I think an important part of ntt Raven that’s often forgotten in pretty much all subsequent versions is the specifics of her relationship with Trigon. Trigon stories is all she gets nowadays, but they’ve also been very watered down and are usually pretty badly told.
I think the part that’s often overlooked is Trigon isn’t just tormenting her because he feels like it, he does genuinely want her to rule beside him. He does care about her to some extent because he wants to use her. Personally, I think this is way more interesting than him just wanting to use her to conquer Earth and then not care if she lives or dies (or actively trying to kill her).
After Raven’s death at the hands of the Titans in the Terror of Trigon arc, he seems to be mourning her and argues with Arella when she says he never cared about her.
He seems to view her life as having a value that he doesn’t assign to anyone else, because he sees her as being somewhat of equal status to himself.
He even goes out of his way to make sure she won’t die during his invasion of Earth.
Don’t get me wrong, he’s still an awful father who only cares about Raven for his own selfish reasons (and probably doesn’t see her truly as a person and more as an extension of himself or a possession), but there’s more to their relationship than him just wanting to use her to conquer Earth. This version is personally much more compelling to me. Raven isn’t fighting him to save her own life, but because she cares so deeply about other people and Earth. Her struggle is much harder when she’s fighting against becoming like Trigon instead of just becoming his vessel.
I think this aspect of her has been lost in a lot of modern comics. I hope it’ll be brought back, or at least there will be some good fics about it.
