The two boys approach your table and your eyes immediately zero in on the shorter one. You smile as he takes the seat across from you.
"I thought Ajax was gonna be with you guys?" Columbina asks, mid-chew into her pudding.
Aether takes his seat beside Scara. "No, he told me he and Lohen were gonna go challenge Varka into an arm wrestling match."
At the mention of Lohen, Sandrone and Columbina both briefly glanced at your direction. You were about to say something when you feel a soft kick from under the table.
You glance at Scara and notice he was leaning forward slightly, his arm seeming to be extended underneath the table as his eyes subtly gesture for you to humor him and look down. You simply roll your eyes in amusement and played along as you extend your hand underneath to reach for his, never breaking eye contact.
You feel warm as you felt his fingers brush against yours that you almost didn't register the feel of him placing something small, flat, and plastic into your palm. You took it from him and looked down.
You looked back up at him only to see a finger raised to his lips as if to silence you and then further pointed at his phone.
You look back down at your palm, and then back up at him again.
"What are you two doing?"
As she stood up to gather her things, Sandrone shot you two a suspicious glare that drew the attention of both Aether and Columbina towards you.
"Nothing." You two answer in unison as you carefully slide the card into your pocket.
Your attempt to deflect seems to serve futile as Sandrone's eyes followed the movement of your hand tucking the card into your pocket. She must have been in a good mood today, merely huffing and letting it slide. Had she actually seen the card, she would have certainly tried to buy it off you.
"Whatever. Columbina, let's go." Sandrone walked off towards the exit of the cafeteria.
"I'll see you guys later!" Columbina smiles, waving as she followed suit.
Aether had decided to linger a while longer, while Kuni offered to walk you to your Biochemistry class.
Although he was physically beside you, literally close enough that your shoulders are almost brushing, it seems as if his attention was glued to his phone.
"Thank you, by the way, for the card. I appreciate it." You broke the silence.
"It was nothing." He shrugs, eyes still on the screen. And that was all you got.
You reached your classroom and he glanced up long enough to wave. You wave back and he's already looking back down on his phone with the hint of a smile on his face. Weird.
