Hello, friends! Today I am unleashing what I'm going to call Wednesday Morning Cartoons, where every Wednesday I draw and release a cartoon to you.  This is a way of keeping me accountable for making art, and also as a way to chronicle the adventures of Pare-bear (Me), Peter-dee (Petry), and Mama Natz (Who will be introduced later in the series).   Today you get the character introductions of Pare-bear and Peter-dee!! <3

Hi Im Maizie !

Im a 19 year old trans girl, and in early January I was kicked out of my home, by my abusive family. For my mental health, this change was quite positive, however I have no support from my family when it comes to medications, appointment costs, or even food. My dad is also unwilling to give me the information for my health insurance. For this reason I have very little to afford appointments and medication for my transition. I am currently on spironolactone, a testosterone blocker, and have been for about one and a half (1 ½) months. I have upcoming appointments with a GP for hormone treatment, and plan to funnel money towards this cost and others like it. Subsequent costs for hormone medication will also be payed for through this. Unfortunately it is likely that I will also need to direct a portion of these funds towards basic living costs such as food and rent. Thank you so much for your time and generosity.

If there’s anyway you could donate that would mean the world to me, and if not if you could simply share this it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much and I love you all.

The other day I had my first job interview and it went really poorly on account of my gender presentation and I doubt I’m gonna hear back from them. I haven’t seen a lot of posts that shed some positivity for non-binary Muslims who wear the hijab – I personally sometimes feel it’s frustrating that people see hijabi non-binary people as “female” just because the hijab is an obligation for women. My hijab does not define my gender; only my obligation to my God and my religion! 

Shoutout to all non-binary hijabi Muslims out there; you are valid and Allah loves you, insya-Allah!

Anyone really, but this guide tries to focus on trans, gender nonconforming, intersex, and basically anyone who doesn’t always identify with the gender or sex they were assigned at birth. What if I do identify as the gender or sex I was assigned at birth? You can still apply aspects of this guide to yourself and any partner(s) you may have in your life. Why is this necessary? Since most people have not received adequate comprehensive sex education, especially an education that is inclusive of non-heterosexual or trans identities, we hope this guide will fill that gap.

imo it’s not enough to say “stop whitewashing asian roles” it’s also important to say stop fucking plucking stories out of their eastern origins and repackaging and recontextualizing them for a western audience for money, period. this ghost in the shell movie isn’t just going to be shit because white people are playing the leads, it’s also going to be shit because the script and adaptation and production were all overseen by what i’m sure are overwhelmingly white american filmmakers. the REASON these films are so white is because they want them to feel white, western, etc. and sadly, i think you could pluck out all the leads from this movie and replace them with asian actors and you’d only be fixing the most visible part of the problem.

In honor of World Book Day, I want to tell you about this book, the best queer novel I’ve ever read. 

It’s called Juliet Takes a Breath, it’s written by my dear friend Gabby, and it’s about a Puerto Rican lesbian from the Bronx who’s figuring out identity, relationships, allyship, family, and everything else that happens all at once when you’re coming out. Juliet is the young queer woman of color protagonist that the YA scene desperately needs. Her voice is fresh, funny, thoughtful and authentic. And her story is the book I wish I’d had when I was 16. 

Gabby has lovingly agreed to make a video with me to talk about Juliet, and I’ll also be doing a giveaway of the book (maybe even signed copies!), so be on the lookout for both of those in the next month. In the meantime, buy the book, follow Gabby on Twitter and Tumblr, and support queer writers of color who are making the world better one book at a time. Happy World Book Day!
