the way ivan aivazovsky looks at the seaâŠi thinkâŠi think thatâs what love looks like.
love is surrounding yourself with people who see you this clearly
Still the freakiest fact about him is that despite being as tall as a person or more, he banged out these beauties in a day or two at most (and smaller ones ina matter of hours). The longest he spent on a painting, at age 81, to make his largest ever painting, was TEN DAYS:
It is 2.9Ă4.3 meters large. Thatâs 9'4"Ă14'1" for people in other measurement systems. Itâs HUGE. There are artists out there that spend years on paintings much smaller than this. He was not one of them.
He also didnât only paint the sea, but he MOSTLY painted the sea. Very few people could draw light filtering through waves the way this guy did and apparently it was tied into his layering technique that allowed him to paint so goddamn fast.
He is obviously my most favorite painter ever.
!!!
âStill the freakiest fact about him is that despite being as tall as a person or more,â
Initially I didnât realise this referred to the size of the paintings and briefly thought Ivan Aivazovsky was âas tall as a person or moreâ and imagined a freakishly tall Slavic artist lovingly painting the enchanting play of light and colour on the sea
blowing a kiss to all the disabled people who cant work and a kiss to all the disabled people who shouldnt be working but have to because of their circumstances and a kiss to disabled people who have never and will never work and a kiss to the disabled people who dont want to work your worth is not measured by your productivity ily
when i wrote this post i was still working but i cant anymore because of my disability. i have no idea when ill be able to go back, if i can go back.
so im blowing a kiss to all the disabled quitters and a kiss to all the disabled people who were fired and a kiss to all the disabled drop-outs and a kiss to all the disabled failures and a kiss to all the disabled peole who are mourning the life and body and career and future you used to have. a kiss to you, and to your grief. <3
Saw someone argue that opposing AI art is ableist because this is the only way for some disabled people to make art afjagjsfh. Disabled people have been making art since the dawn of time and because making art is so varied there will always be tons of ways to create despite disability that doesnât involve ripping artists off by using AI art
Disabled people are honestly so brave for not killing annoying ppl every day I swear to god the disrespect
#frida kahlo didnt paint exclusively from her bed for months while in extreme chronic pain from several injuries #for 'ai is the only way for disabled people to make art' to be an argument #TELL THAT TO MATISSE #Christy Browne #GOYA #beethoven was DEAF and still wrote music #a whole host of artists in the 80s continued creating while actively dying of AIDS #how dare people make this argument istg (via @morethanonepage)
Joni Eareckson Tada has been paralyzed from the neck down since she was 17
Sarah Biffin was a Victorian-era painter of miniature portraits who was born without arms or legs. She taught herself to write, sew, and paint using her mouth (like Joni), and was pretty damn successful for herself as she was even commissioned by the royal family. Here's a self-portrait she did:
In my opinion, someone generating AI art is a curator, not an artist. The art is being produced by an AI, and a human selects what creations they want to show to others. As a disabled artist myself, its really fucking rude to act like disabled people can't create anything new ourselves, as if we don't have anything of our own to add to the world.
Also many of the artists you love are disabled, because making art is one of the only ways they can make money. Our society doesn't support the disabled and if I had the energy I would fucking revolt.
âAI art isnât real artâ boring, pedantic, relies on defining the undefinable and an ever changing goalpost of what Real Art is.
âAI art is fueled by massive art theftâ correct, concrete demonstration of the harm itâs doing to actual human beings and not just the nebulous concept of Art Itself.
Here's a look at my work from our final exhibit of the year. I'm so proud of everything I've accomplished so far, and can't wait to take more photos over the summer!
The final set of blog photos from this year.
