Hey, new wheelchair users who are being warned about pressure sores, it's very serious and almost everyone will tell you check your ass and thighs.
And do.
But, depending on your body and mobility, don't forget to check behind your knees, your back and just under your shoulder blades (depending where your wheelchair back sits) and if you don't think of it often and avoid looking at them, your feet and ankles.
I have had the early stages in all of those areas during my worse flares and after the week I've had, I feel like I should warn y'all because they're painful for me at the 'rubbing and bruised starting to crack the first few layers of skin' stage, and you really don't want to deal with the issues that come after that.

to be clear this isnât some random change.org petition that doesnât matter, this is the formal proper way for EU citizens to influence what the EU commission discusses. if this gets enough signatures they HAVE to seriously consider how to implement universal basic income across the european union.

Without boots on ground they're just big targets with poor visibility. Rifles should aim for the periscopes, but most importantly the sight unit on top of the turret. Take down street signs. Don't let the enemy know where they are. Move signs to the wrong streets. Tanks are super heavy, so try to direct them to streets that can't hold their weight. They can't move if they break through to the sewer. Break the tracks if you have explosives. Tracks are also terrible for catching stuff like barbed wire/concertina wire. Line the streets with anything that can get sucked in and tangle up. The engine needs to breathe, so throw your molotov cocktails at whatever looks like an intake for the engine. It has rubber belts, hoses, and fuel lines. Tanks are a logistical nightmare. They need a supply chain a mile long for service parts, and especially fuel. They can usually only go about 300 miles on improved roads on one tank of fuel. Stop the supply line, and a tank is just a giant pile of useless iron. Visibility is rather poor from an armored vehicle. If you paint dinner plates to look like mines and set them upsode down in the street, the tank crew won't be able to tell if they're real or not. The U.S. ARMY likes to fight at night because we have thermal imagers. Thermal picks up heat, so you can not hide behind a bush, but anything that is ambient temperature just looks like a black square. They can't see through windows because the glass is ambient. Cut up cardboard boxes and put them everywhere. The cardboard is the same temperature as the environment. Hiding behind anything that obscures vision only works if they don't have thermal. Sheets of cardboard in every bush, tree, etc. Will just be a square in a thermal imager. Set them up everywhere as distractions. Make a chaos terrain for the enemy.â]
I was just told by guest services in target that service dogs in training are not required to be under control of the handler, and that my concerns about my safety and my SDâs safety were irrelevant despite the hound mix on a 20â long line was in training and that I canât make people leave if I donât like them.
The service dog in question? A barking and lunging hound mix on a long line that was trying to drag the handler to my dog. They had to be over 30â away from me before the dog calmed down. At no point was the dog closer than 10â to the handler. This dog was clearly not under verbal or physical control of the handler. I told the handler to please control their dog, and they told me my dog was doing the same thing (pulling) by preforming forward momentum pull, on a hands free leash, in a heel. But ok.
I called the location and told the staff member that the ADA requires the dogs to be under basic control of the handler and a dog lunging and pulling on a long line is not that. She said the dog is in training and I have to understand that training takes time and the dog is young. I said if a dog is lunging and barking at me, it is endangering me and my dog. If I have a cardiac event and my dog is too distracted to alert, I could fall and hit my head. On tile? That could be a concussion or worse. Itâs happened to me before. The representative hung up on me.
I called corporate immediately after and I think I heard the corporate equivalent of âoh god oh fuckâ. In under 2 minutes I was connected to a guest experiences manager who basically comped my purchase in gift cards and said they are very concerned about this behavior from their staff. I offered to provide educational materials to the store that educates them about their rights as employees and how to handle poorly behaved service dogs.
The gift cards are nice, but they donât fix the problem. I would rather be assured what steps will be taken to correct this in the future.
Service dog laws exist to prevent my dog from missing alerts by educating the public what may be disruptive to a dogâs ability to work.
When you fail to protect service dog laws, public spaces can become very unsafe for the disabled very quickly.
Please boost this, people need to understand that fake service dogs and untrained dogs presented as service dogs are dangerous to people who rely on task trained service dogs for their safety every day.

