Listen most of these guys sucked. They were out here saying "our cause is Rightous" happily ignoring that George Washington went out extreme lengths to keep slaves, used slaves' bones in his teeth, that women couldn't hold jobs, that they spent a lot of time murdering native peoples.

Some children are constantly reminded "you're the child, I'm the adult" in order to deny their autonomy. Their youth rights activism would involve treating them like an adult at times when they feel ready for it.

Some children are treated like adults in order to justify increased expectations or to downplay abuse against them. Their youth rights activism would involve allowing them to be a child.

There is no one-size-fits-all solution to oppression. Each individual person's experience is different. Whatever trauma is caused by their oppression, the activism should focus on undoing it.

Why So Many People Are Going “No Contact” with Their Parents

A growing movement wants to destigmatize severing ties. Is it a much-needed corrective, or a worrisome change in family relations?

For the record: we are 100% in favor of going no contact with toxic or abusive family members. This article is a little frustrating to read.

it’s funny because the writer at no point questions the parents. they say, id do ANYTHING for that not to happen. would you get vaccinated? would you acknowledge the hurt you caused? would you go to therapy (and actually work on it)? because when children actually get to the point of going no contact, they usually HAVE tried a lot of stuff. they tried not mentioning touchy subjects, they tried calm conversations, they tried hiding parts of themselves as to not trigger them. but at some point you start living a half life, trying to fit into a place that ultimately does not want you, the REAL you, in it. those parents they don’t mourn the loss of the relationship with the real children they have — they miss the children that would stay quiet, that would not have opinions, that was just a prop in their lives.

in my experience, parents use this “i’d do anything” as a cop out. they say: i’d die for you. but they are not able to change for you.
