates to other male ancestors, like, you don't need to repeatedly act like that's something i'm unaware of when i give advice to connect back to your mom's maiden name. i was thinking of my cousin who goes by her father's name and her father who is an absolute piece of shit who stalks her and traumatized her. i think connecting to her mom's name and that side of the family is a better overall thing to want to connect with and go by than that. it's advice for women who don't like their fathers and want to connect to their mom's name, despite the name most likely coming from male ancestors, we can't exactly change the past here. connecting to your mother i think is important for many women and that's a way to do so. if anything, you can begin carrying that name down to your female descendents until it becomes your name once more. you can change your last name to whatever you like, you legally can do whatever you want with your name. a name is powerful, sure, but it's not immutable in what it can mean to you. just because it was passed down from male ancestors doesn't mean it's too late to have it be known as being passed down from female ancestors to your descendents like do you feel me.

Right now I’m watching The Lovely Bones, a film about a 14 year old girl who was kidnapped, raped, and murdered by a man in her neighborhood. Thankfully, the film does not show the rape like the book did, though it is implied. Now, the man wasn’t the typically probably a serial killer neighbor, not overtly scary or gross and sending off rapist vibes. He’s the nice, friendly, funny, sympathetic, man with the beautiful rose garden, the man who wouldn’t hurt a fly. A man Susie thought she could trust because he was nice to everyone, especially her and her sister. This man had killed and dismembered at least a dozen other girls before moving to their town. This man kept poor Susie’s chopped up remains in a safe in his basement. And all while seeming like Mr. Ned Flanders good guy.

Guys, if you ever wonder why women are extremely cautious of men, it’s because we grew up seeing girls like Susie on the news, on missing child posters. We heard the stories. Some of us may even have known a Susie and never saw her again. Some of us had close encounters and still think about how lucky we were that someone intervened or we made it home or away from him. You can’t tell by sight which man is going to be okay and which one is going to be a murderous rapist. Mr. Harvey looked on the surface like he was going to be okay, until he wasn’t. Hence, women and girls are cautious around you.

87% of homicides were committed by men. 98% of sexual assaults were committed by men. 83% of non-sexual assaults were committed by men. 90% of robberies were committed by men. 92% of abductions were committed by men.

That’s an FBI report from 2011. So, different year, different country and different agency. The stats there also don’t match what you said originally.

1918: Women over 30 who were members of or married to members of the Local Government Register.

1928: Women over 21 (in line with legislation for men).

We still have 6 years before we’ve had the vote for a century.

In Spain, women got the vote in 1933. But then it was prohibited again: the Franquist dictatorship started shortly after. They had to wait 41 years to gain it back. During the dictatorship, there were some referendums and similar stuff where citizens could vote, but only men were allowed to do it. When the dictatorship ended, women got to exercise their right to vote in the following elections, in 1977. My grandmother wasn't allowed to vote until she was 45. My own mother remembers it, she was 8 at the time.

I 100% support Amber. But, I'm finding it extremely frustrating to go into the tag for supporting Amber Heard and finding radfems/terfs. The enemy of my enemy is not my friend automatically and I hope people keep themselves from harmful rhetoric while supporting Amber. If we want to support abuse survivors and support women, then that includes trans women. The same radfems who are fighting against the disgusting misogyny directed at Amber would use the same disgusting behavior against Amber if she was transgender. I want Amber to have as much support as possible, but it's damaging if it is from terfs who tarnish her already-ruined PR.

seriously, maybe consider why you all are overwhelmingly seeing radfems talking about this. maybe it’s because we are the ones who actually dedicate ourselves to women’s issues? maybe it’s because we recognize sexual dimorphism and gender dynamics, and know that a man abusing a woman is much more physically dangerous? the claim that we would use the same misogyny directed at amber against a trans woman is a disgusting accusation given the events of this trial, considering the only “misogyny” we direct against trans women is telling them they are not a part of our activism for sex-based rights.
