The only thing staving off the tidal wave of post-Dragon*Con depression was the prospect of taking Barney photos with the finished helmet once I got home.

So Tuesday night was Teach Yourself Lighting for Portrait Photography at 1 AM. Only tripped over the cords and tripods six times. 🙌

I've made a lot of dumb decisions in my life but reprinting Barney's MetroCop helmet 10% smaller sure isn't one of them.

Progress (and morale) stalled a little bit yesterday after dropping the entire back half on the kitchen floor while trying to fix one of the magnetic attachments. Disaster was averted with one entire tube of two-part epoxy and one nap and by supper, I could test the rest of the gear out with this smaller helmet.

Not sure what's the most gratifying:

- the vastly improved proportions

- the honestly shocking range of movement

- the foam neck-ring that fits nicely over the jacket collar and snugly up into the helmet base

Anyway, remaining steps are: sand down the epoxy clay filler, sort out the lighting for the ear pieces, and try not to freak the fuck out about painting this thing.

I know the Half Life art book says that Valve set out to make the best video game ever with Half Life 2 and I fully believe they did because this community is very much alive and well!

talking to my friend rn and like. one completely overlooked thing between barney and gordon is like

gordon is a reminder for barney, gordon is still freshly awake from the black mesa incident, it happened less than an hour ago for him, gordon is still in the midst of experiencing it, he hasnt been able to recover for a single moment. his memories are fresh and new. everything he experienced is still sharp. its still bleeding. barney on the other hand, hes over it, its been 20 years since it all happened. hes numb to it, its past him now, he has better things to do. sometimes it still lingers for him, be he ignores it, pushes it away, and seals it never to be touched. hes a resistance leader, theres no time to focus on despair of the past when he has to fight for a better future seeing gordon again, in such a state, that very same state he was in 20 years ago. he has barely changed, its like a time capsule, a time capsule for the time barney never looks at again. it cracks open. it shatters. the same fear, the same anger, the same despair, seeing it in front of him just as it happened to himself.
