Intj: The Reverend. A hulking figure in black, the kind of person who was born to be an intimidating silhouette. His voice is bass thunder, and when he tells his flock to repent, shivers shoot down everyone’s spines. He seems absolutely, nearly intimately, certain of God, and absolutely, almost intimately certain that God is terrifying. It always seems like it storms more when he is angry about something.
Entj: A sharp old woman with a high collar and a pair of knitting needles that glint like daggers. The way they clink together always make you shiver a little. She’s rich- owns half the land around here and says she’s got important friends in the city who want to “develop” it. She’s got big plans for this place, she says. She scolds you for playing in the creek on her land and the night after you play in the creek you have a nightmare that her important friends from the city come down, and that her important friends from the city are buzzards, and they fly, cackling, in a tornado formation, gobbling up all the places you love.
Esfj: The way her eyes twinkle when she sparks up a conversation makes you nervous, but she makes the best sweet tea in town, and you can never seem to resist sitting down with her to have a glass. You find miasma of lilac scented perfume, gazing into her soft, heavily powdered face. “Bless your little heart” she says when the conversation is over. As you walk away from her porch, you realize that you don’t remember what exactly you just talked about, but you have a sinking feeling you might have told her a secret or two about yourself.
Isfj: on the edge of town there is a kind-eyed old man who lives alone. He whittles animals out of wood. He makes corn-husk dolls and apple dolls and he will give them to children who visit him. People she their heads and sigh when they talk about him- he talks about his wife like she’s still alive. He makes her dinner and buys her new clothes. Every once in awhile somebody will mention that the dirt on his wife’s grave is a little lumpier than than it was when she was first buried- like somebody had been digging there. But nobody ever talks about that for very long. afterall, he ain’t hurting nobody. Best to leave these things alone.
Intp: In class and in church she is quiet, often teased. A face overly solemn for a little girl, and two long, but the inside of her room looks like madness and wonder. it is full of pressed butterflies and jars with stick insects or dormant cocoons. With dried leaves and jars of elderberries. With junebug shells. With fossils. Sometimes when boys make fun of her, they notice later that day that their milk at lunchtime tastes a little funny, and from the other side of the playground, her nose in a book, she smirks. She’s a concocter, and she’s brewing something big- one day, they’ll all see what she can do.
Entp: He can talk up a storm, that one. As a kid he had a reputation for telling tales but they thought he’d grow out of it. He never did, really. His ideas just got bigger and wilder and now he remains a charming scoundrel- he’ll tell you he’s building a hot air balloon and he’s going to fly it all the way to Chicago. He’ll tell you he made a special kind of glasses that lets you see people’s bones. He will tell you these things you’ll only half know whether he’s joking or not.
Istj: the middle aged schoolteacher with the tight bun, the drab clothes, the soft voice, and the forgettable face. Used to be people would feel sorry for her, or walk all over her. Until one day funny things started happening in the school house- the kids would hear a gravelly voice laughing around lunch time. They’d come in the morning to see jagged claw marks down the door. Erasers would fly through the air and chills would rush through the room during long division lessons. “This is my school house,” she said, “And I won’t have any haints in it.” Everyone laughed at her, but they say the next night she walked up the hill alone to the schoolhouse, with eight carefully sharpened stakes, a cross, some chalk and some big bundles of thorny plants. And they say the next day she came back home with a black eye and her hair all messed up. And everything was back to normal in the schoolhouse after that, but she walks with a slight limp now.
Estj: The best hunter and trapper in town, with a house full of trophies and taxidermied animals. It seems, sometimes, like he can’t talk about anything else besides the things he’s killed. He wears lots of hair grease, and has a sharp part and a sweaty handsomeness. Lots of the girls in town are always trying to court him- you think he smells always like raw meat. You notice that there is always just a little bit of blood coming out from under his fingernails.
Infj: the old blind lady who is always on her porch in a green rocking chair. if you water her ferns for her, she will fish you out a sticky peppermint from the jar she keeps beside her, and then she’ll clasp your hand, quote a verse of the bible and tell you what you need to watch out for in the future. (“watch out for them crows,” “watch out for the way the creek looks at you sideways”) no one has ever seen the inside of her house, and no one remembers a time when she was not old.
enfj: she knows your mama. She knows everybody’s mama. She is the queen of big hats and knowing people’s mamas. She makes all the church brochures and she is very concerned with the state of everyone’s soul and she says “you behave now- I’ve got eyes everywhere you know.” And you thought it was a figure of speech but sometimes you’ll look at a milk snake or an owl and their eyes will seem too green, the wrong shape, and a little bit… familiar.
