My Finch had to be a girl because the costume change from Finch to Bowery Beauty was easier if Finch was meant to be a girl
During musical: 14 years old
Joined Brooklyn Newsies: 6 years old
Joined Manhattan Newsies: 7 years old
Joined Bowery: 11 years old
- Born to a kind mother, father left (kinda a jerk, he's also the one who fathered Race)
- Grew up learning to read and write fairly well
- Mother taught her to value herself highly
- 5 years old, she realizes her mom was struggling to support both herself and Finch
- 6 years old, Finch decides to leave home and try to help with money. She refuses to come home until she has enough money to help her mom
— Joining the Brooklyn Newsies (My Finch had to enter with Brooklyn, so this was kinda some story I gave to help her feel less out of place. She has a red piece of fabric throughout the show to show some association with Brooklyn) —
- After leaving, Finch quickly realizes that uh... This is very difficult, trying to get money on her own as a little kid
- She runs into Brooklyn Newsies a few times, and she ends up hiding because they.. make her a little jittery (hehe)
- she ends up meeting Young Spot Conlan, who was a very sweet kid at the time, and brought her to actually meet the Brooklyn Newsies
- Briefly, she joined them, and Spot gave her a piece of torn red fabric to carry with her, just to show association with them and all that
- At some point, Spot's older brother (who was Brooklyn's leader at the time) dragged Spot into toughening up and being more of a leader
- Spot started being a lot less of a person Finch wanted to be around, and at some point, she ran again
- After Finch left, she fell asleep in an alleyway, having cried herself to sleep
- Race, young boy with a mutual crush on Spot, about 8 years old, leaves Brooklyn after having hung out secretly with Spot that night
- Finch had a very... Squeaky cry, kinda bird sounding, so Race heard these squeaks and investigated
- Race finds this pathetic little girl, and (being softer than he'll ever admit) he picks her up and takes her home with him to Manhattan
- Finch clings to Race for the first few weeks, Jack is quick to help care for her and get her on her feet again.
- Manhattan Newsies grow in numbers and she becomes a strong piece of the group
- Finch gained her name when she was out with Race selling newspapers and uh... She got attacked by a bunch of birds? So like, he decided it was funny to call her Finch, cuz she sounded like a bird when he found her and she also got attacked by birds
- she gets her period at 11, that's when the guys bring her to Medda and she joins the Bowery, mostly just to have a group of other women around her 🙂↕️
- She always keeps that red fabric with her, it's very sentimental to her
- her past with Brooklyn helped me give more reasons for her to be afraid of it, and it helped give reasoning for her entering with them during Brooklyn's Here
- I imagine that after Spot's older brother got old enough and dipped, Spot figured out leading the newsies in his own way — he reconnected with Finch before they came to support the Manhattan Newsies
