My life done flipped, turned upside down
My last update was almost exactly a month ago, and wow. Things sure have changed for me!
First, I started house hunting. I got approved for a mortgage and had pinpointed a few units that fit my wants and needs and was full steam ahead to actually own property. I felt nicely settled into my current place, and was really stable here, but I was also month-to-month, which meant I had the bandwidth to look leisurely at homes to own! I was pretty stoked.
The very first day my realtor and I met to view properties, I opened up my email just before the first place, and I had a message from my landlord. She needed her condo back within 30 days. 🫠
My home-buying plans got waylaid. But, luckily, because I'd already been scouring listings... I knew of a rental.
She's an old Victorian home built in 1901. Top floor, corner unit of six apartments. The scale is a little hard to judge from these photos but those ceilings are 15 feet. I have a view. I have no shared walls. My downstairs neighbor is an office occupied only M-F 10-3. I have two patios!
I get the keys today. From when my landlord emailed me to today, when I'm moving in the first bits of my home (and my cats!), it's been 17 days. A lot can happen in 17 days, apparently!
During all of this, my first ever published novella, Hawk & March, released. I was pretty heartbroken about its debut but now that I'm doing this professionally I cannot talk openly about the wins and loses of publishing without it being inappropriate. But I can say: I'm very pleased now. The first week was rough, and I cried probably too much, but I'm in a better place on week two, and I feel very supported and loved. If you want to read the book (for free!) you can do so on my website, btw.
Okay, I'm back to packing. I leave in 1.5 hours to get these keys. Eek!
