The last few weeks have been tiring and healing in equal parts. He had been tending to his Lord as he dealt with the consequences of losing his Gnosis, only departing to quash the dark and demonic remnants of old Gods that would occasionally seep through the cracks in the Earth. These things were ceaseless, but he was used to that by now; though providing round-the-clock care had presented its own challenges, it had also given him more time than usual to pause and take rest.

( Mostly because it was demanded of, in one way or another, by his Lord - orders that we would never dream to refuse. )

He’s been awake in their bed at Wangshu Inn for a some time now, as sleep rarely takes him, and never for long. Honey-brown eyes would flit from door to window every once in a while, surveying their surroundings for a threat that never came, before inevitably settling back on the sleeping form of his former God. They remained upon him now, as the man seemed to stir.

“ It has been a long time since you have left this room, ” His voice is quiet, and lacking its usual edge. It is soft. “ I have something to to show you, today. If you are feeling well enough for a short stroll... ”

The formality is more a term of endearment these days, for their bond has grown so strong that it was not really a requirement. Within the four walls of Saber there is not a soul he trusts more, and he has missed her in her absence, even if they had not been parted for long.

It takes Qiqi a few hours to realise that her herb-gathering quest has taken her beyond the map in her notebook, and into territories unknown. She stands in a place with entirely different topography now, mountains replaced with rolling hills and wooded straits. Though her memory did not often serve her well, in this instance, it could not serve her at all.

“ Qiqi... is lost. ” She speaks to herself more than anyone else, mind turning over what to do, how to get back on the right path. But if the universe is generous, someone may hear. “ What should Qiqi do... ”

In his defence, Rufus had been hoping to bring some levity to the room in which they currently stood, and he could usually count on the other man to meet his insults in turn. But perhaps it was slightly unfair of him to make such comments on what must already be a stressful day for their resident white dragon.

Velvet-gloved hands read out to fix Sting’s tie, and readjust his collar so that it sat flat against his neck. The least he could do to balm-over the sting of his words.

“ I wouldn’t allow you to leave the guild if you were horribly dressed. In fact, quite the opposite is true - I think this style suits you, and I am sure the Princess will find it agreeable too. ”

CANON DIVERGENCE AND EXTRA NOTES… ۪۪۫۫ ༄ؘ ˑ Rufus

Canon Divergence:

Rufus, like many of my Fair.y Tai.l muses, is canon divergent.

He does not leave Sabertooth. Under any circumstance. This is a really weird decision on M*shima’s part and one I most assuredly do not vibe with. I wouldn’t put him past the desire for more power - he is a Saber after all - but he wouldn’t leave the guild in order to do so. Which leads me to the next point...

Whilst I do vibe with Sabertooth’s morals improving slightly after the GMG, I do not like the idea that they become Fair.y Tai.l 2.0 and revolve around nakama-power. In line with some other Saber portrayals on this website, they are still a proud and powerful guild - a guild in their own right.

Extra notes:

He can be mean and rude, especially to those with whom he isn’t entirely familiar. And also to those he cares for, because bullying is low-key his love language.

I can’t say he’s particularly fair in battle because his magic literally clones & he uses tactics (many of which are underhanded) to defeat opponents.

Bisexual with a preference for men.

Many fancy hats.

sting knew he was a working progress in regards to conformist fashion. he was a fighter, and arguably, a showman. he prefers his rather vivacious visuals — brilliant and blinding like the light he wields. sting now begs people to underestimate him. they could always count on the white dragon to do the unexpected. he built that reputation for himself since the last grand magic games. as much as he wanted to win — he enjoyed taking it upon himself to only do so on his terms.

a meeting with the princess was upon him. for the first time, he really did take care in making his appearance more than acceptable given the unique circumstances. it was unusual for him to care what people might think. clearly, his fellow tiger had no qualms about delivering a swift and painfully honest reply.

eyes void of amusement, he doesn’t hide the bitter dramatics of his response, ❛ well damn, lohr. when i asked you if i looked okay, a simple 'no' would've sufficed. ❜
