Before she can even say another word, the sensation of her phone vibrating in her pocket interrupts her thoughts. Carmen flashes him a pointed look before rummaging through her pocket and taking the phone out. “ What.” She asks picking up the incoming call, her voice imbued with frustration as she looks out to the body of water. “ Yes…are you sure it was taken care of.” There’s a slight pause as she presses the phone closer to her ear, turning slightly so that her vision is entirely fixed on him. “ I swear if this happens again you’re done.” Realizing that it almost appears that she’s talking to him, she mouths not you towards him.

“ Well, you’re in luck boat boy.” She says as she pockets her phone again. “ So, what are you planning on doing now? What do you need that boat for?… I’m curious.” Honestly, she’d been taken aback by his lack of willingness to part with the small boat. Was she losing her touch? It was usually much easier than this.

to say the least, marcel finds this conversation STRESSFUL -- which is truly saying something, as he doesn’t let much in his life stress him out. the loss of his boat, however, was something he couldn’t simply let slide like it was nothing. after all, he’s really not sure what he’ll do without it. borrow one until he can afford another? didn’t exactly seem IDEAL, not only because it would certainly inconvenience someone else, but because another boat wouldn’t have the same FEEL as his -- or the same features, which make his research radically easier.

so he expels a breath of relief when she announces, in so many words, that she apparently doesn’t need the boat after all. it spares him from further arguing, or worse, trying to wrestle the helm away from her. ( by the looks of it, she’d probably DESTROY him, when it came down to it ; he’s not much of a fighter. ) the brief argument certainly tired him out and he takes a heavy seat on a box of supplies beside the boat’s rail.

❛ I’m a MARINE BIOLOGIST, ❜ he responds, not bothering to hide either the exhaustion or relief in his voice. ❛ everything I do depends on me having this boat. without it, I’d be pretty screwed. so, yeah, I kinda need it. hey, why did you need my boat in the first place anyway? ❜

it wouldn’t be a typical work day for the herbivore caretaker if she didn’t venture out to the other attractions around the vast part. not only did it grant her some time to visit the prehistoric animals, but it granted her more of a chance to converse with some of the park employees. today’s target ? the aquatic expert himself. her hands folded behind her back and chin lifted, alice approached the mosasaur tank’s observatory glass. ‘ hi ! ‘ her greeting was spoken in the usual energetic tone she had, ‘ how’s she doing today ? wait, how are you doing today ? actually. how are you both doing today ?! ‘

as usual, he’d had a rather EARLY day. call it habit from his years back home, but marcel had a difficult time sleeping past five-thirty in the morning at the very latest. it doesn’t particularly bother him, no matter how ODD other people find it ; it gives him plenty of time to get what he wants to get done, and he rises and sets with the sun. he’s lost count of the number of things he’s already checked off his mental to-do list, and by the time alice approaches, he’s frowning at two samples of tank water in his hands, waiting for the ph strips to properly read. ❛ alice! ❜ he exclaims, the frown disappearing in an instance when she speaks, replaced by his TYPICAL GRIN. ❛ great to see you! we’re, uh ... we’re both fine. I mean, she’s a bit grumpy at the moment because she hasn’t been fed yet, but I’m good, and -- well, how are YOU? ❜

there are moments in her life when no mind is paid to her surroundings. even those who claim supernatural abilities can blunder! her visual perception narrows as eyelids come near a close at his words. is he mocking her? “ I am the one who should be apologizing. I was listening to the ocean and not looking where I was walking. ” her reply is brisk, and the hand that had previously reached for the aforementioned wall withdrew itself to her chest, closing the denim shirt over her bikini.

had he known she thought for a moment he was mocking her, marcel would quite frankly have been appalled -- not at her but at the very IDEA that he could come off that way in the first place. he remains crouched beside the sea wall beside the aforementioned mussels, but he smiles at her despite her tone, and somewhat apologetically ; he does, as a matter of fact, feel BAD for catching her off-guard -- or for making her uncomfortable in any way. ❛ -- really, I didn’t mean to alarm you. my work can be ... CHALLENGING. in any case, no harm done! truly, you should pay more attention to the ocean than to me ; she’s far more interesting. ❜

I can go deep sea diving without blinking, but I am ... not big on heights and to be honest? probably couldn’t take a PUNCH to save my life! yikes! ❜ he gives a chuckle, although he’s being entirely serious ; he’s never one to judge anybody for their fears, especially as related to his job, which is risky, he’s the first to admit. ❛ look, you don’t have to. plenty of people come out here and never actually get in the water. you can see perfectly FINE from the boat, usually. ❜
