merry is simply getting ready for the rest of the night - she doesnât like the quiet bars, doesnât like to just sit and drink and mull. the mind, she believes, is the worst place to spend time. much more worthwhile to merely inhabit the body, and seek physical pleasure. she swallows down the last of her whisky, ice clattering in the glass as she sets it back down and signals the bartender for another. then thereâs a voice net to her, and she turns, trying to look only a little bit deadly. âdepends on the odds.â she replies coolly, âtoo many cheats in this city for me to agree off the bat.â
                           -------------------
If there was any disappointment felt at her not readily agreeing, he didnât show it. âSmart, I like that.â Straight forward natures were something that heâd always preferred when heâd never really liked secrets or speaking in a veiled manner. It was a waste of time as far as he was concerned, always preferring to have information in front of him over playing at guesswork. âSmall odds and Iâm the one who stands to lose.â He grinned, hoping that had sweetened the deal enough before he raised a brow at her. âYou anymore interested now?â
Hazel eyes fluttered open, Dany soaking up the image of the stranger beside her. She had been completely zoned out, exhausted from an extensive day that consisted of scouting locations and upkeep. To put it frankly, Daenaerys was in no mood to entertain anyone, only at the bar as a means of solace. Do people not work anymore or??? She found herself asking, leaning against the palm of her hand while hearing the other out. âAnd what is this bet?â Answered the pakhan, resisting the urge to yawn.
                      ---------------------------------
Grin flashed over his features as she plays along, glad that his effort had been rebuffed if only because he always preferred when things were easy. âIâm glad you asked.â The rest of his beer is finished, emptying the bottle and setting it down before pulling a ten dollar bill from his pocket. Itâs stretched out with a crack before he sets it on the table, turning the bottle upside down before placing it on top of the note. âIf you can get that out from underneath without touching the bottle or knocking it over, you can keep it. And if thatâs not enough of a draw, Iâll toss in a free drink too.âÂ
The bar was quiet and he supposed that it might have appealed to some because of that. But it was all a little too calm for him when despite years of regimented living, heâd never been able to shake off his desire for the unpredictable. Maybe it was because he spent all of his days either following orders or giving them that in his spare time he wanted nothing more than to cause a little chaos. All in good fun, of course. Keen gaze darted around the room searching for someone he could pull into a little game before eventually he settled on the person nearest him. No time like the present. Leaning along the bar slightly, he posed a question with a devilish glint in his eye. âHey, you fancy a little bet?â
⌠â AND WHO GOES THERE? oh, itâs just [ ADDAM MARBRAND ]. some say [ HIS ] resemblance to [ JAY HERDANDEZ ] is almost uncanny, but the [ FORTY-TWO ] year old has been in the capital for [ FORTY-TWO YEARS ]. many suspect that they are the notorious [ CONSIGLIERE ] of the [ LANNISTER ] family: perhaps that has made them [ IMPULSIVE ] && [ SHORT FUSED ] of late, when they used to be so [ CHARISMATIC ] && [ FEARLESS ]. during the daylight hours, [ ADDAM ] can be found working as a [ DRILL SERGEANT ], but when night falls over kingâs landing, they are best remembered listening to [ BLOOD HANDS by ROYAL BLOOD ]. may the gods be with them in these dark streets.Â
tl;dr will make you think that heâs your friend and probably is but that wouldnât stop him making you rip if you get in his way
tw for war, injury and violence mentions
The only son of Damon Marbrand, a staunch supporter of Tywin Lannister, Addam perhaps should have felt some pressure growing up but he never did. Always unashamedly himself, he grow up bold and at times brash. Burning brightly enough that it was a wonder he never burnt out completely.
He lacked the self restraint of his father but made up for it with his infectious enthusiasm and contagious humour. He won people over easily and spent more time socialising at school than he did studying. It took a nudge from his father to apply himself and thanks to his quick mind he soon pulled his grades up.
Throughout his high school years he worked for Tywin Lannister, even though his family had no real need of the money. But his father thought it would be good for him and he knew better than to say no. It nothing hugely specific and more like an errand boy than anything else. What it did do though was give him a glimpse into The Iron Bank and he knew that at some point in his life heâd be back.
The Marbrand men had always done a stint in the armed forces and he wouldnât be the first one to break that tradition, only bend it slightly. Instead of the army he chose the Navy and then the marines, slowly let it foster some ability to follow orders in him.
He took to it more than he thought he would, doing a tour and then another and then another. A shoulder injury put and end to his last tour and even though itâs since healed up, he decided that activity duty was no longer for him.
Reluctant to leave the Navy completely, he applied to be a drill sergeant and train the new recruits. He slipped into the role with ease and found that he almost enjoyed it more than his tours.
Being stationed near Kings Landing meant that he could finally join the Iron Bank in the way that he wanted to. He cut his hand and bandaged it with gold leaf, throwing himself into whatever job was needed.
His willingness to get involved as well as his popularity among the other members saw him rise swiftly through the ranks, gaining the role of consigliere four years ago. Since then heâs kept a careful eye on things and makes sure that everything is running smoothly.
The death of Tywin hasnât changed much for him. Cersei is an altogether different kind of leader from her father but heâs willing to wait for her to settle into the role, helping where he can and trying to steer her in the right direction. Heâs got no issue with them being the ones to strike first, supporting their latest moves even if it only brings them more enemies.
Personality
Capable and dangerous with it, he hides it all behind easy smiles and a laid back demeanour. He gives off the air of someone who only wants a good time and for the most part itâs true when he does buy into the idea that youâre only live once. He likes it when things are easy, when he doesnât have to work for them. Revels in simple pleasures and tends to shun the luxurious, though heâll never say no to a more expensive scotch or beer. But hidden under that carefree air, is a man who is willing to do whatever it takes to keep The Iron Bank steady. Thereâs never been a moment when heâs questioned where his loyalties lie and theyâve never once been shaken. The Lannisters might be flawed but in a city of criminals, who wasnât? Even though he tends to like most people, liking them isnât enough for him to consider hesitating if getting them out the way was what was needed for The Iron Bank.Â
Something of a loose canon at times, he is unafraid to be daring or take risks when it comes to strategy. Fortune favours the bold is a phrase heâs built his life around, never shrinking from danger. Heâll always favour action over waiting things out and will never hesitate to do what needs to be done. Unafraid of both violence and of getting his own hands dirty, heâs he type of man that you want to be around and that people want to follow. Heâd never order someone to do something that he wouldnât himself and so he tends to lead by example. Rarely serious if he doesnât have to be, heâs able to switch from being a leader to simply one of the men with ease, even if he can switch back just as swiftly. Praise is relatively easily won from him when he promises to be nothing like the father who never uttered a word of praise to him. He knows itâs what keeps people loyal and happy to follow orders and so he instils in everyone a wish to earn his approval.Â
âIt was interesting, because there were some changes that happened later on,â explained Hernandez. âI didnât know thatâs how the end was going to happen, early on. For me, it was important to make it good, make it impressive, and go out in a blaze of glory. Ultimately, I think it worked to give it some meaning, some emotional weight to the end of the story.â - Jay Hernandez
