You’re not legally married because he has no legal identity. He believes the concept of marriage can be very romantic when separated from what the state makes it. So many people being denied marriage shows what a powerful dynamic it can be.
Please don’t let him start waxing poetic on the concept. Kiss him when he starts and shut him up. You’ll be there for hours otherwise.
Isn’t really one for pet-names until you guys get married and suddenly he realizes he can call you his something without seeming as wholly possessive as he truly is. You’re his wife/husband/spouse and he refers to you by your title often.
“Where is my spouse?” he calls teasingly into the shadow gallery and eagerly awaits the amused echo of your answer. He knows he’s ridiculous at this point, acting like you’re still in the honeymoon phase even after so much time spent together.
You’ve made his life the sweetest it’s ever been. You’ve given him things he never dared to dream of. With you he is Human. A man. Your husband.
If he can make you laugh by showing you how besotted he is, then why would he hold back an ounce of his passion for you?
If he didn’t have an image to keep up and a secret spouse to always keep safe (protecting you is one part of his vows that he takes deadly serious) then he would constantly be speaking about you.
It’s the one time he laments not having any connections to the outer world, no other confidants. He has no one to talk to you about. His perfect spouse.

Shadow gallery a little chilly and you shivered in your sleep last night? Not on his watch. Next time he goes out he comes back with the finest, softest blankets in all of Europe.
He’s an absolute mad man. When will he be stopped?
Likes to wake you up with breakfast in bed. Sometimes he just can’t be around, there’s a lot of corruption in the world, so when he is around he makes it count.
It’s hard to wake up early enough before him to surprise him back.
There’s a lot of factors working against you towards trying to make your husband a simple breakfast in bed.
First, he wakes up when you leave the bed. He doesn’t sleep when you’re not beside him. Second, any noise and he wakes up, going to check on you. Third, he loves to be a spoil-sport. He will wake up and smell food cooking. He will race to the kitchen to help you cook. No there is nothing you can do to stop him. The monster. The put out look on your face is adorable. It’s become a full-fledged game between you two.
You finally get him one morning when he comes home seriously hurt but tells you not to fret, dear. You wait till he’s perfectly asleep, crawl from bed and begin to quickly make him food. He does wake up but it’s as you’re coming into the room, smugger than ever, with a tray for him in hand. He laughs so hard he busts several stitches.
Will take you outside to do romantic things like stargazing and picnics once it’s safe to do so. He’ll find spots for the two of you. It’s nice to spend time with him in such a way.
Of course there’s dancing — you’re always dancing together. Slow, the way V likes best, he’s a sap and has memorized every beat of the song you first danced to, together. He hums it to himself sometimes. It’s soothing to him.
He does wear a ring under his gloves and he did get you an engagement and wedding ring as well. This was very important to him. He needed to give you some bit of normalcy.
He’s very proud of you and very proud that you worked through so many things (a shit ton of things) in order to take such a big step together.
He knows it’s not easy some days, being with him. He knows it wasn’t easy even convincing him to be with you. But he loves you dearly and you’ll always know how much he appreciated that you fought for him. For the two of you.
Some days he doesn’t understand how you could come to have loved him like he loves you. Some days he does. When he looks at himself through your eyes it’s easier.
V will always be the man…the monster, that will make the world answer for its crimes against its own people. But now he’s also your husband and he understands that.
He takes risks still, but not so many that he could ever be accused of not caring if he comes home or not. Of course he cares — he has you to come home to.
