love the trope where an authoritative side character pointedly pretends not to help the hero they’re not supposed to be helping by saying shit like “well I can’t just let you wander around up to the THIRD FLOOR where you could just FIND THE THING YOU NEED in the FIRST ROOM ON THE LEFT. And under no circumstances should you USE THE KEY FROM UNDER THE MAT. I wish I could help you, but I CAN’T. Now excuse me, I need to take this phone call for the next 37 minutes EXACTLY.”
My doctor did that for me once. I had to get an expensive brain scan and she was like ‘do you smoke?’ and I was like ‘no’ and she was like “well that’s a pity because the government will pay for this expensive brain scan if you had been a smoker so - do you smoke?” 🤣🤣🤣 I was like ‘yes’ and she’s like ‘oh wow then this scan will be free’
june will be soft and sweet
AND GAY!!!!!!!!!!
Tom Loftis + Possibly having the worst night of his life Widow's Bay, S01E07
anyway i think pride month is a good time to think about how lesbophobia and biphobia faced by women are not actually different types of bigotry in any concrete way, it's all just slightly different manifestations of the overlap between misogyny and homophobia that causes people to treat women like they are not a reliable authority on their own sexuality. its not that one type of queer sexuality is meaningfully more accepted its that asserting your own sexual identity as a woman is pretty much just seen as a threat to general society and will receive whatever pushback is easiest to reach for. unfortunately sometimes as a reaction to this we have a tendency to place the blame on each other for this treatment instead of realizing we're all crabs in the same bucket.
there are essentially zero experiences that a bi woman has had that a lesbian hasn't also, and vice versa. we don't gain anything from acting like we're two distinct groups with any real power imbalance or competing interests between them.
Racism in fandom spaces is actually insanely bad and if you ever try to downplay or avoid conversations about it because "fandom is supposed to be fun" then I'm not sorry to say this: You're adding on to the problem.
If POC speaking up about a fandom's racism issue offends you more than the racism itself, you need to think about that. You need to think about how POC fighting racism offends you more than the racism.

Widows bay spoilers///
I think what I love about tom loftis is he's such a little prick but he does at times really care.
Like he won't give his water to someone coughing up a fit, he doesn't offer lifts to Ruth in the morning but over corrects and almost gets killed by a sea hag.
He's lonely after his wife's death he lets his kid do a bit of mischief if it's beneficial to both of them, he's stern with the grounding but he ran for mayor with the sole aim of bringing widows bay back onto the map so just maybe , maybe his son will want to stay and not die on the mainland.
I think he lost his wife when they tried to flee to the mainland to have Evan, she was changed by that trip maybe still physically present in Evans childhood but mentally lucid and he's tried to just erase that in his memories. It's easier to tell Evan she died in childbirth than explain whatever worse situation happened with his mum caused by the island.
He keeps a box of photos locked in his room and he prays over the toilet bowl after the worst trip of his life for something for god to protect his son.
He cares so so much and he's a dick.
And I hope they save the town.
Rosemary widow's bay is theee character of all time. She's been on this island forever. People bitch and moan about the old hospital but she knows you can drive PAST it you just can't STOP there. She sees some insane witchcraft happening and she has some qualms but honestly with all the shit she's seen this doesn't even rank in the top ten. She's gonna smoke that cigarette and not give a fuck about her lungs because odds are the fog or the boogeyman or what the fuck ever will get to her first. Same shit as always.
Loftis got so excited his accent jumped out (Matthew Rhys is Welsh)
per anon’s request, i present to you THE best version of beatrice’s monologue in much ado about nothing. i thought about cropping this but decided this scene must be watched in its full glory
What’s really cool about this is this is the first version of this scene that I’ve seen where the tone doesnt whiplash wildly which is so hard to do!!! Bc it’s a scene that comes directly after some rough public shaming and it is both a love confession scene and a scene where a woman asks someone to kill someone and the love confession IS funny but Beatrice’s monologue is not. A lot of the other versions- even well beloved ones like the 2011 version with David Tennant and Catherine Tate- do this scene and there is emotional whiplash, audiences often laughing when Beatrice begs Benedict to kill Claudio. To see it done this way??? Oh my god the line read on “if a were a man, I would eat his heart in the marketplace” DESERVED that cheet
"COLUMBO" S1E5 - "Dead Weight"
has anyone figured out how to turn off the thing where you love your pet so much it slides inexorably into grief-borrowing
“For me this glass is already broken. I enjoy it; I drink out of it. It holds my water admirably, sometimes even reflecting the sun in beautiful patterns. If I should tap it, it has a lovely ring to it. But when I put this glass on the shelf and the wind knocks it over or my elbow brushes it off the table and it falls to the ground and shatters, I say, ‘Of course.’ When I understand that the glass is already broken, every moment with it is precious.”
More expression sketches, it’s Chehlsee’s turn!
