It was hot as balls out both days, of course. We caught a little sunburn on day one despite reapplying after three hours, so we were more diligent on the second day.
Saturday, I actually managed to still track my food for the day, but on Sunday, between phone signal issues and general chaos, I gave up. That said, there were some really good food options. Pictured is my lunch from day 1, which was curried chickpeas with rice and cabbage slaw. Actual veggies, whaaat?
Saturday, we got into the festival grounds around 11:00 after a long wait in the security line, and then when set times got posted, it turned out most of the bands I wanted to see would be playing Sunday.
We caught Bryce Vine as our first band, and then The Paradox on the next stage over, and from there my priority was Gym Class Heroes. Most of the other bands I had been interested in seeing (Third Eye Blind, Lolo, Honey Revenge) conflicted on timing with Gym Class, so they were out.
We ended up spending a lot of the day hanging out in the shade by the Unplugged stage, so we caught Water Tower, Larry and His Flask, and Bad Cop Bad Cop on acoustic sets, then shuffled over toward Gym Class and caught Anberlin in the process.
Knowing Sunday was going to be busier in terms of bands, we headed back to our hotel around 7 PM when GCH finished and ordered tacos for a late dinner.
We went out for breakfast on Sunday, so I was able to pack in an egg white omelet with veggies and fruit as a base. Getting inside went much more smoothly, and we even got to see the inflatable reveal for the day before popping over to the smaller stages to see The Dollyrots as a start for the day.
After that, we caught Vienna Vienna on the same stage, then took a break for lunch (chicken caesar wrap and doritos) before trying to get up close for The Academy Is... In the process, we got to see a little bit of American H-Fi's set and sing along with "Flavor of the Week."
After TAI, we had a conflict between 3oh!3 or Plain White T's and ended up deciding on the more mellow crowd and going toward the T's. I'm glad we did, since it seems like the 3oh!3 crowd was pretty bad -- I'm hearing multiple groping stories, including one involving a minor, and all of them happened at that show.
While we were waiting for PWTs, we saw part of the Hoobastank set, including "The Reason," so that was cool. Then, we beat feet across the grounds back to the small stages for Daisy Grenade. After another little break to cool off, we decided to split up. My partner went to see Coheed and Cambria, while I wanted to see Hot Chelle Rae.
I got a massive hot dog for dinner and caught the last few songs from Lambrini Girls, but then when Hot Chelle Rae came on, they kind of rubbed me the wrong way, and I didn't stay for long. Instead, I went back to the Unplugged tent and just saw PWTs again in their acoustic set, then met back up with my partner and went to the back of the crowd for Jimmy Eat World. They played "Bleed American," "The Middle," and "Sweetness" really early in the set, and there weren't any bands we wanted to see after them, so we left after a few songs and went back to the hotel.
Sunday obviously was a much more active and later day than Saturday.
We got up Monday morning and got checked out, and we made decent time driving home. I felt pretty good overall, not sore or anything, but just tired from not sleeping well/enough Sunday night. Took it easy Monday aside from some errands.
By yesterday morning, I felt normal and the weather was really nice. I ended up doing a solid 4k tempo run, felt good and got really good pacing at the end.
This whole week will be a little chaotic because my partner is traveling again tomorrow and I have my 10k race this weekend, so we skipped the gym this morning, but I ended up impulse signing up for the Bay Bridge 10k in Annapolis this November, so there's another milestone I'll be working toward this fall.
