I will not let you wage a war on my city.

gang what are some of your arrowverse crack friendships. i want cisco and nyssa to be friends so bad. in my heart black siren and patty spivot are important to each other. i think alex danvers and alice would be a really entertaining duo and be on the verge of killing each other most of the time. tell me of your dreams
LAUREL LANCE in arrow 3x23
y’all ever see a piece of fan content about your favorite character that is so horrifically different from what you personally believe and you just
This isn't very hard when you know some of the most genius strategies in human history were incredibly stupid, circumstantial events that led to victory by sheer luck of that strategy working.
Case in point: Tsun Zu's rival defended a city with 10 men against Tsun's army of hundreds by disarming his own soldiers, dressing them in plain clothes, INVITING Tsun's army to come in, and it only worked because Tsun knew the guy was an ambush master and thought "if we attack the city he's inviting us into, we will die." and left without even trying ON THE BASIS OF HIS RIVAL'S REPUTATION AND NOTHING MORE
Another example: Tsun Zu, on being told his soliders were out of arrows during a battle against a city across a river from them, had his men craft scarecrows, put them on a boat, send it out on a line, leave it there for half an hour, then pull it back in and used the arrows the enemy had fired at the boat to restock their own ammunition. It only worked because it was foggy and the enemy couldn't tell the difference between the scarecrows and actual soldiers.
Stupid things like that work INCREDIBLY WELL if the circumstances favor them, so you really don't need to come up with some multi-layered, Shikamaru-esque strategy. You just need to come up with a strategy you like for the characters involved, then write the circumstances (weather, environment, individuals involved) to favor it enough that it works.
Writing a detective\crime story with two characters who ended up never showing that side of themselves too often has made this my daily problem.
Look at Katie's neck. THAT is the neck of a trained martial artist. We should have gotten a proper Black Canary run, instead of.....whatever the fuck the bullshit we got was.

I'm cheating and doing a wee snippet because I can do what I want and I liked this exchange.
He reached up to snatch at her wrist. “Stay,” he murmured, eyes searching her face. Don’t leave me alone next to him, she knew he was asking. Abby shook her head. “Go introduce Daeron around. We can’t sit up here all night.” He rolled his eyes and Abby tutted. “Or go rescue Helaena.” Aegon glanced down at the miserable end of the table and they spied Gwayne having come up, a hand braced on Aemond’s shoulder as he spoke to Larys and his father. “I’m surprised Aemond hasn’t stabbed him yet,” Aegon muttered and gave a nod. “Is this to be our duty now, my lady?” Abby scrunched her face up in amusement and took his offered hand to rise from her chair. “Aye, it shall be, my lord. Save me a dance.” He pressed a kiss to her knuckles and they parted, Aegon going to join his uncle and siblings at the end of the table. She tilted her head, admiring him as he walked from her before turning and reaching for Baela. “Come, Princess. I have people to introduce you to.”

Cheers, @unusual-raccoon! This is the most recent line in my new Jonerys WIP that I have been working on and off for a while:
Ned frowned, “Nay. Aerys… he committed the crimes. You did not. As for Rhaegar?” Eddard sighed, as he looked at Rhaella, “I suspect Lyanna was just as culpable as him." Brandon, like Lya, had wolf's blood, they were impulsive.

this is such incredible advice for creating any kind of art i have to put it over here to remind myself
And this goes for writing too.
There are stories that only you are qualified to tell best: that only you are able to tell. You are uniquely positioned in spacetime to do this job because of your life detail, your upbringing, your reading, your thinking. No one else can tell your stories just the way you do, no matter how good a writer they might be.
And inside you somewhere are characters desperate for your attention; desperate for your intention and your work to breathe life into them. They need your voice raised to tell their stories. No one else can do it. You are their only hope.
Waste no more time worrying about whether your take on their stories will be good enough. You have more important things to be thinking about. So go get on with it. :)
A writer gets a little angry......
So, if you had to ask me (Lauriver fiction writer) what is the one fucking thing I wish we got from the actual Arrowverse that we didn't get it would be this: A Dinah Laurel Lance who is, outside of a couple of people who are only spoken of as phantoms and legend, the unquestioned best hand-to-hand fighter in the Arrowverse. Not someone who's good for the time they gave her in the role, or better than we remember with time, but spectacular from her first day in the suit to her last day in the suit. Would this be too much to ask? I certainly don't think so.
Now, I understand the issues with this. For one, that level of skill on screen requires choreographers and stunt people on par with the Golden Age of Hong Kong Cinema for a CW budget. Could this be done? Probably not. But I would have loved to see them try. LOVED to see them try.
Dear Gail Simone i hope you are having a good year. But i have a question about the Canary Cry that bug me a bit. In your run, you upgrade´s Black Canary skills but you didnt do anything to her Canary Cry and she doesnt use it as regular thing. I know Canary prefers to use her skills than her power to fight crime. Is there a reason for that?
In my opinion, it was always about who she was fighting. Let me explain.
To me, she was a fighter at heart and a meta-human by accident. Martial arts was her passion, her drive, it was what she dedicated her life to, the Canary Cry, while cool, was just a thing she was given. Imagine being Muhammed Ali, but you also just happen to have a rocket launcher. You’re not going to take the rocket launcher to fight George Foreman. You’re going to box.
Some people write the Canary Cry as a quaint little power that makes people hold their hands over their ears. But in my run, I said it could do Wonder Woman some real damage if she wasn’t prepared. It’s not a firecracker, it’s a bundle of dynamite. Dinah would prefer never to use that against some guy in a gi.
When Canary fights some guy who is good at martial arts, she wants to fight on fair ground, and she doesn’t want to obliterate them off the map. So the Cry is a last resort, unless she’s going up against Amazo or something, then she’s happy to come out with the cry at full power. Does that make sense?
Hey. it's Gail Simone explaining why she doesn't have BC use her cry except when absolutely necessary, and it's the same reason I had. This is nice.
laurel, i’m sorry.
Society seems to forget that men are also people with feelings. They are not monsters who only want sex and constantly being negative towards them will take a toll on their mental health.
Never a bad time to reblog this. Tired of people making blanket statements like “Men ain’t shit” and thinking it’s perfectly okay.
As an ao3 writer just wanted to say that every time someone leaves a comment on my fic it makes my day. Like I know a lot of authors may not reply but trust me we love and treasure every single one of them and even reread them occasionally. So if you liked a fic just leave a comment it costs nothing and continues to motivate us to write
THIS. My work tends to not get a ton of comments, and every single one of them is utterly treasured.
