these get reposted a whole lot from here to reddit to twitter to tiktok and on and on, and i don't personally care whether or not i'm credited. i made these for everyone to use, enjoy, and find meaning in them. i appreciate folks who do credit me, but if able, please at least link to the threadless shop in the previous post - folks can get an official shirt where 90% of earnings go to trans led orgs focused on mental health (which is an important matter in general, but very personal to me) and not from a scam bot site selling AI-churned maga garbage where you probably won't get one anyway. i also suggest downloading the files from my ko-fi - they are free/PWYW and you can use them to make your own shirt, patch, embroidery project, whatever. tips are always nice, cuz i do like a pizza now and then, but never required for download.
final thought - breaking the pride tradition and more than likely won't make a new piece. the top one from TDOV is all i'm making this year. i have my focus on other projects currently and i don't want to force a poster design. these came from a specific head space and my current head space is Very Tired lmao so i wanna work on other things. đź‘Ť

In fact he's not even a mechanic, so consider scrapping that headcanon unless you wanna give him a whole different backstory!
Iron Lung spoilers under the read more but I bring some evidence
In the movie, Simon's first moment in the submarine (SM-13) involve him looking over the control console, and then going through some folios available to him. The very first one he picks, one with quite a few pages, is an instruction manual for operating the sub.
He looks at the cover for a whole two seconds before giving up. He doesn't even bother.

The only instruction he does bother with, is the next folio with One Page on it, and all it depicts is the panel at the back of the sub, and a single arrow going "CAMERA". He verifies it works and gets to piloting the sub. The controls are pretty simple, he just rawdogs it.
Later on when the sub's engine has gone offline due to some, err, rough ridin', he finds a crawl space under the floor of the sub and goes down to find some way to revive the engine. When he finds only the black box mechanism (at first), he gives us a lovely piece of his mind.
Not that we needed more proof that him and technical shit don't go together, but there you are. He went down there without even knowing if there would be anything to help or fix the issue. Dumbass extraordinaire <3
Now you may think, oh so he doesn't do hardware but he can do software! Wrooong, he cannot. Later in the movie the computer console is activated and is attempting to download files but the clearances have been rescinded, Simon can't access anything. This is what he tries.
He tries "HELLO" first, yes, and when the other three attempts that aren't even basic console commands fail, he tries asking nicely.
So nah, this man doesn't know much about machines or systems besides some very surface level stuff. He's very capable of learning in a pinch, but if he has a choice then he would very much rather not.
I feel like so many Bloodymary fans are basing this idea on one fanfic thing that spiraled out of control
So many people admitted like the ship but not watching iron lung (some neither movie all together which js fucking crazy idk how you do that)
Iron Lung is a very confusing movie. It doesn’t tell you the whole story right there in front of your eyes. You gotta look for the details. Simon was a “butcher” said plainly in text. More specifically, you can take that as him being some sort of muscle or solider.
Idk how people who DID watch iron lung look at the way Simon went about the sm-13 and thought he must be an engineer. No he’s just fucked up and scrappy. He doesn’t know shit.
"ooouu ouu whats even the point of the harness" whats the point of framing a painting ? Of plating a dish? The harness is there to make you salivate like a dog.
So basically both Ava and Simon have been isekaied into the Hail Mary. They both arrive at the same obvious conclusion: Captain Dr. Ryland Grace is the leader of a very wealthy, independent, self sustaining ship likely apart of some secret government operation from before the quiet rapture. This is only further proven by the existence of his small alien engineer and large alien biologist.
They believe that Grace only has enough resources for one of them to stay (They have no reason to believe other then heavy trauma). So while both are stuck in quarantine, they try to show Grace how eager they are to work and subtlety put the other down.
Unfortunately Grace is a dumbass who hasn't interacted with people in nearly a full decade at this point. So they are completely oblivious to this competition and are just so happy to have such cool and dedicated new friends.
Ava: Dr. Grace if you have any jobs you would like me to do please let me know.
Simon: Doctor, Ava needs her rest and couldn't possibly work with some of her injuries, I'm fine please allow me to help you with anything you want.
Ava: Don't be modest Con-Simon, your injuries were much worse than mine when we arrived, I insist that I help in some way.
Simon: Yes but I have healed much faster than you and can do more than you right now

I feel like a BIG MISSED opportunity in the Bloodymary fandom is when Simon wakes up on the Hail Mary, having him ask about the black box. Because to him, it’s his last good deed for the rest of Eden and the COI. “It’s bigger than me.”
We also don’t talk about him saying “take care of it mom. It’s bigger than me……it’s bigger than me.” either.

rewatched iron lung last night and I don't think the bloodymary fandom realizes how much of his fear response is FREEZE during the time we see him