Esfp: Everyone calls her “granny” but she’s nobody’s granny really. She could be anywhere from 45-85, her face a little leathery and well laugh lined. She walks with a knobby walking stick and carries a mother of pearl flask with her wherever she goes. She spends most of her time sitting outside the corner store flirting with the farmers in their overalls. If you pay her a couple dollars to go buy a little more booze, she’ll tell you a dirty joke.
Isfp: “No good,” your mama tells you, “will ever come of that one.” But there is something about the way the isfp looks, isn’t there, hunkered down behind the schoolhouse aloofly and effortlessly smoking a stolen cigarette. You’ve taken to hanging around with him- Only then came the night he drank half a jar of moonshine on his own, punched the wall of his barn until his knuckles were bloody, cussed the moon for hours. You were a little scared then, but you already love him, and you always will; it’s too late, now.
Enfp: everyone is in love with her. She is wild, beautiful, creative, and always going barefoot. Plays a mean banjo, likes to dance in mud puddles, and seems as though she might be made of sunlight. She says she dreams of running off to the city, she writes poetry in a red notebook and wants to get it published in magazines. When she goes, there will be conspicuous absences, the smell of just-after-a-rain, everyone will wonder if she was ever real.
Infp: the youngest Kelly boy has always been a little off, bless him. Not like the other kids. The way he never smiles and barely speaks, just stares into the distance, no matter how much the others pinch him take his toys. He never cries when they hurt him, and has a pet mouse that he keeps in the front pocket of his overalls.sometimes he says he sees people that aren’t there, sometimes he looks scared and says he sees people with no faces, and his mama tells him to hush.
Istp: the town drunk’s tomboy daughter comes swaggering up the road in overalls, and you spot her from the porch. She waves at you, hops your fence. “Got a secret” she says, and she opens her palm. In her hand is a pocket watch with initials on it that aren’t hers, and two human teeth. She grins, and her gums dripping crimson. she’s been fighting again. She’ll be fighting her whole life.
Estp: Every summer, around June, a vacuum cleaner in a sharp pinstripe suit comes to town. Knocks on all the doors and talks about politics in a reedy voice before showing you the latest model of the Hoovermatic 8000. Year after year, the newest model is always the Hoovermatic 8000. He makes good conversation, but there’s something strange about his face. Too many teeth? Smile too big? Everyone always knows not to invite him inside, but nobody ever tells you why.
How to catch an INTP - by an ISTP who caught one
The box
INTPs love boxes. A very simple trap will work, maybe because INTPs tend to look for complex systems and ideas, and they don’t have Se to recognize the simple, stupid things like an ISTP. So all you really need is a large cardboard box, a stick to prop it up with, and a book as bait (preferably a classic, INTPs like that sort of thing). The brilliance of this plan is that the INTP will catch his/herself. They’ll climb in the box, and even kick the stick out for you because it’s a cozy spot, content to read (You may want to punch a hole in the top to light their book). Tossing extra fuzzy blankets in the box may help, just in case.
The pitfall
Dig a hole. If you have upper-level Se, you probably like to dig holes anyway. Then cover it up; sticks, leaves, and you don’t really have to do a great job of hiding it. This one is trickier, but you can do it. Find out a few things the INTP is passionate about. Usually science (particularly theories), literature, even politics and psychology are a good bet. Then implore them to come outside with you, it’s best if there’s something out-of-the ordinary you can convince them to come see. Next, simply walk along with them, and be sure to keep throwing ideas at them, if you hit a good one they will do most of the talking. This will keep them occupied with the conceptual realm, and they won’t notice the pit you are leading them to. Tadaa! INTP in a hole.
The joker
INTPs seem fascinated with Se, so if you have it, use it. Do something. Climb trees, jump off stuff, make something with your hands, tell lots of terrible puns. Then, while they’re making their observations, suddenly grab their hand and start running.
The con
Appeal to their little feelings. The trick is to look pitiful, but not too desperate. They have to like you first, so you may have to establish some rapport. Then, toss them a line. Show them you are being vulnerable, but not needy. It has to be kind of like a puzzle, where they want to figure out what the issue is and what you’re like, don’t just dump all your feelings out at once. Do let them help, they tend to be very insightful. Then be honest, stay honest, and be friends. They’ll never see it coming.
The adventure
Plan something fun, but invite them last-minute (be sure you know that their schedule is open at that time). They like spontaneous, or in this instance, the appearance thereof. Plan a picnic and a hiking trip. Be sure to collect animal and plant specimens. It may not be the INTPs favorite thing to do, but they will find it fascinating and unique, and may well have a hard time saying “no.” Make sure to wander much farther into the woods than you deem wise, that way they’ll probably have to rely on you to get back, and then you have them.
The secret
The real way you catch an INTP is… you don’t. You may catch their eye or their interest, but if you try to hold on to one, it will either try to escape or wither in your grasp. How the general public views types vs. How I *personally* view them
INTJ: Genius who’working on taking over the world or on curing cancer depending if they’re good or evil.
