Summer 2018 Anime Rating and Reviews
I’m a bit late with this list but finally, here it is. We had so many good animes this season, so expect more than just 10 on this list.
The Most Badass, My rating: 9/10
I guess whenever there’s a new Overlord season, it’s going to the top of my list! Another amazing season with epic battles and amazing characters.
The Funniest, My rating: 9/10
I laughed WAY too much watching this anime! Everything is hilarious, from the jokes to the art style and characters and plot. Looking at the poster, it seems like a normal fun anime about diving! But it’s really about everything EXCEPT diving! I’m not joking. If you want an anime about diving, this is probably not the best choice. I think only a couple of last episodes get more into the actual sport. It’s such a peculiar anime, sometimes even gets bizarre but still in a really hilarious way.
3. Shingeki no Kyojin/Attack on Titan Season 3
The Most Anticipated, My rating: 8.5/10
I have to admit, I’m a bit biased when it comes to this anime because I’ve read the manga and then dropped it at some point because I lost interest! This season gave us a lot of moments from the manga we were waiting for but also a lot of important details, especially regarding the characters were either ignored or skipped. Still, it was a good season and with good animation. So glad I finally got to see Levi vs Kenny’s fight and Kenny himself animated. He was one of my favorites.
The Darkest, My rating: 8.5/10
Well, I wouldn’t call Banana Fish a really dark anime because it’s not brutally honest in depiction like some other stories. They kept the blood and gore to the minimum and a lot of the actual dark stuff is only briefly mentioned or implied, which is expected of a shoujo; and still, for a shoujo anime, it is pretty dark and serious. The plot is really good, intriguing and anticipating and the characters are multi-dimensional and well-written. It’s a serious anime and they didn’t go overboard with fanservice which is probably another strong aspect of this series. Despite it being shoujo I think a lot of demographics can actually enjoy it. Definitely recommended.
5. Chio-chan no Tsuugakuro/Chio’s School Road
Second Funniest, My rating: 8/10
Another anime that really made me laugh. Chio, the main character is also a gamer and it’s pretty interesting and funny to see how that affects her everyday life. She wants to be average and not stand out, yet all sorts of problems happen on her way to school. The anime has a lot of fanservice though, so if that’s something that bothers you, you probably shouldn’t watch this.
6. Angolmois: Genkou Kassenki/Angolmois: Record of Mongol Invasion
The Most Epic, My rating: 8/10
This is a historical anime about the Mongol invasion of Japan. It’s beautifully depicted and I personally found the ending really beautiful. If you’re into Feudal Japan/Historical animes with samurais and also enjoy some tragedy, this is definitely recommended.
7. Hataraku Saibou/Cells at Work
The Most Creative, My rating: 8/10
I don’t think there’s anyone who hasn’t heard about this anime at this point. As I said, VERY creative. At the same time, it’s also medical and educational and informative about the human body’s functions and such. One problem I have with it is the long written introductions and explanations for each character in each episode. I don’t speak Japanese so it’s not very fun to pause the anime like 10 times each episode, just to read. But I don’t consider it a flaw either.
Bonus: If you enjoyed this anime even slightly, I suggest watching it with a doctor! And there’s one on youtube that has actually reviewed 3 episodes of this anime so far:

He explains why some characters have certain designs, and explains the analogies used in the anime and it really is fascinating because you realize how much effort has been actually put into this anime! A lot more than you think!
8. Isekai Maou to Shoukan Shoujo Dorei Majutsu/How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord
The Most Typical (yet good!), My rating: 7.5/10
This is exactly what it looks like! Another typical isekai harem anime, though I can’t help but love them. This one especially is pretty hilarious so if you need a good laugh, I highly recommend this anime. Third funniest anime on this list.
The Most Nostalgic, My rating: 7.5/10
This could easily be ‘the cutest’ on my list but I really have to go with nostalgic because if you’re in your mid 20′s or older and you used to be into gaming around the 90s like me, you are going to love this! I remember going to the arcades to play games and when the first gaming consoles started to get released and this is basically what this anime is about and more! Though I should mention it has CG Animation because I know a lot of people don’t like that.
10. Satsuriku no Tenshi/Angels of Death
The Most Mysterious, My rating: 7/10
I said mysterious to make it sound cool but to be honest… it’s rather a confusing anime! It starts pretty dark and cool and mysterious which I loved and you expect it to make more sense as you keep watching but… it kinda doesn’t! And the ending leaves you with a giant, vague cliffhanger. I still enjoyed it, liked the characters and atmosphere and I’m looking forward to more seasons, maybe my questions will be answered.
The Most Gothic!, My rating: 7/10
I must say, for a vampire anime, it’s not bad. Which is why it gets a 7 from me, however, it’s still pretty generic and typical. Same old ‘vampires vs hunters’ story with a bit of a twist but not much creativity. Still, if you’re into vampire stories or gothic stuff, this is not a bad work but it doesn’t make it to the top 10.
The Most Violent, My rating: 6/10
Violent! There’s really no other words to describe this anime. It’s just pure violence, gore and blood, and fights. The art style is not pretty! In fact, I feel like they keep it as ugly as possible to make it even more intimidating. It’s not a bad anime if you like ‘cool’ and bloody and gory, or tournaments, though it doesn’t have a very unique plot either and the characters are all basically just psychopaths!
