Look I don't think Supergirl (2026) is secretly a perfect masterpiece or anything (I personally thought it was like. a 6/10 fun time) but I do think it's wild that Tumblr isn't going crazy for it because this Kara is one coattailed suit away from being a Tumblr sexyman. she is the flawed messy female character people have supposedly been clamouring for. she's the popular archetype of a gruff self-destructive alcoholic middle-aged man begrudgingly having to look after a kid and growing fond of them but genderswapped and also 23. she's allowed to be visibly messy and kind of gross and her hair is constantly all over the place and she literally cries, screams, throws up, and pisses onscreen. she's caustic and mean and puts up an act of carelessness but has a heart of gold. she's heavily traumatised and coping with it terribly. if anything happens to her dog she will kill everyone in this room and then herself. she spends most of the movie in a trench coat and baggy band T-shirt. she gets into bar brawls and breaks a guy's hand. she is Going Through It 24/7 and looks the part. she stabs a guy in the throat. how is everyone else not obsessed with her.
I think I might be about to send a deranged email
Couldn't find an email address so it was instead a deranged form submission
HUGE NEWS
oh so when john wick goes on a revenge killing spree to avenge his murdered dog, he’s an awesome action hero. but when kara zor el beats up and kills the child sex trafficker who poisoned her dog, she’s the worst most selfish awful mean person
Movie was great idgaf
I’m gonna need you all to get more obsessed with Supergirl 2026. It’s literally every single sarcastic, messy, depressed, grieving, male lead from recent media that accidentally adopts an angry, young girl (also grieving) which forces him to confront his self destructive behavior and realize the impact he can still make. But she’s a girl. This is the character you all love in every piece of media. I’m begging you all to adore her the same way.
It’s literally a genderbent version of “grumpy old man accidentally becomes a single dad” trope
Not gonna lie, when Kara stopped Ruthye from killing that guy, I was a little confused, mostly because Kara had definitely just killed a ton of guys literally seconds ago and now she draws the line at the guy in charge? Of course then it became clear as the scene continued on that Kara never cared about whether this guy lived or died. It was Ruthye she was trying to save. But that was true the whole movie, wasn't it? And when she stopped Ruthye from becoming a killer, only to take on the burden herself because that was the kindest thing Kara could have done in that moment? Oof. That hit hard. It was such an emotionally satisfying scene on so many levels. I loved it.
Also The Middle cover in the fight scene was awesome people are just mean or they don't see the vision. But I DO. I SEE THE VISION.
There seem to be a lot of people who don’t understand why Lobo was in the movie, so I’m just gonna say it: Lobo is who Kara is at risk of becoming.
Kara is at a crossroads, and one road leads towards Clark and one leads to Lobo. Or rather, one path leads to embracing the responsibility of the life and powers her parents gave her, and the other is continuing to drink her life away, not caring about anything or anyone but her and hers.
Lobo is immensely powerful, and the last of his planet. Just like Kara. And when we meet him, he’s passed out drunk in a bar, oblivious and uncaring of violence and exploitation around him. Just like Kara was trying to be when she first met Ruthye.
Lobo is Kara’s future if she gives up on trying to be good. Drunkenly stumbling through the galaxy not helping anyone or anything and only caring about herself. Maybe not mindlessly cruel, but not kind or good or caring of the pain of the people around her.
It’s why they both get Ruthye’s spiel, it’s why Lobo’s whole introduction mirrors what Kara was just doing demanding to know about the Brigands, it’s why they’re both “the ditz from the bar”, it’s why they both have the gag with the space suit collar.
It’s why Lobo crops up each time Ruthye and Kara are faced with choices, sometimes acting as a devil on their shoulders, sometimes just a big lurking ominous warning of their bleak future if they make the wrong choices. It’s why Lobo says “let Ruthye have her revenge”, uncaring of how the violence might haunt Ruthye for the rest of her life. He’s a big constant reminder why Kara cannot let this thirteen year old girl be consumed by violence, and of who her parents didn’t want her to be.
Lobo is Kara’s foil and shadow.