Me: Much more community-serving than the misanthropic stereotype thrown at them. Insightful idea people who actually want to make it happen.
ENTJ: Definitely trying to take over the world, but most likely a ruthless CEO
Me: Not a ruthless CEO, but rather a bit more of a life coach. Doesn’t mince words but can be quite fun and inspirational under the right circumstances. My most enviable type because other than the nasty repressing of feelings, they are usually super well-rounded at seeing everything and adjusting accordingly.
INFJ: Mystic, saint, wasn’t born but rather hatched from a pod in another dimension
Me: Essentially an ISFJ but with more of a spiritual/esoteric edge to them. Not concerned on focusing with your every day problems but rather the life path you should take. Incredibly smart but sometimes overshoot their ideals.
ENFJ: Oprah/Bono
Me: Actually more over-dramatic than ESFJs but once you can get passed that, you can see how insightful they actually are.
INTP: Dungeons and Dragons enthusiast
Me: I think the nerd stereotype is actually kinda true? Although they are often more (surprisingly) artistically inclined. Super smart, probably more than all types, but do indeed tend to be lazy.
ENTP: Charming troll
Me: Heretic troll, except…..sometimes we kinda need that to put things back into perspective? Has this weird ability to constantly shift back and forth between being super realistic and day-dreamy. really good at giving advice, but go off and run with it before they go too far down the rabbit hole.
INFP: INFJ but without the whole “wanna change the world’‘ thing. Because they’re too emo.
Me: The true ’'artists” of the MBTI family IMO. I do believe that most world-famous artists are actually ISFPs because A) They are more common and B) They usually know better than INFPs how to cater to a large populace. But I think INFPs are usually more unhinged artistic types, more difficult to comprehend but in a good way. Same as INTP though, they are subject to being lazy (sorry).
ENFP: Any anime or manga character
Me: The ultimate SJW type (those stereotypes are true) but way more grounded, realistic and business savvy then they give themselves credit for.
ISTJ: Boring suit and tie guy, not openly racist/homophobic but probably is. His only wild side was a brief fling with the secretary
Me: Stick in the mud, judgmental, but surprisingly rebellious and artistic. Seen as the ultimate conformist but actually has their own thoughts and views of things, which believe or not, can go against the popular consensus.
ESTJ: Drill sergeant
Me: Way more fun and zany then people give them credit for (what with all that stiff authority figure stereotypes) but do indeed have a tendency to point fingers and tell you they’re right and you’re wrong.
ISFJ: Mom who read 457 Danielle Steele novels
Me: Actually one of the more mysterious MBTI types. People love to lump them into the predictable “mom” or “nurse” category. But I find them to be sleeping rebels whom at anytime will do something that you’ll never see coming. Much more secretive than the stereotype suggests. When they snap, all hell breaks loose.
ESFJ: Soccer mom if over 30, basic white girl at Starbucks if under 30.
Me: I believe to my core that they actually are the most well-meaning type. They really are the nurturers of this world and WAY smarter than people think (because socially smart is actually very much a thing and they have that in spades), but they simply struggle with boundaries, which is why they are often considered as being overbearing.
ISTP: Car mechanic if held under low esteem, apocalyptic survivor if held in high esteem. Wishes “The Purge” would come true.
Me: One of my personal favorite types. I love dark and uncalled for humor and they are one of the few types who actually get off on it. Super practical and helpful BUT yes, they have trouble taking accountability for their own actions, always blaming others, even the fricikn’ government for sh*tty things they do, and that does get annoying over time. The concept of personal responsibility seems to be lost on them.
ESTP: Annoying jock/frat boy, passed out on booze every night
Me: The ultimate realists who don’t mince words. They are extremely inspirational leaders, but sadly don’t realize or don’t want to put their energy into it. By far the most popular people you will encounter and thus you will try to copy them, until you sadly realize their swag/sass in 100% natural whereas yours is probably forced. The unhealthy ones however will range anywhere from jerks to borderline sociopaths.
ISFP: Chosen to defend the realm of Earth from the evil Aganor and his dark army,
Me: The true “rebels” of the MBTI. They simply do NOT give sh*t what you think. Tell them that jumping off a bridge is stupid and will kill them and they……will probably do it. Just to prove you wrong. But in all seriousness, these people balance the artistic and realistic like no other type.
ESFP: “Like, let’s totes party! Like 4 realz!”
Me: Often portrayed as the least intelligent type, and that may be true if they are young, dumb and full of c*m, but most of the mature ones are so driven and business-focused that they make your typical ENTJ blush by comparison, BUT yes, they are often slaves to their values and can make dumb decisions just on the basis that they won’t cross a subjective line in their morals. Just like ESTPs, if you’re looking to boost your stock through appearance, they know how, but won’t be as much jerks about it.
