I'm currently only just starting my transition after more than a decade of running from it. If you'd asked me a decade ago which contemporary tabletop RPG was most likely to do the AD&D-versus-BD&D "two versions of the same game being published simultaneously, one of which is ostensibly a stripped down version of the other, but in practice they're really two separate forks of the same core system that fundamentally disagree with each other about what kind of game that system should be" thing, I definitely wouldn't have guessed "Exalted", but in retrospect it seems almost inevitable.

In brief, there are currently two separate versions of Exalted in active publication: Exalted 3rd Edition, and Exalted: Essence. The latter's marketing kind of positions it as a lightweight or introductory version of the former, but in practice the two are just totally incompatible visions of what the game is supposed to be, and familiarity with one isn't necessarily transferable to the other. They even disagree with one another on the level of basic setting worldbuilding that has no implications for the game mechanics, which is actually kind of remarkable.

Theres also 2 hour video essay analyzing Snape wives as a new religious movement that draws on the history of Christian mysticism, midrashs, and idea of what unifies religion as a concept. Why do you think Harry Potter fanfic has lead to so many movements like them and the Zizians?

Harry potter fanfiction itself didn't lead to anything. If Harry potter wasn't around, these groups would use some other popular media property. They wrapped these things in Harry Potter aesthetics because for nearly a decade it was one of the most popular pieces of media on earth. I also generally don't like to focus on whatever pop-culture thing is wrapped around these groups. It distracts from more meaningful discussion. It also leads to people comparing Snapewives and Zizians in ways that are not necessarily useful or material.

A lot of people cover groups like these from the angle of internet anthropology, or public interest journalism. This isn't inherently bad, people have done it well, but inarticulate discussion can lend itself to sneering internet freak-show behavior. Or more commonly, relegating the topic to an incurious fun fact.

Had a small chat with my favourite prof because I walked by his office and saw him there but then a whole ass mouse scurried along the floor.

I have no clue how a mouse would get there. What does it eat? There aren't even any fucking books around, let alone actual food. It's just metal and rubber from the cables.