I don’t think the movie always executed this well, it could have been done better, but I don’t think it was subtle either. The parallels between Kara and Lobo are right there in every scene and always highlight the choices Kara makes to be kind, and I do wish people would take the time to actually think about them before writing Lobo’s presence off.
being on the other side of christianity I’m just like. why would you take something as beautiful as human life and ruin it by creating a higher power who hates your natural state of being and demands perfection with a set of standards that don’t mean anything. when you could just like. be kind and respectful to others. and enjoy being in your body. we never needed guilt and fearmongering.
It’s my birthday weekend movie marathon with my roommates and I move out of state in a few days too. I live with a husband and wife, both of whom knew this weekend was coming at least two months in advance, both of whom said they were excited for it. Then the husband pulls out of it, only watches 1 movie. The wife watches them with me and we are mostly on schedule, and then today we watched one movie before going out to meet with a local candidate and learn political tea. She promised it would be a short meeting but she was out for hours, just got home, and is leaving for another meeting in 30 mins. We’re gonna watch another movie when she gets back from her next meeting, but we will have to watch the last 2 movies the day after my birthday (turning 25 tomorrow).
So fuck me and my birthday I guess. Am I being too emotional? I am a Cancer, we are in a retrograde, my roommates have let me down. So idk

Being a crafty person and making a bunch of things often prompts people to ask "oh wow did you make that?" And like, the short answer is: yes I did, but the long answer is: well, no, the pattern isn't mine, but I did choose and buy the fabric/yarn and sewed it together/crocheted it/knitted it myself. I used a reference for that drawing/painting, I didn't come up with it myself. That ceramic piece was insired by a poem and a painting made by different people. What I'm trying to say is, everything I make requires other people to make their own thing first, and then I get inspired by them to do my own thing. So I can't really call anything truly mine, because really it's just a bunch of inspirations and experiences of others (and me) put together by my hands. Does that answer your question
This yarn came from sheep raised in New Zealand and was spun by a woman in Peru. The pattern was created by someone in Germany. My needles were made by a craftsman in China and my stitchmarkers came from the lady at the local fiber festival.
I may have knit this sweater but it contains the souls of people from around the world.
Trauma is such a broad concept that it's basically useless at this point. Honestly, I kind of resent how it has come to be treated as a universal theory of human behaviour.
Like I've gotten into a car accident. I can't get behind the wheel. I think that it's fair to call that trauma, because i can't really think what else you would call it. Maybe I need a therapist for that, I don't know.
I spent, along with the rest of you, a year and a half under various states of quarantine. People call that trauma, but it's not remotely the same as the first one. I found it stressful, perhaps, but I've never had nightmares about it, and if they ever decide to shut everything down again, I'll just shrug and deal with it. It won't give me flashbacks or whatever.
And then of course, I've spent the last year, along with the rest of you, watching a genocide play out in real time over social media. Has that traumatized me? Maybe. I've had nightmares about it. I've had extreme outbursts of sorrow or (especially) anger over it. I've seen certain images that stay with me even when I close my eyes. But you know what, I don't think that I need a therapist for it, I think that what i need is for the fucking genocide to end and for the fuckers responsible to be brought to justice. Trying to medicalise this is not just useless, or even counterproductive; i think it's bloody insulting.
And, actually, I want to talk about the genocide a little more, because people also use discourses of trauma to excuse explain the behaviour of the genocidaires. "Oh, it's because of Israel's national trauma over the October 7th attack; it's because of generational trauma from the Holocaust!" which....okay, yeah. I fully acknowledge those things are incredibly horrific to live through, and I have no reason to doubt that research on epigenetic changes being passed down to your offspring is valid, or that it affects how you raise your children. But then you see pictures of IDF soldiers smiling and laughing together as they commit war crimes and, like...is their behaviour really so much different from that of every other bunch of genocidal thugs in history that you need to invoke a particular cultural history of trauma in order to explain it? What about the Germans? Were they all just reeling from their collective national trauma over losing the First World War? What about the American cavalries as they slaughtered their way through the West? Was that all just generational trauma over...fuck, I dunno, their Puritan ancestors being kicked out of England or whatever? Is anyone ever responsible for anything they do, or is it all just a vast human centipede of generational suffering stretching back in time to Adam and Eve's trauma over being expelled from Paradise?
Help, my generational trauma forced me to do a fire-sale of expropriated Palestinian real estate!
#important#I think “trauma” can be a trigger/excuse for bad behaviour#but like I think think the biggest motivator is it feels awesome to be superior to others
