"Growing Around Grief"
Lois Tonkin, 1996
The beautiful thing as you get older is that you realize so many “rules” are made up and you can just do whatever. Posters can go anywhere in the house not just my room. I can sit down while cooking a meal or taking a shower. I can make the same thing for breakfast lunch dinner for a week straight. I can roam around the house shirtless. I can wear a dress with jeans. The world is my oyster key word my and I can live as I please embracing little things such as this
it's always being a yearner and never someone yearning for me
New Years resolutions: do whatever i want forever
The time will pass anyways
as a girl who is literally just a girl i am always yearning. always longing always missing always wearing my heart on my sleeve. always feeling like my heart is on the verge of exploding. the sight of the sun makes me cry. anyway
scared someone will see right through me and know one of my deepest desires is to be taken care of
learning lately that a lot of confidence is about owning up. like "yeah i'm a little addicted to my phone right now" or "yeah i'm not really over this person yet" or "yeah i still get pretty anxious in crowds" just saying anything at all but then following it up w "but i'm trying to get better" and being super nonchalant and unaffected. so powerful. you would literally be undefeatable in the face of even the most judgmental person. no one can judge you for things you already know about yourself and are trying to improve on. the trick is to know yourself from the inside out, to hold yourself accountable, and to actively improve every day. like that is literally the secret to never feeling like you're at the mercy of somebody else's judgment
it's like if you were talking to a friend and they went "you're too sensitive" and then your whole day is ruined because you're like?? no i'm not??? and then you get defensive and start questioning something you never knew about yourself, bc you never dug that deep into your identity. i've been there. but now i'm trying to not only confront the ugliest parts of me, but also own up to them instead of concealing myself and trying to be something i'm not. it's completely fine to not be perfect but to try to be the best you could possibly be. anyone who claims perfection is lying. just own up to ur shit
don’t want to be a girl i want to be a single star in the night sky shining so bright all the way to lonely people who look up and hope to see a sign
my holy trinity: me, my coffee, and my playlist
i was born to be a girl who is so in love with everything and yet so incredibly afraid of everything at the same time
This
i don’t know if they told u this but life is just trying to be the best person u can be again & again & again
To this day people will cry over the knowledge and works destroyed when the library of Alexandria was burned down.
And yet no tears are shed as Palestinian archives and libraries are bombed.
Saint Porphyrius Church, built in 1150 and the 3rd oldest church in the world has been bombed.
It's not an accident.
Israel aren't simply killing Palestinians, they are trying to erase that there ever were Palestinians in the first place.
Destroying their livelihoods, trying to to destroy their culture and history and pretend this land was never there's.
It's easy to deny someone's existence when there's no record of them.
Which is why it's so important to look at the atrocities and bear witness to what's happening.
But to also recognise that Palestine is more than it's suffering.
There is a living breathing culture, of art, history, literacy which all come from the Palestinians.
Traditions they've carried for centuries.
So while we mourn the dead, we shall fight for the living. Fight for the preservation of their crafts, amplify their voices as they speak on their culture.
Palestinian history and culture is alive. And no matter how much the world wants to erase that, they cannot and will not.
you can start learning anything you always wanted at any point in your life. & how nice it is to remember that
