I’m in a bad mood. :) (#1)
I can’t help but think that maybe, sometimes that Dick just stands in front of Jason’s memorial and think that it’s his fault. He didn’t answer when his little wing needed him, he didn’t know what is was like to die(yet) and Bruce, who’s just lost his son, wasn’t helping with that guilt and Dick couldn’t blame him.
If only his little brother would leave him alone, he followed him everywhere- at first he took it as a chance to apologize but he just didn’t leave and most times he’d just randomly stay and go but his little wing was always a wanderer at heart and hearing those giggles again just made him so happy and that cheerful smile whenever he got back from patrol or work that was waiting for him on his couch.
He knew it wasn’t healthy for him to latch onto little Jason but he decided that could go to hell when he first saw that shiny and full of teeth grin again, when he froze just hearing that giggling again. His little wing became part of his routine, sometimes when Dick couldn’t get out of bed because he felt so horrible, he’d just look to the side, smile and see Jason telling him to get up. Just like he did when he was alive..
Grief was sometimes Dick was familiar with and used to, so why was seeing him such a terrible thing in the eyes of other people? His dad would never judge him for it and neither would Babs(she’d be concerned but that was just what Babs did!) but seeing his little wing suddenly so grown up was something different, don’t get him wrong he’s tried to see what Jason would look like all grown up and out of the nest but to see his little brother’s face so suddenly and less blurry than before was something Dick could get used to.
Even if he still heard those cheery giggles sometimes..