Moons, Holidays, and Retrogrades 2022
Figured I'd get a head start on this since I'm taking tonight's full moon as an opportunity to clean/cleanse my apartment, have a little wine, and update my calendar with witchy events through the end of next year. :>

In Uzbek we have this concept of the divine dark, the darkness from which all things came. So thereâs this idea that shows up in a lot of our literature that when the world was first made it was like a gentle night, peaceful, quiet and pitch-black. also, being an "inconvenience" is a valued and effective method of disability activism. one reason the ADA got passed at all was the capitol crawl where disabled people crawled up the steps of the capitol building and "inconvenienced" lawmakers. being an "inconvenience" is direct action. being an "inconvenience" is activism. people who actively deny disabled people rights and dignity are deserving of inconvenience, because you have rights and deserve to do whatever it takes to keep them. your life is worth more than the comfort of your oppressors.

I wish more people got this because some âlow-empathyâ people are the most compassionate and sympathetic in the universe, and I hate it when thatâs taken to mean âunfeeling and probably hostileâ when nothing could be further from the truth

Posts like this make me feel so much better. It always seems like society treat responses to others pain as though empathy is the most important kind. I am around 85% compassionate and this post helped me not feel like I am a monster because of that for once.

Atlanta Police Walkout In Protest Following Murder Charge Against Officer Who Shot Rayshard Brooks
The head of Atlantaâs police union confirmed Wednesday June 17th, 2020 that officers from the Atlanta Police Department in Zones 3 and 6 walked off the job Wednesday afternoon. Â
Vince Champion, southeast regional director of the International Brotherhood of Police officers, said that police officers had stopped answering calls midshift, in response to charges against Officer Garrett Rolfe who is accused of murdering Rayshard Brooks in Atlanta.
Police are doing what they call the BlueFlu:Â a strike action, especially among police officers, in which workers are absent on the pretext of âsicknessâ.

call me ignorant but i genuinely donât understand why sports have to be split up by gender.
@ everyone in the notes talking about physical performance: if that were the case, then sports would be divided by physical performance. thatâs a thing you can measure. thatâs a thing that varies by individual. a weak man and a strong man would be an unfair fight in boxing/wrestling/MMA, which is why they divide those sports up into weight groups based on physical performance. but they also further segregate them based on gender. chess is segregated by gender for no reason but sexism. if itâs actually about skill and physical ability, then measure those and separate people by those metrics. donât do some bullshit gender segregation and pretend like men and women are inherently on different levels no matter their individual abilities.
Remember that time a teenage girl struck out Babe Ruth? Thatâs fucking why. Men are afraid of being beaten by women.

also can we talk about how surfing is segregated as well? like how the dude who won this years international surfing cup or whatever was given $30,000 worth of prize money, while the woman who won the womenâs comp was only awarded like $16,000 of prize money???? or whatever it was. but I know it was either half or less than half of what the man won. like why canât they get the same prize money and when theyâre competing internationally in the same competition? they surely have the same level of skill and talent.
the pay gap in sports between men and women is fucking insane.
The pay gaps, not to mention lack of sponsorships for women athletes who donât look like models is insane. If you weigh over 250 pounds, no one will sponsor you. Itâs why most female Olympic-class weightlifters live in poverty/out of their cars.
Reminder that in international (and usually national too) womens athletics anybody with 5m/mol of natural testosterone or higher is disqualified. (See legal case of Dutee Chand vs IAAF.)
Do you or somebody you know have PCOS? You are banned from international womens athletics because you are supposedly in posession of an unreasonable advantage in sports.

Why are those disqualified overwhelmingly black and brown? Because testing is case by case when an athletes performance âraises suspicionsâ. They overwhelmingly test athletes of colour, for being too fast and not meeting white expectations of femininity.
Racism and intersexism(discrimination against intersex people) in sports is abject evil. Desegregate sports.
All of this.
The argument that âbiological differencesâ make coed sports unfair is bs, because then weâd be directly segregating by things like metabolism levels, testosterone levels, height and weight. Not sex. Take one example: Michael Phelps. He has an innately higher lung capacity (twice that of the average person) that gives him an advantage. A biological difference that gives him an unfair advantage. Technically, if physical differences are unfair, he should be disqualified.
